CONGRATULATIONS!

The Cary Arms & Spa located in Babbacombe Bay on the South Devon coast has been awarded the Best for Families category by the prestigious Condé Nast Johansens Award for Excellence 2021. Owner and hotelier Peter de Savary tells us, “Winning this award is a testament to the variety of individual cottages with gardens and outdoor space which is ideal and popular for families. I believe that the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence are extremely prestigious. The tourism industry has suffered greatly during 2020 and positive accolades like this highlight the good idea of having a holiday in England rather than overseas. The amazing team of staff upholds the tradition of a wonderful English Riviera seaside holiday. We appreciate this important award and promise everyone great holidays at the Cary Arms in 2021!” The Cary Arms & Spa combines all the charm, personality and values of an English inn on the beach with the style and originality of a boutique hotel. The New England-style luxury sea-facing rooms and the contemporary beach huts and suites are ideal for couples enjoying a minimoon at the property and for those taking their little ones along, the characterful coastal cottages are ideal to enjoy chic coastal living. Think hearty breakfasts, long lunches and lazy suppers – it’s all about enjoying delicious seaside dishes made using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients creatively cooked by the team of talented chefs. Guests can unwind in the state-of-the-art Cary Spa with its waterfall hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, experience shower and gymnasium. Honeymooners can discover the world of leading marine-themed French beauty and skincare brand Thalgo in one of the three treatment rooms. HUNTSHAM COURT LAUNCHES BUBBLE BREAKS

Renowned as the UK’s largest private-hire country home, Huntsham Court has relaunched as a pop-up hotel and private dining venue for a limited time only. Opening in partnership with local event catering company Milkshed Kitchen, guests can enjoy dinner and overnight stays within this Grade II listed house until February 2021. Situated in the rolling countryside close to Exmoor National Park and less than two hours from London, this Victorian mansion offers an escape for those seeking a change of scenery. The new venture sees owners Damian Llambias and Chris Badham turn a successful wedding and corporate private hire business into a hotel in the space of just two weeks, offering the very highest in customer hygiene and safety standards. They are expecting to see a return of previous party and wedding guests who will have the opportunity to stay without the commitment of taking the whole property. They also expect to see an influx of couples who haven’t been able to travel abroad this year looking to treat themselves to a luxurious break with a difference. Damian and Chris tell us, “While other venues have closed their doors due to the current restrictions on weddings and large events, we wanted to sustain our income and keep the building in use so guests can still enjoy the amazing property. You have to adapt despite the challenges of Covid-19 so we decided it would be a chance to reinvent the house and help it play its part in difficult times. Where it’s usually used for big gatherings, it can now offer a quiet escape for individuals, couples and six-person bubbles with relaxing short breaks and a delicious food offering.” Diners can choose between a three-course menu priced at £39.50 per person or a seven-course seasonal tasting menu priced at £55 per person. Sustainability has always been high on the agenda for Damian and Chris, and the menus developed alongside Mark and Katie Hollyer from Milkshed Kitchen reflect this. Damian says, “Our menus include fresh fish and seafood brought ashore at Brixham, and meat from local farmers like Dart’s Farm near Exeter. We love Milkshed’s commitment to high-quality products that showcase the best of Devon, combined with a touch of the exotic and exquisite presentation as it dovetails perfectly with our approach.” Meals will be served in two specially-created dining rooms to ensure spacious dining, and guests will enjoy menus created from scratch that emphasize high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients. After dinner, they can relax in front of the open fire in the oak-panelled drawing room where table service is available for drinks, or take a late stroll around the gardens before retiring to one of the manor’s 40 bedrooms. Overnight guests can opt for one or two-night stays, with a delicious Devon breakfast to look forward to in the morning. A luxurious stay at Huntsham Court Pop-Up Hotel is the perfect pick-me-up priced from £150 per person, per night. The venue will also be accepting separate dining club bookings available to guests aged 11 years and over. Tregulland & Co unveil luxury narrowboat

