Big-day transport
MC Wedding Cars has won the One To Watch Award from the Four Counties Wedding Awards despite the challenging year caused by COVID-19. Couples nominated the company and their kind words and recommendations were a much-needed boost at the end of a difficult year. The business started back in 2019; Michael Roberts says, “I had just been made redundant in 2018 and was seeking a new job. We were looking for transport for my daughter’s wedding simultaneously, and I came across an eight-seater wedding bus for sale. Thinking this would be a good idea for a new business venture, we purchased the bus with my redundancy money and MC Wedding Cars was born.” Check out: https://mcweddingcars.co.uk
BLOOMIN’ BEAUTIFUL
Here at Your Herts and Beds Wedding HQ, we love this top advice about the shape and style of bouquets shared by Kirsty Mcgilley at The Flower Mill. Kirsty says, “Make sure you show a photo of your wedding dress to your florist as they’ll be able to advise a shape and size to complement your build and dress-style. As a trained florist, we have an eye for creating the perfect bridal bouquet to enhance your shape and dress without detracting from the gown itself.” Check out: www.the-flower-mill.co.uk

REAL WEDDINGS
A WHIMSICAL
woodland wedding Laura and Michael’s woodland-themed wedding was breathtaking Images courtesy of Tara Gillen Photography
O
nline dating is a popular way to meet new people and that’s precisely how Laura and Michael first met. She says, “After a week of talking on an app called Plenty of Fish, we decided to go out for a drink and the evening went so well! As soon as I got on a bus home, I messaged Michael asking ‘how long is socially acceptable to ask for a second date? Is now too soon?’. “I was attracted to his humour; he always manages to make me laugh at his cheesy jokes. We didn’t have much in common, apart from our love of Star Trek and all things sci-fi, but that was enough for us!” Mike fell in love with Laura’s confidence and enthusiasm; he realised he wanted to spend the rest of his life by her side.
On the couple’s 4th anniversary, Mike proposed during a weekend away to Center Parcs. His original intention was to pop the question during a romantic moonlit walk around the lake, but things didn’t go to plan. Laura says, “Mike went down onto the shore and called me over, but I refused to join him in fear that the geese on the man-made beach would chase me.” After trying to think of a new plan, Mike decided to propose back at their hotel instead. Laura comments, “It took me completely by surprise; I was on the way to the bathroom in my pyjamas, desperate for the loo at the time! Classic us really, we’re such a goofy and laid-back couple – it’s a story we can look back on and laugh about.” Here Laura shares details about their special day… 29

Mike is a big car enthusiast and during the best man’s speech, it was announced (to my surprise) that he’d secretly bought a new car the previous week and had been hidi ng it from me! That announcement certainly got them both into trouble; luckily the photographer captured the moment.
We hired Chris, a master of ceremonies, to help keep everything organised, he was so helpful with our older guests and made sure they were comfortable and found their seats quickly to avoid standing for too long.

auren went for a new job interview back in 2012 where Sid saw her in the workplace and jokingly said to a colleague that she would be the future Mrs Walters; little did he know this would be the case eight years later! After three months of working together, Sid plucked up the courage to ask her out during a Christmas party. Lauren says, “His pick-up line was something about New Year’s resolutions and his one being to take someone called Lauren out to dinner. It was cheesy but I couldn’t resist.” After just a few date nights and some wintry walks, Lauren and Sid made it official by the end of January. Although Sid had been ready to propose for a while, Lauren had no idea and had been talking about switching up the tradition and proposing herself. But Sid got there first and proposed in July 2019, with a ring he had helped make himself. Lauren adds, “Sid had searched around for a jeweller willing to let him help make the ring and was recommended Harrisons Jewellers. He worked with the owner, Matthew, to design and make the item in the workshop. The ring was ready on Sid’s birthday and he made an excuse to pop out. On his return, he snapped up his opportunity to propose – I was astonished and so excited as I hadn’t seen it coming at all!”
