ith the new year in full swing and Easter just around the corner, this is a popular time for proposals. After the uncertainty of 2020, spring is almost upon us bringing with it the milder temperatures, lighter evenings and green shoots. Plenty of you might be planning to marry this year having been locked down with your loved one and realising that you don’t want to be apart from them so this new-season issue is crammed full of real-life wedding inspiration, expert advice from local suppliers, big-day beauty and beautiful bridal fashion including Carrie Bradshaw-inspired shoes, my favourite things! Even though I’m not personally getting married, I would download this issue purely for the swoon-worthy selection of shoe candy so there’s something inside for everyone! If like me, you can’t wait to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day (which falls on my birthday this year) then check out www.yourdevoncornwall.wedding and our social channels for great gift ideas, mother-of-the-bride fashion and fabulous florals to thank her for everything that she does. Wishing you all a chocolate (and shoe-filled) Easter and I’ll see you next issue!

Another not-to-be-missed photo opportunity is by the two cannons positioned at the front of the house. Ceremonies take place in a variety of areas. The Pellew Suite is two adjoining rooms that can be used separately or together. It’s located next to the veranda overlooking the orangery holding up to 70 guests (when restrictions lift). A more intimate gathering of up to 36 loved ones can take place in the Mayor’s Parlour located at the front of the house, and the Orangery, brimming with exotic plants, can hold up to eight people. The wedding breakfast and reception take place for up to 70 loved ones in the Pellew Suite that boasts a dancefloor and couples can hire an outside caterer, mobile bar and band. na and Stephen met at university in York. “We started talking online and then went on our first date which was a walk around the castle walls in the city centre," Stephen tells us. "We met up again the following day so it went well! Even my pasty addiction wasn't enough to put Ana off!" The couple became engaged during a trip to Cornwall. “We both love this part of the world and had enjoyed holidays there since we were children so this was the natural choice of location for me to propose in,” Stephen tells us. “We had spent the morning at Dairyland Farm Park with our nephew (Ana had also secretly wanted to go!) and I had organised a surprise for her when we got back to the cottage where we were staying. It had a hot tub overlooking St Michael's Mount so I had asked mum and dad to leave out a bottle of champagne, chocolates and strawberries for us. After countless guesses as to when it was going to happen, she was completely surprised when it did!”
“Because Ana was around 20 minutes late, I did begin to question whether or not she had changed her mind!” — Stephen SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose the Harbour St Ives hotel and spa as their venue because St Ives is their favourite place to visit in Cornwall. “The hotel overlooks the bay and the view is so beautiful, even when the weather isn’t great!” Stephen says. “We hadn’t planned on having a large wedding before the Government restrictions were imposed, we were originally inviting 50 loved ones, so the property was perfect for us because the rooms were the ideal size to fit our 15 guests and we liked the layout.” The couple's beach theme meant that Stephen could wear shorts, even in October! All of their details followed this theme. “We had white cotton bunting, hearts made from driftwood placed on the tables, glass lanterns lining the aisle and a fantastic cake topped with edible sand and Cornish crabs!” Stephen describes. “To transport us both to the chapel for our blessing after the ceremony, my parents had booked us a VW Campervan because we both love them.”
“The biggest thing that stood out for us both was that, despite all the setbacks, our friends and family still made the day feel very special and almost like it had been planned this way from the start. It was perfect and, looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing about it.” — Stephen

LOOKING THE PART Ana chose an ivory satin A-line gown with a full skirt teamed with a sparkly overskirt and a belt which she wore with a pair of Jenny Packham shoes. “I kept my hair simple and added a few sprigs of gypsophila to match both my bouquet and the bridesmaids' posies,” Ana tells us. “Our bridesmaids wore matching blue multi-way dresses teamed with sparkly sandals and matching clutch bags.” Stephen wore a pair of pale blue shorts teamed with a white cotton shirt and grey jacket and his groomsmen had matching outfits finished with white leather Converse trainers. "Even our pageboys wore a little pair of shorts and trainers to match!" Ana describes
“Hannah and Melody who did Ana’s make-up and hair both made her feel so special on the morning of our wedding.” — Stephen TIME TO CELEBRATE “Because of the restrictions, our day was a little different to what we had originally planned!” Stephen tells us. “We were unable to have a typical reception after the blessing, due to the restrictions, so instead we paid for our guests to enjoy a meal at the hotel in the evening. We did manage to sneak some glasses of bubbly down to Porthgwidden beach along with some chips where the children were kept entertained with building sandcastles and paddling in the water!”