Tregulland & Co have just announced the addition of Blackbird to its holiday accommodation portfolio, a luxury narrowboat ready for cosy off-grid escapes, the ideal minimoon choice. Sleek and black on the outside and bright and white on the inside, this luxury floating suite is located at the far end of a privately owned, three-acre freshwater lake in North Devon. The backdrop of mature oak and beech ensures total privacy for couples looking to escape and while there are a couple of other boats moored on the large land-locked lake, each one is positioned to ensure a fully private outlook, tucked out of view of neighbours. Blackbird is the first of a duo which will be offered at this location by Tregulland & Co. It started life as a traditional canal boat and has been refitted to offer an open-plan living space ideal for two people with an ensuite shower room as well as it’s very own bankside boudoir bathhouse complete with an elegant roll-top bath positioned to look out across the lake, a love seat and a dressing table. The internal space features white-washed timber cladding, bespoke sofa cushions, a wood burner for chillier evenings, reclaimed flooring and a slate kitchen worktop. There’s also a king-size bed and an adjacent shower room and toilet with REN products. There are 20 acres of newly planted woodland for guests to explore on foot and plenty of wildlife to see. During the summer months, wildflowers flourish attracting clouds of butterflies and dragonflies and binoculars are provided for wildlife watching. It’s a five-minute drive into Holsworthy, a lively town hosting the weekly farmers’ market known for its local beef, cream teas, ice cream and cider, and just 20 minutes from the coast for clifftop walks and surfing at the stunning National Trust Sandymouth beach in Bude or Widemouth Bay Beach. With limited mobile reception and no internet provided, guests are encouraged to switch off and enjoy the surroundings. There’s a portable music player with CD and radio player and Bluetooth. Three-night stays on the weekend during low season start from £480, four-night midweek stays from £400 and seven-night stays from £1300. TAWSTOCK COURT, BARNSTAPLE, DEVON Tawstock Court is a fine Georgian country house with a castle-like appearance situated in 32 acres of grounds and ancient woodlands in the North Devon countryside. It’s perched on a hill with St Peter’s Church only a two-minute walk from the bottom of the garden. The courtyard has recently been revamped into a stunning space with festoon lighting, plenty of tables and seating positioned underneath a canopy of fairylights, a decked area and swinging chairs. Spacious Georgian rooms at the front of the building include period features and offer panoramic views across the valley. The Panelled Hall that opens out onto the balustrade features carved wooden pillars and a magnificent fireplace. Other areas including the bar are decorated more modern but with a vintage flair. The Old Refectory has a beautiful parquet floor and reclaimed wood feature wall and has been transformed into an elegant function room to host larger wedding receptions. In the evening, it sets the stage for a band or disco. For the evening celebration, up to 180 guests can be welcomed.

Ceremonies take place in The Panelled Hall for up to 90 guests and the large front doors open on to the front of the house offering an amazing view across the valley to Codden Hill. The 16th-century Elizabethan Gatehouse, with its original wooden doors, is a lovely choice for an outdoor wedding. For intimate and smaller wedding receptions, the study holds a maximum of 25 people while the Morning Room holds up to 58 and both are wonderful spaces located at the front of the house with period features. The tranquil woodland surroundings include a large private Victorian lake for swimming, kayaking and canoeing - perfect for nature lovers. In the middle of the lake sits two small islands; one with a superb cedar of Lebanon tree and connected to the woodland by a rare granite clapper bridge. The other island is home to a family of Canada geese during the spring and summer months. The interior of the venue is light and airy, and in-keeping with Georgian manor house style. It’s home to 21 bedrooms sleeping up to 75 guests plus a further 11 people can be accommodated in Cork Tree Cottage. The cosy reception rooms are large enough for big parties (when the current Covid-19 restrictions lift) and indoor and outdoor ceremonies take place in a choice of five locations throughout the house and grounds. Indoor options are the oak-panelled front hall seating up to 90 guests and hosting up to 150 standing for the reception, and the beautifully styled living room for a more intimate gathering of up to 50 loved ones. SETTING THE SCENE The couple had originally planned a big wedding for May 2020 which couldn't go ahead because of the Covid-19 restrictions. "When we knew that this had to be cancelled, the most important thing to us both was getting married as soon as possible without feeling like we were compromising," Jess says. "We were searching for an intimate elopement venue with accommodation on-site and a beautiful setting for photos and came across Ever After which ticked all of these boxes and more. We enquired about it in July and booked our wedding for September!" Because it was just the two of them, the styling on the day was arranged by