SETTING THE SCENE Located in Hertfordshire, South Farm is a stunning wedding venue with beautiful gardens and charming spaces available for weddings. It’s no wonder why this homely venue was the backdrop to Lauren and Sid’s special day. The bride says, “We could see the venue had fabulous reviews and offered a stunning countryside setting for our photographs, which was important to us.” The wedding was planned with only a few months notice and the farm provided the perfect location with ceremony and reception spaces all in one place, helping to keep the planning simple. The couple wanted to create a warm and relaxed atmosphere on the day and chose a navy and burgundy colour scheme which was incorporated throughout the day. Each table was decorated beautifully with place names written in calligraphy, floral displays, romantic candles and burgundy petals. The bride says, “We wanted everyone to be ‘table one’ and as we had so many countries represented in the room, each table was named after the number but in different languages. This included Slovak, Welsh, Japanese, Spanish, English and elvish for The Lord of the Rings fans.” Guests could find their seats with help from the table plan created on a burgundy card with paper butterflies. Delicious homemade iced sugar biscuits were given to guests as favours and in the evening they enjoyed the big-day cake. Lauren says, “The cake was simple with white icing, gold leaves and handcrafted sugar paste flowers. We had a rich fruit sponge which is my favourite and Sid picked a darkchocolate flavoured layer.”
LOOKING THE PART The bride looked stunning in a sheath-style dress with a lace back and jewelled shoulders. She says, “I’d seen it online and had fallen in love with the sleek but glamorous-style and knew it was perfect when I tried it on. I added sparkly heels, a silver bangle, simple hoop earrings and a feather and crystal hairpiece to finish off the look. My burgundy stole was made by my mum and I still keep it now as a cosy wrap. I was a little overwhelmed once I got into my dress on the day as I couldn’t 35

REAL WEDDINGS quite believe we were about to get married!” When it came to finding the perfect bouquet, the bride picked a wild and relaxed trailing arrangement with burgundy and cream flowers. Sid and the groomsmen looked dashing in different navy suits, they could pick what style to wear as the couple wanted everyone to feel comfortable – it made for lovely photos. The bridesmaids wore floor-length burgundy dresses with a flattering band around the waist, and grey/pink wool wraps were given to them to ensure they all stayed warm during the wedding.
TIME TO CELEBRATE Instead of a first dance, something the couple never wanted to do, they opted for a game of Mr & Mrs instead. Lauren comments, “It brought everyone together with a lot of fun questions such as ‘If your dog could talk, who would he say he loves the most’ and ‘Who is most likely to give the other food poisoning?’ the guests loved it!” A DJ played during the evening to keep loved ones entertained and was a massive hit with the kids who were skidding across the floor. Even the adults were up on their feet having a great time!
MEMORABLE MOMENTS Lauren and Sid were blown away by the amount of love shared by friends and family during the day. The bride says, “Aside from the moment we became husband and wife, the best part of the day hands down was Sid’s speech. He spoke from the heart and everyone was thoroughly enjoying his entertaining memories and anecdotes. Then you could feel the emotion in the room build as Sid talked about our very challenging year. We endured three rounds of IVF and everyone was captivated as Sid spoke about the run-up to the wedding and feeling utterly blessed to be able to announce our successful third IVF cycle and pregnancy! The room erupted with cheering and tears, it was the most incredible moment and our little girl arrived seven months later!”
HONEYMOON The couple visited Devon for their honeymoon and stayed in a beautiful cottage on the border of Exmoor. Here the pair relaxed in front of the fire and went on wintry walks, like they did when they first met.

H
olly and Conor first crossed paths at a business meeting. Conor says, “I was instantly attracted to her; she was beautiful and extremely friendly. I made sure to sit near her before the presentation started. I felt that we hit it off and I continued attending these functions every week so I could see Holly more.” After a few weeks, Conor plucked up the courage to ask her on a date. He knew she was special as he had never felt that nervous asking someone out before. He comments, “She is so thoughtful and brings out the best in me.” Conor popped the question in Cambridge near a beautiful river next to Darwin College. He says, “I created a story about buying a new car from a guy called Paul and planned to go for lunch beforehand – this was where I was going to propose. However, Holly wanted us to get the car first and I was panicking the whole journey thinking I would have to convince a guy to pretend to be named Paul to not give anything away. Luckily, I managed to convince Holly that he couldn’t see us until three. The proposal was very private on a snowy day and I had never been happier when she said yes.” Here Conor shares details about their special day... 39
I wanted the day to be perfect for Holly!