“Our photographer, Grant, made us feel so comfortable and at ease for the entire day and his photographs have made our celebration look amazing! He was very calm and understanding when Ana had a minor meltdown and even when I still had shirts to iron about an hour before the ceremony was due to start! All our suppliers made our day feel extra-special." — Stephen

aura and Samuel met at high school where they were in the same year group, although it wasn’t love at first sight! “Sam was one of the cool kids and he says now that he fancied me back then but he is being polite!” Laura tells us. “Things started getting a bit flirty between us when we turned 17 but Sam always had a girlfriend and then we both went off to different universities. We stayed in touch though and when we both moved back to our home town, we started hanging out more and eventually, he asked me out.” The couple became engaged during a surprise proposal at Daymer Bay Beach in North Cornwall. “I had been moaning to Samuel that I thought I would be married before I turned 30 and that if he were to propose, I wouldn’t want it to be on an obvious occasion like Christmas or my birthday. So the night before my 30th birthday, he took me out for a meal and then blindfolded me before getting into a taxi that transported us to the beach where he’d arranged candles, fireworks and a bottle of champagne to greet us on arrival - it was cheesy but it worked!” Here, Laura tells us all about their special day at Cornish Tipi Weddings in St Kew. 33

icole and Kyle met at work. “It was Kyle’s dance moves that attracted me to him!” Nicole tells us. “After clearing a dancefloor in a local club, we found ourselves throwing shapes in sync! We have a similar silly sense of humour and just bounced off one another.” The couple became engaged on their fourth anniversary during a holiday to Mexico. "Kyle had secretly planned the proposal after seeking my parents' approval," Nicole tells us. "He hid the engagement ring in his hand luggage but got stopped at border control both in the UK and Mexico so was worried that I might see it but luckily he managed to keep it under wraps!"
“I arrived at our wedding in my much-loved Subaru Impreza decorated with wedding ribbons.” — Kyle SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose Trebah Gardens as the beautiful backdrop for their wedding after visiting every venue in Falmouth. “We fell in love with it straight away and knew it was the one,” Nicole says. “We both adored the stunning views stretching across the sub-tropical gardens down to the private beach and the fact that none of our guests had attended a wedding there before. We were blessed with glorious weather on the day which was the icing on the cake.” The couple decided on a natural theme to reflect the picturesque grounds at the venue with touches of baby pink. "Our pretty flowers were hand-picked from the gardens and included soft pink varieties," Nicole tells us. "We gave our guests packets of wildflower seeds as favours along with miniature bottles of pink prosecco and pink hand sanitiser as a nod to having to rearrange our wedding due to the pandemic! The intimate ceremony room was decorated in a neutral, contemporary style so we simply added some clear balloons filled with gypsophila to finish the venue decor." The couple opted for a grazing table plus a sweetie ladder for guests to help themselves, followed by a delicious wedding cake presented on two log slices on a wooden crate and finished with flowers. “We decorated the grazing table with hessian runners and the food was presented on slate boards with natural leaf pressed plates and bamboo cutlery for an eco outdoor vibe,” Nicole describes. “We decided on having a grazing table because they look great and offer the same concept as a more traditional buffet. The menu included rustic artisan rolls, a selection of meats and antipasti, tropical fruits, pretzels, fudge, nuts and a Cornish cheese tower because I am a cheese-lover! The Cheese Shed, who supplied it, allows you to select the varieties that you want, and the size, so it's perfect for an intimate wedding.”
“We were both nervous after having to reschedule our wedding once due to the pandemic so were worried that we wouldn’t get the day that we had originally wanted. But we ended up having a better time than we could ever have imagined.” —Nicole 39
LOOKING THE PART Nicole wore an elegant crepe and lace dress featuring an illusion neckline and delicate embroidery on the back. “It was stunning, especially the intricate detail on the sleeves,” Nicole tells us. “I chose this style because the material fitted my hourglass figure in all the right places. It was the first dress that I tried on and I loved it from that moment.” Kyle wore a blue three-piece suit with a white shirt, pale pink floral tie and pocket square and a pair of tan brogues and novelty socks. “Our male bridal party wore the same as Kyle and our two flowergirls looked adorable in their tulle dresses with a statement bow at the back,” Nicole says.
TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple entertained their guests with the solo violinist, Sue Aston, who played a selection of their favourite songs and a few wedding classics. “The sound was incredible as it carried across the garden,” Nicole describes. Because Nicole and Kyle had such great weather on their wedding day, they ended up paddling in the sea with their loved ones at the private beach located at the bottom of the garden. “We went to cool off which was wonderful,” Nicole tells us. “It became my favourite part of the day, especially when we were greeted with visitors on the beach applauding and cheering us on!”