“We had both meant to write our own vows but ended up being so busy in the lead up to our special day that we didn’t get round to thinking about! Nicola at Ever After and Amanda, their chosen florist. "We wanted a bright, colourful theme and loved the result," Jess says. "The floral tablecloth that Nicola used for our wedding breakfast looked great and we couldn't have been happier with the bouquet and buttonhole!"

LOOKING THE PART Because the couple had already purchased outfits for their original wedding plans, it was important to them that they wore them for their elopement wedding. “It felt great to get dressed up," Jess tells us, “and our wedding photos were how we’d envisaged! I chose the dress called Carla by Made With Love that I'd seen online when we first became engaged and I knew it was the wedding dress for me, I fell in love with the 3D floral detailing. Because I feel the cold, I teamed it with a Levis denim jacket that was hand-painted by Lylun Designs with a custom request from me to feature two of my favourite things - hippos, and flowers. The hippos are holding gin and tonics because the designer, Anna, had originally thought my request to subtly add our initials 'J&T' was a typo and they looked too good not to keep! I also added a bespoke circlet headpiece from Alabaster Dream. I'd tried on a white version in the shop where I bought my dress and loved the detail that it added to my short hairstyle but I wanted a colourful version of it." Ted was born in Scotland but his family aren't originally Scottish so he was keen to wear a kilt but didn't have his family tartan. "We both liked the colours of the Isle of Skye tartan and how it worked well with the green jacket so we opted for that," Jess says. 29 

lexandra and Simon met when they both decided to try speed dating. “Simon was very easy to talk to and had a cheeky smile and lovely dark hair!” Alexandra tells us. “ We just hit it off right from the start.” The couple became engaged during a trip to Paris where Simon had planned a surprise proposal. “I love city breaks and we had a packed itinerary planned,” Alexandra explains. “We had talked about getting married but I didn’t expect Simon to propose whilst we were away. He had planned to ask me to marry him at the top of the Eiffel Tower but after doing a bit of research, he felt that it wouldn’t be the best place because it’s so crowded! He asked me after dinner on our first night in our hotel room and presented me with a ring that we’d both looked at from a contemporary jeweller in Exeter. We did sip champagne at the top of the Eiffel Tower the following day - even though Simon is scared of heights!”

SETTING THE SCENE Alexandra had always wanted to enjoy an outdoor wedding. “We went to see The Boatshed at Larkbeare House and fell in love with the location right next to the River Exe,” she tells us. “Simon owns Terry's Cafe on Sidwell Street in Exeter and, after having to change our original reception venue because they couldn't hold functions at the time we wanted to get married because of the Covid-19 restrictions, we decided to host it there. This made our wedding feel very personal and intimate although we had to rearrange many of our plans with only six weeks to go!” Simon surprised Alexandra by arranging a Mercedes to pick her, her mum and her maid-of-honour up from her mum's house where they all got ready and drive them to the ceremony. "It also took Simon and me as a newly married couple from the register office to the cafe," Alexandra says. The couple decided on a Paris theme as a nod to the city where they became engaged and styled their wedding with rustic touches in a dusky pink colour palette. "Our tables were named after famous landmarks in Paris, after all, we had to reflect the city where we got engaged!" Alexandra says. "I handwrote our table plan on one of Simon's cafe boards and our place names were created with eucalyptus motifs complementing the summer foliage in my bridal bouquet. “Due to the restrictions on travel, my brother could not fly in from Australia to give me away, so my mum gave me away instead. I loved this as did a lot of our guests. She said a few words during the speeches which was a very special moment. There was a real sense of celebration at our wedding - our friend Gill told me that it was the best wedding she had ever attended!” – Alexandra