Our wedding changed last minute due to COVID-19, we originally had 120 guests attending our three-day event in the South of France. We planned to have a welcoming barbecue, the wedding day and then a pool party on the Sunday. However, we ended up being married in our hometown with 30 guests due to regulations, but it was still amazing! I had my heart set on a mirrored table plan as it not only looks classy, but would work perfectly with the hotel’s Victorian style. We picked glass cylinders with chunky candles inside and flowers and foliage for the centrepieces.
40
REAL WEDDINGS A family friend owns The Leaside Hotel, so it was a no-brainer when we had to pick a local venue. The staff were excellent and managed to plan our wedding in just two weeks!
Our cake had sugar roses on and tasted delicious!
Holly travelled to the venue in my dad’s Bentley and the best man provided a minibus for the boys to travel in – both worked out perfectly!
Each bridesmaid carried a floral hoop instead of a bouquet.
Holly fell in love with a Grace Loves Lace gown called Gia; she went dress shopping alone and says it was the best decision she’d made!
41
I wore a Marc Darcy tweed-style suit which matched the groomsmen.
The bridesmaids wore beaded dresses in pink.
My dad surprised us with a magician on the day.
We didn’t have a DJ because of COVID-19, but everyone could communicate easier this way and it created more memorable moments.
It was lovely to see how happy our parents were all day!
Holly was surprisingly calm on the day, but panic set in when she was almost late to the registry office due to timekeeping!
I felt extremely proud that Holly was becoming my wife.

L
ocated in Hertfordshire, The Gaddesden Estate is an outdoor venue which offers couples exceptional locations for beautiful receptions and dreamy photographs. The brains behind the shoot, Louise Barcock at Big Green Space was inspired by the different elements of the venue including the formal gardens at the Golden Parsonage, a sunken garden known as Fishponds and a wildflower meadow which backs onto the original walled garden. With help from other talented suppliers, the team created this stunning shoot full of wedding inspiration. Louise says, “Fishponds is set in a Medieval sunken garden and the trees create an intimate feel with branches hanging over the long table. The natural wood furniture, unstructured florals, crystal chandeliers and glassware creates a real inside/outside feel. The opulent table in Badgers Garden was a nod to the glamorous parties held in the Golden Parsonage, the 18th-century house at the heart of the estate, with styling that reflects the history of the property perfectly. A marquee was set up in the Walled Garden Meadow, inspired by the romantic space and the garden’s gorgeous florals.” The shoot is the perfect way to show how beautiful weddings can be achieved no matter what budget couples are working with as the venue has multiple options available for the special day. 43

In full bloom From local expert advice to inspiration, we’ve got your big-day flowers covered!
Creations Flowers by Tracy Goodwin
Q I’m having a rustic-style wedding and I’m looking for flowers to match the theme. What would you suggest? Tracy says: Rustic weddings have a more relaxed look, they reflect a natural beauty and embrace nature-inspired textures. When looking for flowers to complement or enhance a rustic theme, I suggest that they also match the style of your chosen venue. Rustic-themed weddings lend themselves to barns or other outdoor-style venues that incorporate natural or natureinspired elements. For me, it isn’t a question of flower type but more about the colours and seasonality that influence the flowers chosen for a rustic theme. Steer clear on being set on one specific colour but look for a range of flowers that have a variety of shades and complements the green grasses and foliage they are mixed with.