“My favourite memory of the day was seeing Nicole as she walked down the aisle.” — Kyle

EXPERT ADVICE
HOT TOPIC
Our regional experts share their top tips about micro weddings
SMALL YET PERFECTLY FORMED
We’re considering having a micro wedding – can you give us some ideas and advice? Meet the expert: Sarah Chapman is a professional, experienced, independent celebrant helping couples create bespoke ceremonies in a variety of different locations throughout the South West. Sarah says: A wedding is about two people and while it’s great that you’ll be able to have loved ones present to celebrate with you, don’t let worries over who can’t be there spoil the day. With government restrictions currently in place determining the size of weddings, it’s important to think of ways that you can involve guests who should’ve been there celebrating with you. Attending events remotely will be a common occurrence this year so reducing the number of people at your wedding to an intimate number means you’ll be planning what’s known as a micro wedding. They still feature time-honoured traditions that make a wedding special but on a much smaller scale. I believe that the ceremony is at the very heart of the day. Book your legal marriage first at a register office with two witnesses present and then I’ll help you write your vows and readings, finding the right words perfectly suited for you, your family and friends. I encourage my couples to write personal vows, especially when it’s a more intimate wedding. Take the opportunity to share words and promises, surrounded by the people who are closest to you both. Include sentimental details, like wearing your mother’s necklace or having your dog walk down the aisle with you. We will decide where to conduct your wedding somewhere that’s important to you both. This could be on a beach, in woodland, on a clifftop, in a small, boutique hotel or a rustic-inspired barn - the possibilities are endless. Open-air ceremonies are best, to avoid having to share enclosed space so take advantage of the smaller guest list and go somewhere that you couldn’t otherwise! I recommend certain venues in Devon that welcome smaller ceremonies and are experienced in hosting them: ❤ Tree Top Escape in North Devon is tucked away on a private estate offering the most magical setting. ❤ Haldon Belvedere near Exeter is a charming venue with a timeless
feel, home to a spiral staircase. ❤ Harefield Barn is offering couples a new intimate wedding package, The Leveret. ❤ Middle Coombe Farm near Tiverton is the perfect venue for a woodland ceremony. Collect ferns and leaves on the walk down the wooded ‘aisle’ for a personal flower ceremony among the trees. ❤ Kitley House is a historic manor house on a privately-owned estate in Devon’s stunning South Hams, overlooking the tranquil Yealm estuary and a lake. ❤ Bovey Castle boasts stunning landscaped gardens and period architecture that offers the perfect backdrop for wedding photographs. The choice of elegant rooms lends themselves perfectly to small wedding groups. ❤ Brickhouse Vineyard is a newly renovated thatched roundhouse set in a beautiful vineyard, just 20 minutes from Exeter. It’s ideal for a winter wedding with roaring log fires. Why not consider a romantic candlelit ceremony decorated with fairylights? It’s important to hire a professional photographer to capture your day and, if your budget allows, a professional videographer to enable you to share the memories remotely with guests afterwards. Consider inviting them to watch a live-stream through Zoom, WhatsApp or Skype and remember to interact with them throughout the day. Lastly, you can still have fun with the finer details! Commission personalised face coverings that also double as wedding favours. They can be customised with your new married initials and the date and sent to those who are attending remotely. Inform your loved ones who can’t be there about the menu beforehand so that they can prepare and eat the same meal as you from home. Instead of investing in a large wedding cake, order cupcakes for each guest and send boxed ones to those watching from home to arrive on the morning of the wedding. 07870 763 304 | www.celebrationceremoniessouthwest.com 51

Meet the expert: Clare Fortescue runs Boconnoc Cornwall with her sister, Sarah, and mother, Elizabeth. It’s a beautiful country estate located in the South East of the region available for exclusive-use weddings, events and retreats, as well as restorative holidays with guests staying in the main house and on-site cottages. Clare says: Couples are falling in love with the micro wedding trend so reacting to the growing demand for intimate celebrations, Boconnoc Cornwall is now offering wedding packages for between 15 and 30 guests. Our wedding team predict that these special gatherings may be around for some time to come, regardless of lifted restrictions. So many couples have decided to have a more intimate celebration whether or not restrictions are lifted so we think that 2020 made people realise that smaller weddings do have their advantages. Here at Boconnoc Cornwall, we have loved planning our intimate wedding packages over the past six months and have surprised ourselves, and our clients, with the magic that we’re able to create. From starlit tractor-trailer rides around the estate, champagne presented in a marble ice bath in the woods, cosy welcome feasts, intimate firework displays and wine and cheese tastings, these smaller celebrations are very special. Wedding planner Jenny from Jenny Wren events in Cornwall tells us that many couples find that with a larger budget per head, intimate celebrations lend themselves perfectly to bespoke soirees, finished with personal touches. Couples can spend quality time with each guest – perhaps the most compelling reason for the surge in popularity of micro weddings. At Boconnoc Cornwall, our new intimate wedding offering caters for groups of up to 30 people. Guests are treated to a two-night stay with everyone sleeping on-site in the main house and the surrounding cottages. They will experience understated luxury in cosy, stylish bedrooms and couples can plan a full weekend of food and celebrations – and a chance to explore the beaches, woodland and deer park surrounding the estate with their nearest and dearest. There are several choices of locations for the ceremony. For those wanting a church wedding, the stunning 800-year-old on-site church is idyllic. There’s also the option of a civil or humanist ceremony in the main house, the Georgian Bathhouse, the Dorothy Garden or even down on the expansive lawns. Wedding feasts can be set up in the Smoking Room, or, for a more relaxed setting, guests can sit at trestle tables outside by the firepits watching the sunset. After dark, the wedding party can settle in with a nightcap by the fire, or turn up the music and dance under the stars. 01208 872 507 | www.boconnoc.com/weddings 52