REAL WEDDINGS

lisianthus, pale pink astilbe, ivory roses and smaller spray roses teamed with waxflower, eucalyptus and fragrant rosemary." The couple displayed four small milk bottles on each of the tables as centrepieces filled with gypsophila. “They looked great sat on top of the hessian and lace table runners that Simon's mother had made for us that reflected our rustic theme,” Alexandra describes. The couple's delicious semi-naked Victoria sponge cake was also decorated with the same flower varieties used in the bridal bouquet along with plenty of berries. For dinner, they offered their guests different mouth-watering options including Thai fish cakes with homemade chilli sauce to start, seared sea bass fillet served with crab potato cake and green beans as a main dish, and key lime pie for dessert. Other details at their reception included bottle openers as favours modelled on an old vintage key, balloons printed with 'just married' placed on the top table, silver and pink balloons framing the entrance, bunting dressing the dancefloor and plenty of fairylights decorating the cafe windows to offer some privacy. “These looked so romantic twinkling during the evening,” Alexandra tells us.

LOOKING THE PART Alexandra wore a Sottero and Midgley dress. “I chose a fitted style that featured a small train,” she tells us. “I loved the elegant lace back and felt that the dress suited my style. I also liked the ethos behind the company from which I bought it because all the money from the sale of their wedding dresses goes towards organising weddings for people with a terminal illness. I accessorised it with a pair of pearl earrings that my mother had given to me as a 30th birthday present, dusky pink espadrille wedges and fresh flowers in my hair.” Simon and his best man wore the same blue suits teamed with silver and ivory waistcoats and dusky pink ties. “Simon had a slightly more elaborate buttonhole than his best man,” Alexandra tells us, “and my maid-of-honour wore a beautiful knee-length dress with a pink sequin top that shimmered in the sunlight paired with some nude sandals.”

TIME TO ENTERTAIN The couple hired a cocktail mixologist who was a big hit with their guests. “Cocktails were in demand!” Alexandra says. “He had created some of his own cocktails for us including a Sidwell Slammer and included my favourite, a Cosmopolitan. We also had a DJ that was recommended by our friends who had got married the year before. Our guests loved it when he played the Prodigy!” 41 

“I feel so happy that my speech was so well received because I was very nervous and didn’t want to stumble over my words! Something that stood out to me was that all of our suppliers were so invested in our big day, it wasn’t just another wedding, for many it was their first of 2020. They, along with our wonderful friends and family members, were all so committed to making our celebrations so very special.” – Simon

“After our first dance, it hit me how smoothly everything had gone for our special day, considering how little time we had to rearrange our plans. There had been many difficult decisions to be made because of the restrictions on weddings that were in place and we were sad that many of our guests could no longer attend but also happy with how things turned out in unprecedented times. The most memorable part of the day for me was seeing Alexandra and her mum walking down the ‘aisle’ through the trees to meet me.” – Simon.

mma and Nathan met at the gym. “We knew of each other and got chatting which led to our first date,” Emma tells us. “I admired his ambition and sense of adventure and Nathan liked the fact that I was independent and also very caring.” The couple became engaged during a climbing trip to Chamonix. “Nathan proposed to me on the summit of Mont Blanc. It was a wonderful surprise!”

SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose to get married at Rockbeare Manor in Exeter. “It's a stunning countryside venue and the building is so beautiful. We knew that our family and friends would love it as much as we did,” Emma says. The couple opted for a springtime florals theme with baby blue touches and references to their many adventures together. “Our table names were after mountains that we had climbed and included Mont Blanc, Scafell Pike and Tryfan,” Emma tells us. “On each one, we had a photograph of us during that particular climbing route. We seated our guests at round tables of between eight and 10 people with hand-written cards as their place names and we both sat at our top table with both sets of our parents.” Emma and Nathan's springtime florals theme shone through in their choice of blooms. "Our centrepieces were lanterns with candles surrounded by a wreath of wildflowers on each table," Emma describes, "and our top table featured a stunning statement floral arrangement which was also placed on the ceremony table. We also had wildflower garlands displayed on the fireplace mantelpieces which look so pretty." Their bouquets, buttonholes and other flower arrangements included eucalyptus, eryngium, blue clematis,