Wedding inspiration
SPRING AND SUMMER ❤ Pale pastel roses and peonies mixed with plenty of foliage from eucalyptus to grasses provide a more woodland feel. ❤ Dusky pink roses, cream roses and peonies mixed with lisianthus and foliage. ❤ Purple/lilac flowers I’d suggest are hyacinths, scabious, anemones, ranunculus, purple Muscari tulips, delphiniums, clematis Monte Cassino, rose amnesia and ocean song roses. AUTUMN ❤ Weddings at this time of year allow you to go for something slightly brighter and bolder, mixing yellow sunflowers, bright red and orange roses, with some greenery, thistles and berries.
WINTER ❤ Mix lilac and deep red roses with foliage including berries, pinecones and gypsophila for a more wintry look and feel.
Finishing touches
❤ As the theme is more natural, arrangements can be made a little ‘messier’ in style rather than the traditional formal bouquets with flowers and foliage placed randomly. ❤ Use ribbons twine or string to help soften the arrangements. ❤ Replace traditional vases and candelabras with urns, wooden crates or buckets. Introduce natural or woven elements to the arrangements and bouquets. Check out www.creationsflowers.co.uk

Town Garden, Maxine Barker
Q I’m looking for flowers for my wedding day, what is currently on trend? Maxine says: To a certain extent, I’d advise to not be navigated by trends when choosing your wedding flowers. Flowers can be an extension of someone’s personality, help relive a memory or remind you of someone special. Following someone else’s ideas or dreams may not give you that personal connection. There is no right or wrong when it comes to flowers, everyone is different and this is what makes this process so exciting; so be brave and bold with your choices, know what you want and own it! If you’re in need of guidance, colour schemes are a good place to start. Choose something that works for you and your overall wedding vision, using the colour in multiple areas of your wedding will help tie everything together. Now that the colour has been decided, you can delve into the exciting prospect of flower choices, foliages and style. Boho, chic, classic, contemporary, garden, elegant, rustic, modern, the styles are endless but can all be tweaked and adapted to suit you. Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles, this can look amazing! Be open to ideas when speaking to someone about flowers and take their expertise and advice on board when finalising plans as this usually gives you the best overall look and feel. No need for needles! CLEAN AND CLEAR
We all know about the barrage of environmental abuse our facial skin battles on a daily basis, but what about our scalps? They too are faced with the impact of sweat, pollution, and various styling products. Centred creative director Kieran Tudor says, “Good scalp health is crucial for strong, healthy, beautiful hair, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to hair care regimes.” A deeply nourishing blend of olive, argan and hemp oils, Centred En-Root Scalp Treatment replenishes moisture to dry brittle hair, while exfoliating the scalp and removing product build up and dead skin cells. What’s more, the blend of rosemary and peppermint essential oils stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles maximising hair growth potential. Priced at £36 from www.wearecentred.com
Self-tanning fave Skinny Tan has unveiled its latest product – Notox Beauty Elixir. It’s a smoothing, plumping facial serum specifically formulated to supply your skin with instant anti-aging effects and a glowing gradual selftan. So, say “no” to Botox, and “yes” to Notox! Getting Zoom-ready and embracing the minimal make-up look has never been easier. Notox Beauty Elixir is available at www.skinnytan.co.uk, priced at £19.99.

