ho else can’t believe it’s springtime already? It’s such a special time of year and in 2022 we all get to appreciate it so much more given the last two we’ve spent locked up! I’m still coming back down to earth after issue 100 of Your Kent Wedding. It seems strange to be on the other side, but it’s exciting to make a start on the next 100 issues of wedspiration from real weddings and shoots, to expert advice and ideas. In my own wedding world, bride Melissa has been turning her attention to her best gals and we’ve now got our dresses, if not in our hands then on order. It was a bumpy ride, but thanks to Melissa’s unending patience, we got there. We’re now looking at the even more fun stuff such as accessories, shoes, hair and make-up, which has led myself, my fellow bridesmaids and the bride herself to ponder the matter of just whose job it is to foot the bill for the glam? This in no small part is due to the fact none of us seem able to get the lovely Melissa to take one single penny from us towards it. So, when Fragrance Direct told me they’d teamed up with wedding planer Hannah Rose to discuss just this matter, I was all ears! Thinking about the glam bill, Fragrance Direct asked Hannah whether it was the nearlyweds’ responsibility to pay for everyone or just themselves? She answered unequivocally, “Definitely everyone. If they’ve asked for people to be part of their day, the majority of the time this will fall to the couple to pay. Otherwise, their loved ones may be put off joining the wedding party. Some bridesmaids and groomsmen might be happy to contribute, but it’s always encouraged that the couple plan this into their budget and offer to pay for the basics such as hair and make-up if they want them to have it done. The cost will vary depending on the hair stylist and make-up artist, but I’d advise to allocate a minimum of £150-£200 per person for anyone who isn’t the bride or groom.” Check out www.fragrancedirect.co.uk/wedding-calculator for a helping hand with budgeting. So, there we have it. We shall immediately cease arguing with the bride and accept her kindness gracefully. I’ll leave you now to enjoy this issue. Enjoy and keeeep planning!

LOCAL NEWS HIGHLY COMMENDED
Orpington-based wedding celebrant, Rebecca McMonagle, professionally known as Bex the Celebrant, has received the highly commended accolade at The Wedding Industry Awards. This is an incredible achievement given she has only been qualified for a year. When Bex’s day job as a TV producer slowed down during lockdown 2020, she decided to use the time to develop a project close to her heart and trained as a wedding celebrant to bring a fun, personalised approach to the ceremonies of like-minded couples. She was delighted to have been nominated by one of her many newlyweds and was shortlisted by the judges as a regional nominee. She says, “My job is to give couples choice and show that their wedding ceremony doesn’t have to be with a traditional registrar or particularly religious, they can be fun, filled with laughter and personality. I’m so proud to have been recognised for the work I do and hopefully this will show others that there are different ways of personalising a wedding.” Find out more about www.bexthecelebrant.com

VA-VA-VROOM!
Set up during the course of various lockdowns, new kid on the block wedding transport supplier Driven Elegance offers beautiful classic cars, allowing couples to begin their nuptials in style. Owner Paul inherited some incredible vehicles, such as a Jaguar E-type, which has been in his family since new and has glamorously travelled through the Alps numerous times on its way to the Monaco Grand Prix – how very James Bond! It’s a very special example of its type and the company offers photo opportunities with this beauty, even if you don’t need transport for your big day. In fact any of the cars in the fleet, which also includes Ferraris, make for fantastic shots, perhaps for the groom and groomsmen pre-ceremony, or the bride and wedding party once everyone gets together. Your photographer may even choose to use a drone to follow the vehicles as they approach the venue, creating part of the story of your day. These classic cars bring out the best in any wedding location, contributing a luxury statement to proceedings. Driven Elegance also provides a premium chauffeur service. What’s more, this fab new supplier is currently offering a £50 discount on any bookings made and paid for before September 2022, so don’t delay! Find out more at https://drivenelegance.com