“The ceremony chairs were draped with white chiffon sashes with flowers added which looked so effective framing the aisle.” – Emma 45 

REAL WEDDINGS “The day was a whirlwind, but the best day of our lives. It was filled with everyone that meant the most to us, so we felt very special and loved.” – Emma and Nathan waxflower, grey berries and tree fern and they handed their guests real petal confetti to throw while they stood on the grand stairway in the venue. Because their wedding took place close to Easter, Emma and Nathan chose white boxes tied with baby blue ribbon filled with mini eggs for their adult guests and a bag of puzzles and games for the little ones to keep them occupied during the speeches. They also displayed a rustic woven basket for cards and gifts, an order of the day hand-written on a chalkboard and other signage around the venue. "We had a 'dancefloor rules' board placed near our large light-up letters, a sign outside to direct guests, and a 'and so the adventure begins' sign which all looked great!" Emma tells us.

LOOKING THE PART Emma chose the dress called Galatea from Watters by Willowby. “I fell in love with how unique it was, I wanted something original and I had so many compliments on the day,” she tells us. “It had a deep-plunge neckline that was duplicated at the back, pleated tulle and lace appliqué, a velvet waist tie and silver undertones which look so pretty.” Because Emma’s dress was a statement piece, she chose not to accessorise it too much. “I added a pair of silver leaf earrings and a split veil for the ceremony which attached on both sides of my head and draped down under my ponytail.” Emma and Nathan’s bridesmaids wore baby blue A-line dresses with chiffon ties on the shoulders. “They teamed them with silver sparkly heels that coordinated with my baby blue shoes and on the bottom of each pair, I stuck crystals spelling out the words ‘I do’,” Emma describes. “They also wore small silver heart necklaces and earrings and each had bridesmaid gowns to wear to get ready in which they loved!” Nathan and his groomsmen were all dressed in the same dark blue suits with matching waistcoats, baby blue ties and pocket squares, white shirts, and brown shoes with a pair of personalised socks each featuring the names of their roles at the wedding.

TIME TO ENTERTAIN Along with a DJ hired for the evening, the couple chose to have a photo booth to entertain their guests so that they could each take a picture home with them. “Everyone loved it, even our photographer, Julie, got involved with a bit of help from my grandad!” Emma says. “We also gave everyone sparklers in the evening which provided a good photo opportunity and made sure that the children had games to play. Instead of a guest book, we provided a jar for guests to put a note in for us to read on our first anniversary so it was good fun to read them all this year!”

“I designed and printed all of the invitations and hand-tied them with blue ribbon – they looked so pretty.” – Emma 47 

She has been busy creating hand-painted cakes recently, a design that looks great on smaller cakes, ideal for micro weddings. Claire tells us, “another good idea for small intimate celebrations is for couples to have a wedding cake taking centre stage with mini cakes displayed on a smaller stand that they can send to their guests who couldn’t attend.” Claire is seeing one trend that’s here to stay during 2021. “The ever-popular fresh flowers from the florist creating the wedding blooms being used to decorate the cake ensures that everything coordinates. However, sugar flowers work just as well on smaller wedding cake tiers and look just as pretty.” Let’s connect: 07816 288 626, www.clairessweettemptations.com www.instagram.com/clairessweettemptations

RUM IS THE NEW GIN Ensure your big-day bar is well-stocked with this Caribbean classic! Launched 18 months ago, Devon-based business Two Drifters is the world’s first carbon-negative rum distillery. Born out of a passion for rum, Devon and the planet, founders Gemma and Russ Wakeham launched this from-field-to-glass idea. Russ tells us, “Our ethos is to produce award-winning rums with minimal impact on the planet. We believe there are very few British distilleries that make rum from raw ingredients, rather than importing it and flavouring it, and we’re confident our rum can

compete with the best Caribbean rums on the market.” Gemma continues, “Two Drifters is going from strength to strength. We’re now stocked in John Lewis and Virgin Wines and we produce Exeter Chiefs Rum.” The couple runs distillery tours and wants to make Two Drifters the world’s most established sustainable spirit. It’s the ideal choice for a wedding, simply add your favourite mixer and enjoy. Let’s connect: 01392 445 151, www.twodriftersrum.com www.instagram.com/twodriftersrum