Meet the expert: Barny Lee is the owner and managing director at Barny Lee Marquees, a family-run marquee and furniture hire company based in Somerset covering weddings and events across Southern England and Wales. Barny says: Couples set on having a marquee wedding can still do so with a small, intimate gathering. Flexibility in wedding planning has been a buzz word over the past year and something that we are used to, but not quite to the extreme that Covid-19 has shown us! A marquee is a perfect choice if you want to host a small, intimate wedding this summer because they allow the option to add extra space to help accommodate guests. Marquees can fit into a surprisingly small space and are fantastic if you want to have a church or outdoor ceremony followed by a reception at home, or in a field, with the advantage that you can create your timetable for the day, and pick preferred suppliers. The best bit of advice that we can offer is to use the expertise that your chosen marquee hire company has because they’ll have endless experience and can help you realise your dreams. At Barny Lee Marquees, we offer free advice and guidance to all couples who are interested in having a marquee wedding and love helping them navigate their way through their planning journey to create a magical space, no matter how big or small, to celebrate their union. Turn to page 13 to take advantage of our exclusive offer. 01392 590 032 | https://barnyleemarquees.co.uk
EXPERT ADVICE
Images of Brickhouse Vineyard courtesy of www.mimosaphotography.uk
Meet the expert: Joanna Pisko-Szczepura is the owner of Brickhouse Vineyard, a venue designed with small weddings in mind based in Mamhead, Exeter. Joanna says: Small, perfectly formed and individual is how we’d sum up the magic of a micro wedding. We love hosting romantic, personal (and often emotional) intimate affairs. The benefits include a day often filled with a more intense feeling of love and commitment than you sometimes get with the larger celebrations, with every guest present being emotionally invested in the day. As couples feel more confident to make it personal and reflective of their relationship through the vows that they say to each other, this is more often than not reflected in their styling and catering choices. What’s more, small weddings are nimble and can be arranged at relatively short notice, meaning planning is fun and exciting from start to finish and can be kept within budget. Hosting a smaller wedding ceremony and celebration means more freedom for couples to create the day they want. Wedding traditions can be followed or replaced with new ones. Maybe the mother-ofthe-bride is asked to make a speech after dinner, or the bride has the family dog walking down the aisle with her. The meal could be street food-style, reflecting experiences from the couples’ travels, or a gourmet picnic, afternoon tea or a traditional roast dinner. Wow-factor floral arrangements, a statement cake and a great selection of music are all still possible at micro weddings. Some of the most beautiful days in terms of look and feel have been small celebrations because couples spend more on the details because
they have fewer guests to pay for so their budget can stretch further. Brickhouse Vineyard is a very special place for micro weddings. It’s located just 20 minutes from Exeter in idyllic countryside and tranquil woodlands in a magical setting. The thatched Round House has been restored to its former glory and now benefits from a natural bridal aisle leading through the wildflower meadow boasting panoramic views across the vineyard to the rolling hills beyond. It’s a beautiful building that needs very little added in terms of décor yet it provides a blank canvas for couples who wish to make it their own by adding flowers, accessories and props. The barn sat behind the Round House is currently under renovation to provide a dedicated indoor dining space. The team host elopement and intimate weddings for between 2 and 60 people. This can be on a ceremony-only or celebrationonly basis or a combined ceremony and celebration booking. The relatively lower cost of a micro wedding compared with a larger one is an advantage for some couples because they can spend more per head on food and drink and it opens up options that would not be available to larger groups. For example, a group of 15 local chefs can prepare a bespoke seven-course tasting menu using top-quality ingredients accompanied by fine wine. The team can recommend a list of great local wedding suppliers. Finally, another deciding factor is that the season becomes less important with smaller weddings because they’re less weather-reliant. 01626 682 287, www.brickhousevineyard.co.uk 53

MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT
PART Y like it's 2021! Ways to entertain at a micro wedding
CherryTop Weddings located in Truro, Cornwall, has developed a new Covidsecure interactive wedding entertainment experience that can be enjoyed by guests attending as well as friends and relatives watching remotely (It's also ideal for larger celebrations when restrictions lift.) Guests attending in person, and also virtually, will each receive their printed booklet, a Love Story, personalised by the couple. It will contain photographs of the newlyweds and personalised activities chosen by them. These include a quiz to find out how much their guests know about them, wedding speech bingo, word searches, codebreakers, drawing challenges, I Spy games and much more. Couples design their own Love Story booklet using CherryTop Weddings' content management system. There's a range of designs and colourways to choose from that complement all wedding themes and couples can upload their design for the front and back cover. The package includes a personalised pen with each booklet – a special souvenir of the day. There are also booklets containing activities for children. Guests will be able to upload their responses to the activities, photographs of the day and their messages and wishes for the couple to an online interactive Wedding Wall which will also have an area for absent friends to view a live-stream of the day. The technology allows those who are attending virtually to feel as involved and included as those present by taking part in the same
activities as well as contributing their content in real time. CherryTop Weddings has been developed by the family-run team behind Treasure Trails, a leisure business specialising in family entertainment. Alex Ridd, head of marketing tells us. "The idea for CherryTop Weddings came from my brother's wedding, where we created a booklet for guests with photographs, anecdotes and activities. The guests loved it, so we built on that concept to create CherryTop Weddings. We aim to help couples and guests create and share special memories."