The Wedding Industry Awards are the only regional and national accolades voted for by customers rather than a panel. They were set up to recognise excellence within our beloved industry and the hard work suppliers put into bringing their couples’ big-day visions come to life, very often going above and beyond the call of duty. There are a whole host of Kent-based businesses taking home the gongs for the South East region, which makes us super-proud. CHANGE IS AFOOT
As 2022 arrived so did the builders at The BarnYard, as the venue embarks on another major improvement to its wedding offerings. And let us tell you, both existing and prospective couples are in for a real treat! The permanent marquee, which has been in situ in various forms for approximately 15 years is being completely renewed from the ground up. The existing structure will be treated to new ceiling panels and ceiling curtains, the plastic panelling at the sides are being replaced with bi-folding glass doors all the way around, and a new floor is being installed incorporating a built-in dancefloor. The bar has been dismantled and will be replaced with a new up-to-date version located next to the dancefloor with new lighting and décor. Click play or scan the QR code to see the diggers in action! The old mobile toilet block has been removed too and new modern loos are being built along with space for a lovely powder room. There are also plans to alter the bridal access pathway with gorgeous composite decorative fencing, structural planting and better lighting. What’s more, to celebrate the team have announced a very special offer. If you book any of the remaining available dates for 2022 you’ll be eligible for a 10 per cent discount off the total wedding catering package cost when you quote RENOVATION. You’ll find The Ferry House wedding venue secreted away beside the waters of the Swale estuary. This 16th-century former inn has been lovingly and carefully restored by the owners while preserving the building’s heritage and country character. The venue’s surroundings are a wild and wonderful blend of country and coastline. From the waterfront, dozens of little fleet rivers have carved their way into the meadows and swaying grasslands to create one of Kent’s most beautiful scenes. All of this coupled with the landscaped wedding garden with towering rose arch and the wild secret orchard make for effortlessly elegant photos. Ceremonies take place in The Oak Barn, which exudes rustic elegance with its high-vaulted ceiling, warm oak tones and a canopy of hops and fairylights. It can host 150 nearest and dearest. TURNER CONTEMPORARY
07970 938 887 | www.turnercontemporary.org/venue-hire Turner Contemporary’s distinctive modern architecture makes it one of the most recognisable buildings in Kent. Located on the edge of the harbour it has wide sweeping views across the beach, capturing the famous Margate sunset from the terrace and balcony. The hire spaces are white minimalist rooms with high ceilings, natural concrete floors and huge windows taking in the panoramic seascape. There’s ample scope for embellishment, but very little décor is needed to make your wedding setting stylish and impactful. There’s an outdoor terrace to the side of the main cafe, ideal for drinks receptions. Plus, the wide private balcony overlooking the sea, runs the full length of the venue, allowing guests to take the party outside. Ceremonies witnessed by up to 110 loved ones take place in The Clore Learning Studio facing the window, which provides an incredible view of
the scene beyond. The Foyle Rooms too can play host to the “I dos” when the former isn’t available, with a slightly larger capacity of 120. Mainly used for receptions though, the space boasts high ceilings, from which you can suspend hanging floral installations. What’s more, there’s a projector for speech slideshows and walls for decorating with photographs. After the wedding breakfast it can be turned around for evening dancing as guests mingle in the gallery for drinks. The Sunley Gallery is available to you once the gallery has closed to the public and offers beautiful sea views for you and 180 guests to enjoy. Here, the venue team can set up a bar and entertainment as requested. WE LOVE There are often art exhibitions occupying The Clore Learning Studio ceremony space, so its possible to experience the feeling of true immersion in the gallery. 25