Q&A
My mum is so excited about our wedding and wants to look her best; what mother-of-the-bride outfits are currently on-trend? With weddings coming back and non-essential retail being allowed to open after the Government lift the restrictions, now is the perfect time to look for that special mother-of-the-bride outfit. Here at Cream of Royston, we have excellent stock for all occasions and budgets. Dresses and jackets, preferably with sleeves, are still very much in demand and Condici and Ispirato both have a fantastic selection available. It is also popular to have a stand-alone dress with a statement hat. No matter what, the outfit must be comfortable to wear. It’s a good idea for the couple’s mums to discuss what colour they’re wearing to look and feel a million dollars without worrying about matching. We offer a free alteration service on all full-priced outfits purchased. Lingerie is available to buy simultaneously; it’s just as important to have the right garment underneath your clothes. Our experts give their advice to help you look your big-day best
How can I restore my colour-damaged hair in time for my wedding day? Colour damage can make your hair look dry, dull and lead to breakage – not exactly what you want for your special day! You can do a few things leading up to the wedding from home to get your healthy hair back, but your hairdresser should also be able to give you some options. Depending on how far away the special day is, make yourself a ‘hair journey’ and remember your locks go through a six-week cycle. Here are a few easy steps to follow... ❤ Invest in a bond-restoring shampoo; Olapex is the best. ❤ Use weekly conditioning treatments with natural products like coconut oil. ❤ Book your haircuts in advance, as regular trims can improve your hair’s overall appearance and eliminate any split ends. ❤ Talk to your hair colourist about using low ammonia or even ammoniafree hair colour to avoid further damage! LUSCIOUS LOCKS
Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo, £19.99 Available at Argos, ASDA, Boots, Tesco and Wilko Dermaplaning as a salon treatment has been around for a while, and quite frankly the very thought of it has always terrified me. So, I wasn’t too sure what to expect of this tool. I did my research on the benefits, genned up on this super-useful tutorial and I was ready to go. Wow, I don’t know what I was so worried about. It was easy to do and took no more than five to 10 minutes. Probably 10 for me as I got a bit addicted and couldn’t stop – I don’t recommend that though. It’s an incredibly satisfying process seeing all of that peach fuzz and dead skin disappear. I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin felt afterwards. Leave your skin to rest for around eight hours afterwards before you apply any skin products or make-up as it’s quite an intense exfoliation process, then repeat every two to four weeks. I can’t wait to see how regular use improves my skin further. I’m definitely sold on dermaplaning!

Kevyn Aucoin Kaleidochrome All-Over Highlight Palette, £39 www.lookfantastic.com This multi-tasking palette offers four shades of highlight suitable whatever the look you’re going for. I particularly loved the darker rose Space Party, which I used on my cheeks over my blusher for a radiant glow and Super Cosmic, which I added to the arch of my eyebrows and very top of my cheekbones. It really brought a multi-dimensional look to my make-up that can be tailored for day or night.

TRIED AND TESTED
I was surprised to find a balm texture when I first removed the lid, so was interested to see how this would go. Using the supplied spatula to remove the required amount of mask from the tub, I opted for generous dollop and began to massage it into my face as instructed. Its thick formula felt incredibly luxurious and I could already tell it was going to provide a pampering experience. I was particularly delighted by the advice to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, which gave me an excuse to relax for a decent amount of time – none of this 10 minutes rubbish! When it was time to remove with warm water, I was delighted to find my skin looking renewed, beautifully supple and glowing.
PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP CWM’s beauty editor puts this season’s best buys to the test creating a head-to-toe makeover session you’ll love
Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Lip Duo, £18 www.sculptedbyaimee.com I’m a huge advocate for lip liners and their myriad benefits, but I do struggle to know which shade goes with which lipstick, find the two become separated and will admit to resenting buying both in the first place. So, these Lip Duos are a blessing! Not only are they perfectly colour matched offering you two products for the average price of one, but if your make-up bag is already packed, like mine, they offer a smart solution. I tried Mauve Match, which is a versatile neutral shade, ideal for everyday wear.
No Secrets One Body Jelly, £49 www.nosecretsbeauty.com This jellied body oil smells absolutely incredible with No Secrets’ signature blend of essential oils – bergamot, juniper, petitgrain, eucalyptus and lavender. Less messy than a traditional body oil, you just need to massage a little in at a time for smooth and beautifully soft skin. Plus, the amazing fragrance lasts. Perfect for a pamper.