EXPERT ADVICE

HOT TOPIC

Our regional experts share their top wedding tips

IN FULL BLOOM

We’re planning a sustainable summer wedding and want some wow-factor flower arrangements using locally grown blooms - what can you suggest? Meet the expert: Lucy Cooper is the creative force behind Wildflower Floristry, a local, independent florist based in Plymouth. Lucy says: The first thing to bear in mind while planning sustainable summer wedding flowers is the varieties themselves. The summer season offers an array of beautiful blooms, all of which lend themselves to many styles and designs. From pretty wildflower daisies, delphiniums and lavender that help create a country garden feel to the beautifully scented garden roses, hydrangeas and peonies best suited to a more classic theme. My top tip when planning your wedding flowers is to pick them according to the season that you’re getting married in. As well as having a greater selection of flowers to choose from, you’ll also get more value for money because flowers grown and picked in season take fewer resources to grow, are much more sustainable and more reasonably priced than those forced to grow out of season. Finding flower suppliers and florists that sell locally grown flowers and plants (or even grow these products themselves) are always worth looking out for. With so many amazing local growers and florists all over Devon and Cornwall, not only do you get top-quality

products but you’re also supporting smaller local businesses. Another thing to remember while researching sustainable flower arrangements is to bear in mind the different style of vases, jars and containers available because you can create wow-factor displays using any type of container. For example, you can form a stunning group of flowers and foliage in the middle of each table displayed in pots and jars that you might already have at home which are more sustainable because they’re being recycled. They’ll look effective surrounded by biodegradable natural confetti and strewn flowers that can be picked to suit any colour and theme. This is a great DIY idea if you wanted to have a go at creating some of the decoration yourself and if you select wildlife-friendly plants, then they can be planted in your garden afterwards as a lasting memory of your special day. If you wanted to add some larger arrangements to your ceremony or reception venue, why not ask your event coordinator or florist and see what they have available for hire? This way, you don’t need to buy anything and store it, and the items can be delivered to your venue on the day with no hassle. Larger scale arrangements such as archways, garlands and pedestals can all be made with eco-friendly materials and no plastic, featuring locally grown flora and foliage providing an Insta-worthy backdrop. GET ORGANISED

We’re having to reschedule our large wedding for a smaller summer affair and are both feeling a bit overwhelmed! Can you help us with a plan of action? Meet the expert: Sabine Smith is an independent celebrant and owner of Perfect Day Ceremonies covering weddings in Cornwall. Sabine says: Start with getting the official legal part finalised by getting married in a local registry office. You can be legally married with just two witnesses present for a small fee and then host your main celebration anywhere you like. You could even consider a private elopement venue for this part - Cornwall offers many elopement venues where a celebrant will officiate your ceremony and there are no limits to what you can have. Choose a traditional celebration or something more adventurous like a blessing of the rings or a hand-fasting or sand ceremony. Why not consider an out-of-season wedding? An early-spring or autumn one can be just as special as a summer celebration. There might be more availability at your chosen venue for these bookings and your wedding celebrant can conduct the ceremony anywhere you like, for example on the beach, in a castle, in a yurt or even a tipi hut. How about booking a house overlooking the ocean for your loved ones to gather in or hosting a candlelit winter wedding in a cosy Cornish cottage? Seek out venues that can offer a virtual tour. Wedding planners are more than happy to act on your behalf and check out the suitability to make your dream day a reality. Ask potential wedding suppliers for a video call and look at reviews online. You can find recommendations for florists, caterers, wedding planners, cake suppliers, photographers and independent wedding celebrants online and through social media groups. Why not get creative and learn a new skill? Make your own favours or think about creating a personalised guestbook or table decorations. Now’s the time to write your wedding vows. If your ceremony is officiated by a wedding celebrant, you can use any vows or readings that you like, unlike a wedding with a registrar, where you can only use their official vows. The main thing is to remember that you’re both in love and want to get married to celebrate your union. You can plan another special wedding day without feeling like you have lost out if you can’t party with lots of guests – sometimes less is more! Our experts answer your questions