ecky and Mike met at a friend’s 21st birthday party almost a decade ago. They discovered they were born on the same day of the same year in the same hospital, “So maybe our paths crossed way back then,” Becky says. Mike had originally planned to propose on a ski trip in March 2020, but as the country was plunged into the first lockdown at the time, the holiday was sadly cancelled. He still managed to keep his intentions quiet though and eventually succeeded in popping the question while on a break in The Cotswolds. During a beautiful autumnal walk from Stow-on-the-Wold to Boughtonon-the-Water, on a little bridge crossing a stream, right in the middle of nowhere, he asked Becky to be his wife. “We cried tears of joy – I’ve never been so surprised in my life, it was such a beautiful and happy time,” Becky says. The couple adored the rustic beauty of The Oak Barn, Frame Farm, with its bare beams, log burner and surrounding picturesque countryside. So, it was here they chose to tie the knot on 22nd October, 2021. Read on as bride Becky tells us all about the big day...
SETTING THE SCENE Becky and Mike chose an oh-so modern autumnal palette of navy and orange with natural greens, grasses and florals. They both love the season and chose the colours that come with it. For the centrepieces they used log slices arranged with dried orange slices, spray-painted gourds and clusters of vases in varying sizes, shapes and hues filled with eucalyptus, roses, bunny tails, pampas grass, thistles and white wax flowers. These were all created by Mike’s cousin, florist Gaby –it helps to have talent in the family! Meanwhile, Flower House and Home in Mayfield created gorgeous autumnal bouquets using a combination of fresh and dried flowers to complement the palette and add a pop of colour to the bridesmaids’ attire. As fans of travel the pair decided to display their framed scratch map on an easel and name the tables after their favourite places they’d visited together. The whimsical place names were handmade macrame feathers. The big-day bake was a rustic semi-naked sponge with white chocolate icing – the newlyweds’ favourite. It was adorned in bunny tails, eucalyptus and figs to complement the rest of the venue styling. Kitchen of Kent catered the main event and Becky says, “The food and service were outstanding, we couldn’t recommend them highly enough.” When it comes to special transport fit for a bride and groom, Becky and Mike opted for a super-cool red Morgan, which you can see gracing the cover of this issue. They left the church and travelled to the reception venue with the roof down and 31

the sun shining. En route they stopped at Mike’s grandmother’s care home to spend some time with her, as she’d watched the ceremony on Zoom. The car went down a treat with the other residents! Meanwhile, the bride tribe were driven to the venue in a red VW Campervan, which they decorated with chalk pen.
LOOKING THE PART Becky wore the beautiful Aaliyah by Justin Alexander. “It was utterly stunning and incredibly comfortable to wear, which was important to me as I wanted to feel confident and be able to dance,” she explains. “I tried on so many different styles, but knew this was the one as soon as I put it on. I cried, as did my mum and sister,” Becky continues. The bride accessorised with an ivory single-tier veil by Nieve Couture, showered in pearls, and to add a little sparkle, the look was completed with a tiara. She also wore the Clarette heels from Dune’s wedding shoe collection. “They were unbelievably comfortable and the subtle blue gem underneath each shoe was an added touch of detail that I loved,” Becky remembers. “Mike looked incredibly smart and handsome wearing traditional navy herringbone tails,” his bride tells us. He opted for tails since he wears suits to work and wanted something extra special for the big day. He also wore a navy England Rugby ball tie and a grey waistcoat. He finished the look with Mulberry cufflinks and a pair of black Church’s shoes. Mike’s groomsmen were dressed to match his attire and the bridesmaids wore navy single-shoulder textured-crepe maxi dresses with silver vegan sandals.
CELEBRATE IN STYLE Acoustic guitarist Rob Austen entertained guests during the ceremony as well as at the drinks reception. Then, in the evening, Mint DJs kept the dancefloor full. “We had a live saxophonist too who played alongside the DJ, which was absolutely epic.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS Becky says, “Our wedding day was filled with emotion for everyone, even more so because of the pandemic. It truly was the happiest day for us. Finally being declared Mr and Mrs Churchill was the most incredible feeling. We’re so thankful to everyone who helped us to create our perfect wedding day. It really was an outstanding team effort.” Following the big day, the newlyweds set off on mini-moon to Bath, then Foxhill Manor in The Cotswolds for a luxurious few days of celebration. “We can’t wait to travel to the Maldives next year,” Becky tells us. 33