Margaret Dabbs Cracked Heel Treatment, £18 www.margaretdabbs.co.uk Let me start by confessing that my heels are horrendous, always cracked and dry and nothing I try makes a difference. Until now that is. This product was well and truly put through its paces by my horrible hooves and the results were instant. After just one application the sandpaper effect was gone and with continued use it really is a miracle worker. It’s my new beauty essential, and I can’t wait to get the flip flops on! 69

amed for her flawless skin, popular TV personality Jess Wright is a busy, gogetting woman. Whether she’s on a shoot, busy filming, hosting her podcast – Girls #NoFilter, planning next year’s wedding to William Lee-Kemp, or hard at work in her role as Crystal Clear’s first celebrity ambassador, her perfect skin is the envy of all. Keen to know her secret, CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews sat down for a chat with the reality star to get the lowdown, just for you! Jess, thanks for making time in your hectic schedule to talk to us and huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. How do you imagine your big day? Thank you! I imagine it to be beautiful, full of love and hopefully classy. As long as I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones, that’s the most important thing. How did William propose? He did it on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room in the mountains in Courchevel. It was both spectacular and amazing. What’s your vision for your bridal beauty look? Good skin is the perfect base so I’ll be prepping with some fab Crystal Clear COMCIT facials in the run up to the big day for sure. Then I’ll want my make-up to be slightly natural, with that dewy glow and some wispy lashes.
Absolutely

Do you have a picture of your dream dress in mind? I’ve tried on so many dresses, but I definitely have a vision. I think I’ve chosen the one. Completely understand you playing the cards close to your chest there! We look forward to the surprise. As the voice of experience, can you share with us your top wedding planning tips? I’d say, make sure you have a good wedding planner. Also, do the guest list, but don’t send the invitations out until later, as it’ll definitely alter as time goes on! So many couples have been forced to re-plan their weddings as a result of the pandemic. Have you encountered any such difficulties and do you have any advice for other couples facing the same challenges? We’ve considered moving the wedding, but
BEAUTY INTERVIEW
at the minute it’s a day-by-day update, so we’re going to make the final decision in the spring. If you’re not time restricted, I’d say move yours to 2022 if possible, so you can really enjoy the process rather than struggling through the pandemic. Leading a jam-packed celebrity lifestyle while planning a wedding must make you an extremely busy lady! How do you juggle it all while still looking fabulous and flawless? I love keeping busy, so I was really excited about planning a wedding on top of my already hectic lifestyle, but unfortunately
that hasn’t happened as the pandemic and various lockdowns have slowed me down. It has meant though that I’ve had plenty of time on my hands to plan the wedding! What are your make-up bag must haves? I love Chanel foundation for a quick matte bronze. Also, a good eyebrow pencil and a nourishing lip balm. I always keep the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tanning Drops in my kit too. They’re amazing for adding a subtle glow to your skin and you can dial it up depending on the depth of colour you’re looking for. Tell us why you love Crystal Clear. I’m so excited to be chosen as the first ever ambassador for Crystal Clear Skincare. Their products are my holy grail and having tried so many different brands over the years, I just love the results you get with Crystal Clear, so it’s amazing to be working with the brand. The range is extensive with something to suit all skin types and concerns. The Ionic Sonic2 Microdermabrasion Kit is my ultimate secret to Insta-ready, super-cleansed skin. I’m also a big fan of the salon treatments, especially the COMCIT facial. It really is the most fantastic treatment for softer, firmer and hydrated skin.