HAVE FUN WITH MUM

I want to do something very special with my mum before my wedding, instead of having a traditional hen weekend. What do you suggest? Meet the expert: Kath Floyd is a style coach and professional make-up artist based in Barnstaple, Devon. Kath says: Hiring a style coach in the run-up to your wedding and honeymoon offers the perfect opportunity to do something fun with your mum and spend some quality time together. I offer makeovers and personal shopping trips which are very popular, especially around Mother’s Day. They also work well close to the date of the wedding trial and can easily be adapted to suit any occasion, for example, a shopping trip for buying the bridal dress or female bridal party outfits. Mother-of-the-bride colour analysis is a very helpful way to determine the best colours for her outfit and also helps you as the bride pick shades for your bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers. I also offer a mother-of-the-bride body shape service which is helpful for your mum to learn about what styles best suit her figure. As a style coach, I can also help to find you your dream wedding gown. Brides with no idea where to start ask for my help because I can show them what style of dress would best suit their body shape and maybe look at alternative colours to the traditional white and ivory. Another fun service that I offer which provides a great way to spend time with your mum while packing for your honeymoon is wardrobe editing where I create capsule collections for your honeymoon. I also have a pop-up shop where I sell a range of clothes so I can bring these along. This is a great way of shopping at the moment if you want something a bit different from the high street and don’t want to buy online where you’re often guessing at sizes and having to send things back.

NEW BEGINNINGS

We’re getting married this summer so I would love some ideas for my make-up and hair. Meet the expert: Kimberly Holland is a bridal hair and make-up artist covering weddings across Cornwall. Kimberly says: Soft and loose romantic hairstyles with beachy waves and curls are still a very popular choice. Brides are enjoying this unstructured boho style that can be easily accessorised with many different options. These pretty hair designs are timeless and I know I’ll have brides requesting them for a long while yet. However, while a more casual style continues to be popular, I think we will see more brides opting for chic, smooth styles too. Simple low ponytails, elegant chignons and classic French pleats are on-trend and suit simple, unembellished gowns. Pairing a middle parting with these styles will keep them modern for 2021. Many of my brides are requesting a strong make-up look with a bold burgundy or rich red lip colour and dark eye make-up. Rose gold and pink tones have been a preferred pallet for the past couple of summers and while I still use them a lot with some brides preferring the natural look, I am also adding smokier shades to them. Summer 2021 is going to be full of colour so be brave and try it out at your trial appointment! Meet the expert: Melanie Rice is a professional make-up artist and a fully trained beauty therapist based in Crediton, Devon. Melanie says: Weddings in summer 2021 will be all about pastels, pastels and more pastels! Soft pink, baby blue and blush colours with a touch of sparkle are going to be trending, with Instagram full of fun ideas.

HEAD TO THE EAST

Wilderness Reserve has launched its second country estate, Chapel Barn, just in time for the staycation boom whether you want to head away pre- or post-vows. The Chapel Barn (once a 15th-century farmstead) has all the charm of its heritage intact and yet comes with a host of luxury facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, cinema, gym and spa set over 5,000 magnificent acres of carefully maintained Suffolk countryside. Accommodation options range from the one-bed electricity-free Hovel, set by the lake, through to Chapel Barn itself, which comes with 18 en suite bedrooms. All seven properties may be rented individually and each building has been sensitively restored, employing the traditional methods of local artisans. Other highlights include Moat Cottage, painted in fetching Suffolk pink. It’s found atop its own hill, surrounded by water full of wildlife. Its hot tub and rowboat are both wonderful spots to take in 360° views of the Suffolk countryside and there’s space on its lawns for fun group activities.