CherryTop Weddings has achieved ‘we’re good to go’ status, the official mark to signal that a tourism and hospitality business has met the Government’s Covid-19 guidelines. Alex adds, “Although the original idea for CherryTop Weddings came before the pandemic, we're thrilled that our product means that couples getting married now can incorporate our new and unique form of entertainment into their day in a Covidsecure way. This time has meant that we're all much more used to doing things virtually. Even after the restrictions are lifted, we expect that trend to continue, with couples looking for ways to involve friends who cannot attend their weddings for health reasons or because they live too far away.” There are different packages available to suit each couple’s needs starting from £150. Personalised Playlist Inspired Party can provide a personalised playlist for the entire day so that couples can still enjoy their favourite tracks even if they aren't allowed to dance with their guests. They can also provide the first dance track, edited if requested, which the couple are still allowed to perform. Why not create a dance mega-mix guaranteed to get a laugh! If attending the event, dream team Lianne and Matt Coombes can host a quiz as an alternative form of evening entertainment that includes a music round. There's also the option of playing the Shoe Game where the happy couple arranges two chairs back-toback in an area where each guest can see them. They remove both their shoes and pass one to their new spouse (so that they're each holding one of their own and one of their spouse's) before a series of questions are fired at them that relate directly to them and they'll answer individually by holding up the shoe that they feel belongs to the person who best fits the question. It creates a bit of light-hearted fun with social distancing rules in place! They also offer dancefloor hire, candy carts, giant LOVE letters and a mobile bar service. Dress up We reveal what fashion experts across both regions will be dressing the female bridal party in at micro weddings this season
A TWIST ON TRADITION
Devon brides will love Torquay-based Dandelions and Pearls, a mother-and-daughter duo offering bespoke bridal and occasion wear specialising in boho and vintage-inspired styles. We catch up with designer, pattern-cutter and dressmaker Lynsey about her latest looks, perfect for intimate weddings. Firstly, she unveils her Ziggy metallic jumpsuit teamed with the Stardust tulle overskirt, perfect for fashion-forward brides who feel that a traditional white gown would look too formal for their micro wedding. “It's a fun look without compromising on style,” Lynsey says. Stella, a silver silk-satin and star-embellished tulle bridal gown with deco-inspired lines, delicate flutter sleeves and a stunning deep V-back is another fantastic choice for a smaller celebration. Brides wanting a plunging neckline will love the Shooting Star evening gown that also features dramatic bishop sleeves and rhinestone details on the shoulders. “For a touch of Hollywood glamour, our silk velvet evening gown Ophelia is an alternative option for a low-key affair, while Elenor, also from the evening collection, also suits micro weddings with its luxurious silk velvet fabric and oversized bow and deep cowl back,” Lynsey describes. Lynsey has also designed a collection of bridal face coverings crafted from sumptuous fabrics including lace with hand-sewn appliqué and beadwork. They come beautifully packaged in organza drawstring bags and gift boxes available to buy from www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ dandelionsandpearls which also sells a small selection of made-to-order designs. amed for her flawless skin, popular TV personality Jess Wright is a busy, gogetting woman. Whether she’s on a shoot, busy filming, hosting her podcast – Girls #NoFilter, planning next year’s wedding to William Lee-Kemp, or hard at work in her role as Crystal Clear’s first celebrity ambassador, her perfect skin is the envy of all. Keen to know her secret, CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews sat down for a chat with the reality star to get the lowdown, just for you! Jess, thanks for making time in your hectic schedule to talk to us and huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. How do you imagine your big day? Thank you! I imagine it to be beautiful, full of love and hopefully classy. As long as I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones, that’s the most important thing. How did William propose? He did it on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room in the mountains in Courchevel. It was both spectacular and amazing. What’s your vision for your bridal beauty look? Good skin is the perfect base so I’ll be prepping with some fab Crystal Clear COMCIT facials in the run up to the big day for sure. Then I’ll want my make-up to be slightly natural, with that dewy glow and some wispy lashes.