Which is your favourite product from the range? I’d have to say The Lifting Wand, one of the brand’s beauty tools. It comes with its pharma-grade product, which is packed with hyaluronic acid. You use it for 60 seconds every day and it gives you deep hydration, depuffs eyes, plumps skin and lifts it. It’s really easy to use and fits into your daily routine. For a quick skin fix, I’d also highly recommend the 10 Minute Glow Mask, which literally does what it says on the tin and gives you glowing skin in just 10 minutes. It’s incredibly satisfying to peel off as well! What’s your number one beauty tip for brides? Focus on your skin. Glowing skin is the best thing on your wedding day in terms of beauty, so do whatever you need to make it feel its best. Finally, what’s next for you? Hopefully my wedding! Also, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the musical I’m in. This is all dependant on the pandemic though. Sending my love to everyone at this time. EXPERT ADVICE
THE WOW FACTOR
I’m looking to add personal touches to my wedding day, what would you suggest? It’s essential to think about how you style the reception tables as your guests will be sitting there a large amount of the day. Personalising your wine bottles is an easy and effective way to add a special touch to the wedding. Whether you personalise all the wines with both of your names and the wedding date, or simply a bottle for each table, there are some quirky and fun designs to create. You could add the table numbers onto the wine bottles with different photos on the label for each table or an image of countries you’ve visited together – the options are endless! Here at Bottle Bazaar, you can personalise any of our modern designs or create your own style. India Marshall-Roads | Bottle Bazaar | www.bottlebazaar.co.uk
What should we take into consideration before booking a venue for our wedding? Here are five essential things to take into consideration before you book a wedding venue... ❤ Understand the logistics and budget by having a rough idea of how many guests you would like to invite. Many venues will be crossed off your list at this stage before you go and look at them. ❤ An important factor to consider when choosing your venue is availability. ❤ Take into account the setting and decide what style you’re looking for such as elegant, vintage or modern to help find venues that match your theme. ❤ Make a list of questions to ask at showrounds to help narrow down which venues are right for you. You can then confidently make a shortlist of two to three places and hold provisional bookings whilst you check the registrar has your preferred date and time available. ❤ Get to know the team behind the venue; the more confidence you have in the team, the smoother the planning process will be. What types of wedding bands are currently on trend? Wedding rings can seem like a daunting item of jewellery to choose or design, which is why a simple band can seem like a sensible option. I’m excited to see more couples who want something a little bit different for their rings, something that’s personal to them and their style. Here is a quick rundown of some of the trends I’m working with for my clients... ❤ Tiara wedding rings are sparkly crown-shaped rings that can be the perfect accompaniment to a classic solitaire engagement ring. This style can work with fitted wedding rings as well as straight bands and the silhouette can make a lovely engraving on a groom’s band to tie the two rings together. ❤ Vintage-style pavé set diamonds and mill grained edges are a style classic that refuses to go away and looks spectacular next to an engagement ring with plain shoulders to add some definition between the two. I have made several diamond-cut rings recently, which are a gorgeous way to achieve some sparkle and texture without adding gemstones. ❤ Diamonds have always been a classic addition to wedding jewellery, but more of my customers opt for colour using stones like sapphires, rubies and tourmalines. I’m looking for jewellery to give my bridesmaids as a thank you present, what would you suggest? Bespoke pendants, earrings and bracelets are an excellent gift for your bridesmaids as they not only complement the bridesmaids’ outfits on the day, but they can be worn forevermore. The design itself can be simple and elegant or have a bit more of a punch. You can create the pieces with their taste in mind and can add a splash of colour. One of the most beautiful and exciting pieces I designed for a bride was based on her love of her hometown in Wales. From her beloved family garden, where she spent a lot of her time, we chose the perfect twig to incorporate in the design. We 3D-scanned it, added a claw setting and cast it into silver to make an earring and necklace set. The organic elegance with the vibrance of the orange citrine not only complemented her bridesmaids’ dresses and the bride’s colour theme, but was also the perfect memento. I’m having a rustic-themed wedding and I’m looking to transform my venue. How can I achieve this? When working with brides to achieve their dream wedding and desired aesthetic, we love to see both their venue and moodboards to ensure we’re all on the same page. At Victoria + Claire, our interpretation of a rustic style when translated into wedding terms is a rural countryside blended with a timeless, romantic and intimate feeling. We use our props to create a mood, not just a setting, that also complements the venue. We use crate boxes to add depth and various levels to flowers and objects and then add ivory drapes to soften and give an elegant and sophisticated vibe. Our cylinder vases and gold lanterns with candles provide an intimate and romantic atmosphere to any room. Our wooden arbour is a big feature display; the natural wood works great with barn beams and allows blooms to be wildly placed. Unless a bride requests an entirely bespoke approach to signage, our standard font and signs are both soft and delicate – the devil really is in the detail! STYLED TO PERFECTION
NOW THAT’S ENTERTAINMENT!