Absolutely
FLAWLESS
Our beauty editor caught up with Jess Wright to discuss wedding plans and just how she achieves that perfect complexion

Do you have a picture of your dream dress in mind? I’ve tried on so many dresses, but I definitely have a vision. I think I’ve chosen the one. Completely understand you playing the cards close to your chest there! We look forward to the surprise. As the voice of experience, can you share with us your top wedding planning tips? I’d say, make sure you have a good wedding planner. Also, do the guest list, but don’t send the invitations out until later, as it’ll definitely alter as time goes on! So many couples have been forced to re-plan their weddings as a result of the pandemic. Have you encountered any such difficulties and do you have any advice for other couples facing the same challenges? We’ve considered moving the wedding, but
BEAUTY INTERVIEW
at the minute it’s a day-by-day update, so we’re going to make the final decision in the spring. If you’re not time restricted, I’d say move yours to 2022 if possible, so you can really enjoy the process rather than struggling through the pandemic. Leading a jam-packed celebrity lifestyle while planning a wedding must make you an extremely busy lady! How do you juggle it all while still looking fabulous and flawless? I love keeping busy, so I was really excited about planning a wedding on top of my already hectic lifestyle, but unfortunately
that hasn’t happened as the pandemic and various lockdowns have slowed me down. It has meant though that I’ve had plenty of time on my hands to plan the wedding! What are your make-up bag must haves? I love Chanel foundation for a quick matte bronze. Also, a good eyebrow pencil and a nourishing lip balm. I always keep the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tanning Drops in my kit too. They’re amazing for adding a subtle glow to your skin and you can dial it up depending on the depth of colour you’re looking for. Tell us why you love Crystal Clear. I’m so excited to be chosen as the first ever ambassador for Crystal Clear Skincare. Their products are my holy grail and having tried so many different brands over the years, I just love the results you get with Crystal Clear, so it’s amazing to be working with the brand. The range is extensive with something to suit all skin types and concerns. The Ionic Sonic2 Microdermabrasion Kit is my ultimate secret to Insta-ready, super-cleansed skin. I’m also a big fan of the salon treatments, especially the COMCIT facial. It really is the most fantastic treatment for softer, firmer and hydrated skin.
Which is your favourite product from the range? I’d have to say The Lifting Wand, one of the brand’s beauty tools. It comes with its pharma-grade product, which is packed with hyaluronic acid. You use it for 60 seconds every day and it gives you deep hydration, depuffs eyes, plumps skin and lifts it. It’s really easy to use and fits into your daily routine. For a quick skin fix, I’d also highly recommend the 10 Minute Glow Mask, which literally does what it says on the tin and gives you glowing skin in just 10 minutes. It’s incredibly satisfying to peel off as well! What’s your number one beauty tip for brides? Focus on your skin. Glowing skin is the best thing on your wedding day in terms of beauty, so do whatever you need to make it feel its best. Finally, what’s next for you? Hopefully my wedding! Also, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the musical I’m in. This is all dependant on the pandemic though. Sending my love to everyone at this time. EXPERT ADVICE
Q&A
Our experts answer your questions
YOU GLOW, GIRL
Please can you offer me some bridal hair and make-up ideas for a small outdoor ceremony in the region this summer? Meet the expert: Ione Kutz is a cruelty-free make-up and hair artist based in Cornwall specialising in wedding and photographic make-up.