Why is live music so important at weddings? I believe that live music sets the tone and mood of a wedding like nothing else can; this is especially the case when the couple chooses to have live music during the ceremony itself. From a short ceremony in a registry office to a grand affair, live music will make it a magical and personal occasion. I tailor each wedding booking to suit a couple’s desires and strive to accommodate requests that hold a special meaning to the couple. I have some popular choices in my repertoire such as Pachelbel’s Canon, Ed Sheehan’s Perfect and Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years. If the couple chooses to walk down the aisle to the Game of Thrones theme tune and exit to the Star Wars theme tune, then that is fine by me – I have played both of these on more than one occasion! HONEYMOON
Retreat to ty the ci
Hannah Faulder visits The Marylebone, and finds out that it offers the best of both worlds for a minimoon in the capital
A
s the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel’s supertrendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the partpedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you’re just a short walk from London’s most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair. Stepping out for a stroll from the hotel, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in a bustling Cotswolds village – that is until you happen upon Oxford Street. But this is what makes it such a wonderful destination for a minimoon or post-wedding break: it’s close to the action, but it provides a tranquil retreat from it too.
STAY Cross the threshold, and you’ll find a neutral palette offsets the pops of colour and modern paintings on the walls perfectly. Look carefully, and you’ll notice a subtle design scheme reflecting the four seasons as you walk through the hotel. Following an extensive refurbishment, the striking decor extends throughout, and no luxurious touch has been spared. Classic timber flooring, marble-topped counters and wood panelling blend seamlessly with curated artwork and designer furniture. There’s a
whole host of event spaces too for weddings and celebrations with real character; I particularly loved the verdant Palm Room and the sociable al fresco terraces. Our corner suite was chic and fresh, its spacious circular layout houses a small kitchen area, complete with Nespresso machine, a sumptuous living area, dining table and huge marshmallowy bed. “We could live here,” my husband and I kept saying to each other. We sat, champagne in hand, and gazed out of the window over the pretty streets of Marylebone with the city lights glittering in the distance; it had a distinct Mary Poppins vibe. The striking marble bathroom boasted a huge bath, walk-in shower and trendy Malin+Goetz toiletries. The welcome pack with COVIDsafe goodies like hand sanitiser was gratefully received, and the hotel clearly states all the measures it has taken to look after guests’ wellbeing. Looking to really treat yourself and your loved one? The super-stylish Marylebone Suite has a showstopping cedar-clad terrace, with a retractable roof, awesome vistas and an outdoor TV and fireplace – it’s certainly memorable! While you’re here, why not treat yourself to some R&R in the Third Space Health Club, with its gym and 18m pool.
EAT We dragged ourselves away from the champagne and fluffy robes long enough to enjoy the hotel’s restaurant, 108 Brasserie. This is not a typical hotel restaurant, more a fabulous eatery for locals and tourists alike
that just happens to be attached. Set on the cobbles of Marylebone Lane, the outdoor seating with patio heaters makes it look so inviting. Inside, you’ll find traditional style with a modern edge, from rich upholstery and parquet flooring to antique mirrors and decadent florals. The meals on the globally inspired menu feature fresh ingredients with a focus on seasonality. Yummy burrata, salads and decadent desserts were the order of the day, making the restaurant a mustvisit for guests.
EXPLORE The next morning, we treated ourselves to a full English breakfast (one vegetarian) in bed, with hearty portions served under silver cloches, before heading out on foot to explore the neighbourhood. This soon turned into a wonderful day strolling through the nearby Royal Parks, spotting parrots and pelicans before ducking into a café for a takeaway coffee as we meandered up The Mall to take in Buckingham Palace. Next up was a stroll through Hyde Park and into the shopping mecca that is Oxford Street before heading back for a quiet drink at the hotel’s bar – perfection! If you don’t get the best weather, though, the capital’s attractions are within easy reach on public transport – or you could just hunker down in your room and luxuriate in your newly wedded bliss.