Meet the expert: Laura Elizabeth is a hair and make-up artist located in Devon covering the South West. She is trained in traditional make-up, airbrushing and all aspects of styling hair. Laura says: My prediction for weddings this summer is the stripped-back, natural look because I think that the lockdown period has shown us all that we can live without all the extras. I’m excited about this trend and cannot wait to see a return of barefaced brides embracing their natural glowing skin, especially those with freckles. This looks great teamed with fresh eye colours like pops of blush that compliment the skin’s natural hues. Those who prefer a fuller coverage will be surprised how much

Ione says: As we all know, 2020 was a difficult year where no one knew whether they would be getting married or not. This year, I think that many couples are realising that their wedding is all about their love for one another so some are booking elopement weddings and intimate micro celebrations that look set to be the new normal, at least in the short term. Because the idea of eloping together sounds romantic and magical, this year’s trending bridal hairstyles will look effortless and flowing instead of being structured and tight. Brides will be choosing natural-looking waves decorated with small, delicate flowers, or opting for loose up dos that work well on textured hair. As for make-up, I think that many brides will want to achieve a healthy bronzed glow possibly teamed with a bold lip colour. work goes into achieving a natural look. It’s all about working with what you’ve got and enhancing the beauty that’s already there. The best thing that brides can focus on right now during the extra time at home that we have all been given as a result of the pandemic is their skin, really nourishing and looking after it getting ready for their big day. Good skin creates the perfect base for any bridal look. Here are my top tips for achieving it: ❤ Hydrate - I can’t stress this enough! Drink at least two litres of water each day. ❤ Invest in a simple and practical routine, don’t overcomplicate it. Source products that work for you and stick with them consistency is key. ❤ Exfoliate two to three times a week to scrub away dead skin cells. ❤ Remember SPF - this is such an important product, especially for summer brides. Get into the habit of wearing it daily, even during winter. Finally, try to reduce the number of days that you wear make-up on and make sure that you thoroughly cleanse your skin to remove all traces of products. For an instant glow, place an ice cube in a clean cloth and move over freshly cleansed skin in circular motions. This is a great way to get an instant glow and tone the skin at the same time!

BERRY NICE
Natura Siberica has launched an affordable vegan-certified range of beauty products based exclusively on altai oblepikha berries, a rich source of vitamin C. From face masks to serums, the C-Berrica collection has it all. I like the sound of the Renewal Foaming Face Powder (£8.49), which foams gently when it meets water and cleanses your skin, helping to remove impurities and make-up residue. Plus, its BHA acids improve skin texture speeding up cell renewal and deep cleans pores. Discover the full collection at www.naturasiberica.co.uk
No need for needles! CLEAN AND CLEAR
We all know about the barrage of environmental abuse our facial skin battles on a daily basis, but what about our scalps? They too are faced with the impact of sweat, pollution, and various styling products. Centred creative director Kieran Tudor says, “Good scalp health is crucial for strong, healthy, beautiful hair, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to hair care regimes.” A deeply nourishing blend of olive, argan and hemp oils, Centred En-Root Scalp Treatment replenishes moisture to dry brittle hair, while exfoliating the scalp and removing product build up and dead skin cells. What’s more, the blend of rosemary and peppermint essential oils stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles maximising hair growth potential. Priced at £36 from www.wearecentred.com
Self-tanning fave Skinny Tan has unveiled its latest product – Notox Beauty Elixir. It’s a smoothing, plumping facial serum specifically formulated to supply your skin with instant anti-aging effects and a glowing gradual selftan. So, say “no” to Botox, and “yes” to Notox! Getting Zoom-ready and embracing the minimal make-up look has never been easier. Notox Beauty Elixir is available at www.skinnytan.co.uk, priced at £19.99.

Enjoy a moment of escapism as you drift off in waters of green and pink with Lush’s new 4:20pm CBD Bath Bomb. An afternoon soak in the bath can aid rest, elevate mood and help focus. Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo, £19.99 Available at Argos, ASDA, Boots, Tesco and Wilko Dermaplaning as a salon treatment has been around for a while, and quite frankly the very thought of it has always terrified me. So, I wasn’t too sure what to expect of this tool. I did my research on the benefits, genned up on this super-useful tutorial and I was ready to go. Wow, I don’t know what I was so worried about. It was easy to do and took no more than five to 10 minutes. Probably 10 for me as I got a bit addicted and couldn’t stop – I don’t recommend that though. It’s an incredibly satisfying process seeing all of that peach fuzz and dead skin disappear. I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin felt afterwards. Leave your skin to rest for around eight hours afterwards before you apply any skin products or make-up as it’s quite an intense exfoliation process, then repeat every two to four weeks. I can’t wait to see how regular use improves my skin further. I’m definitely sold on dermaplaning!

Kevyn Aucoin Kaleidochrome All-Over Highlight Palette, £39 www.lookfantastic.com This multi-tasking palette offers four shades of highlight suitable whatever the look you’re going for. I particularly loved the darker rose Space Party, which I used on my cheeks over my blusher for a radiant glow and Super Cosmic, which I added to the arch of my eyebrows and very top of my cheekbones. It really brought a multi-dimensional look to my make-up that can be tailored for day or night.
Eve Lom Radiance Transforming Mask, £65 www.spacenk.com I was surprised to find a balm texture when I first removed the lid, so was interested to see how this would go. Using the supplied spatula to remove the required amount of mask from the tub, I opted for generous dollop and began to massage it into my face as instructed. Its thick formula felt incredibly luxurious and I could already tell it was going to provide a pampering experience. I was particularly delighted by the advice to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, which gave me an excuse to relax for a decent amount of time – none of this 10 minutes rubbish! When it was time to remove with warm water, I was delighted to find my skin looking renewed, beautifully supple and glowing.
PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP CWM’s beauty editor puts this season’s best buys to the test creating a head-to-toe makeover session you’ll love
Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Lip Duo, £18 www.sculptedbyaimee.com I’m a huge advocate for lip liners and their myriad benefits, but I do struggle to know which shade goes with which lipstick, find the two become separated and will admit to resenting buying both in the first place. So, these Lip Duos are a blessing! Not only are they perfectly colour matched offering you two products for the average price of one, but if your make-up bag is already packed, like mine, they offer a smart solution. I tried Mauve Match, which is a versatile neutral shade, ideal for everyday wear.
No Secrets One Body Jelly, £49 www.nosecretsbeauty.com This jellied body oil smells absolutely incredible with No Secrets’ signature blend of essential oils – bergamot, juniper, petitgrain, eucalyptus and lavender. Less messy than a traditional body oil, you just need to massage a little in at a time for smooth and beautifully soft skin. Plus, the amazing fragrance lasts. Perfect for a pamper. 72
Margaret Dabbs Cracked Heel Treatment, £18 www.margaretdabbs.co.uk Let me start by confessing that my heels are horrendous, always cracked and dry and nothing I try makes a difference. Until now that is. This product was well and truly put through its paces by my horrible hooves and the results were instant. After just one application the sandpaper effect was gone and with continued use it really is a miracle worker. It’s my new beauty essential, and I can’t wait to get the flip flops on!

Retreat to ty the ci
Hannah Faulder visits The Marylebone, and finds out that it offers the best of both worlds for a minimoon in the capital
A
s the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel’s supertrendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the partpedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you’re just a short walk from London’s most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair. Stepping out for a stroll from the hotel, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in a bustling Cotswolds village – that is until you happen upon Oxford Street. But this is what makes it such a wonderful destination for a minimoon or post-wedding break: it’s close to the action, but it provides a tranquil retreat from it too.
STAY Cross the threshold, and you’ll find a neutral palette offsets the pops of colour and modern paintings on the walls perfectly. Look carefully, and you’ll notice a subtle design scheme reflecting the four seasons as you walk through the hotel. Following an extensive refurbishment, the striking decor extends throughout, and no luxurious touch has been spared. Classic timber flooring, marble-topped counters and wood panelling blend seamlessly with curated artwork and designer furniture. There’s a
whole host of event spaces too for weddings and celebrations with real character; I particularly loved the verdant Palm Room and the sociable al fresco terraces. Our corner suite was chic and fresh, its spacious circular layout houses a small kitchen area, complete with Nespresso machine, a sumptuous living area, dining table and huge marshmallowy bed. “We could live here,” my husband and I kept saying to each other. We sat, champagne in hand, and gazed out of the window over the pretty streets of Marylebone with the city lights glittering in the distance; it had a distinct Mary Poppins vibe. The striking marble bathroom boasted a huge bath, walk-in shower and trendy Malin+Goetz toiletries. The welcome pack with COVIDsafe goodies like hand sanitiser was gratefully received, and the hotel clearly states all the measures it has taken to look after guests’ wellbeing. Looking to really treat yourself and your loved one? The super-stylish Marylebone Suite has a showstopping cedar-clad terrace, with a retractable roof, awesome vistas and an outdoor TV and fireplace – it’s certainly memorable! While you’re here, why not treat yourself to some R&R in the Third Space Health Club, with its gym and 18m pool.
EAT We dragged ourselves away from the champagne and fluffy robes long enough to enjoy the hotel’s restaurant, 108 Brasserie. This is not a typical hotel restaurant, more a fabulous eatery for locals and tourists alike
that just happens to be attached. Set on the cobbles of Marylebone Lane, the outdoor seating with patio heaters makes it look so inviting. Inside, you’ll find traditional style with a modern edge, from rich upholstery and parquet flooring to antique mirrors and decadent florals. The meals on the globally inspired menu feature fresh ingredients with a focus on seasonality. Yummy burrata, salads and decadent desserts were the order of the day, making the restaurant a mustvisit for guests.
EXPLORE The next morning, we treated ourselves to a full English breakfast (one vegetarian) in bed, with hearty portions served under silver cloches, before heading out on foot to explore the neighbourhood. This soon turned into a wonderful day strolling through the nearby Royal Parks, spotting parrots and pelicans before ducking into a café for a takeaway coffee as we meandered up The Mall to take in Buckingham Palace. Next up was a stroll through Hyde Park and into the shopping mecca that is Oxford Street before heading back for a quiet drink at the hotel’s bar – perfection! If you don’t get the best weather, though, the capital’s attractions are within easy reach on public transport – or you could just hunker down in your room and luxuriate in your newly wedded bliss.