ince Paige’s sister and Ben’s brother are a couple, the pair knew of each other but had never met until a family gathering. Although, they’d kept their distance from each other Paige had nevertheless caught Ben’s eye and he asked his brother, Lee, for her number. “I played hard to get for a while but eventually gave in and we went on our first date,” Paige tells us. We fast forward five years to Mexico, where the pair were on holiday. Ben says, “I’d always worried about where I wanted to ask Paige to marry me and had the ring prepared as I knew it was only a matter of time. When we arrived in Mexico, we were told a meal could be arranged on the lake in our own private hut and straight away
alarm bells rung – I knew this was the place. A sunset, amazing food and the woman of my dreams all made me the happiest man alive.” As a wedding photographer, Paige had been to plenty of weddings at many a venue and knew she didn’t want a traditional day. “I worked at Marleybrook House in 2019 and fell in love with the venue, mainly the fun fair. So we started putting the day together from there,” Paige explains. The twosome have similar interests so when it came down to the finer details everything ran smoothly. They opted for a baby blue palette complemented by neutral hues. Join us as Paige gives us the lowdown on W-day, 21st August, 2021... 37

Childhood SWEETHEARTS Having met at school Scarlett and Dan have shared a lifetime of love and here they tell us about the celebration of their next new adventure: marriage Images courtesy of Florence Berry Photography
S
eated alongside one another during their first days at secondary school, Scarlett and Dan were instructed to find out facts about each other – eye colour, height, likes and dislikes, favourite TV programmes and so on. Following this initial encounter as new classmates they soon became fast friends and eventually Dan convinced Scarlett to go on a date. They went to the park then on to Macdonald’s to share a large portion of fries – a classic teenage love story! “As is the case with most high school romances, it wasn’t all smooth sailing from there, but we’ve been a constant in each other’s lives for the 15 years that followed,” Scarlett shares. When Dan booked a table for dinner at their favourite teenage date-night spot, Scarlett wasn’t too impressed. They’d recently bought their first house an hour’s drive from where they’d grown up, so it seemed a long way to go for dinner, when there were plenty of local eateries just begging to be explored. Nevertheless, the trek became well worth it when Dan got down on one knee after the main course to cheers and claps from the restaurant staff. “It was a really intimate, personal moment,” Scarlett remembers. The couple spent a lot of time exploring woodland and other outdoor spaces while dating as teenagers and still enjoy long walks together as they’ve continued their lives together. So, an outdoor ceremony space was important to them. Despite visiting a number of venues around Kent, none had every element they were looking for. Luckily, before despair set in, The Oak Grove in Sittingbourne was recommended to them and they fell in love with it in a heartbeat, booking the wedding date, 31st July 2021, after the first viewing. Read on as at the bride shares her happy memories of the big day... 43
We donated to four charities that were important to us: British Heart Foundation, British Lung Foundation, Breast Cancer UK and Mind and every guest had a charity pin beside their name card. I spoke about this during the speeches, which was an emotional part of the day. Our guests wore the pins with pride and swapped amongst themselves to honour those who couldn’t be with us as well as for their own personal reasons.
We wanted a sociable and relaxed vibe to the day, so we had our tables arranged banqueting-style in long lines. Our place names, table plan, table names, invitations and all other stationery was designed to tie in beautifully with our palette and rustic woodland theme.
Our beautiful semi-naked wedding cake was decorated with fresh fruit and flowers. It was delicious, stunning and a surprise for both of us from a close family friend.
During the ring exchange, the registrar accidentally said the best man’s name instead of Dan’s. So I could have married Ed instead!
We kept our centrepieces minimal. They featured gypsophila and foliage and complemented the look and feel of my bouquet and the bridesmaids’.
We wanted our table names to be personal and reflect something about us and our relationship, so we chose names of fictional worlds that we’d enjoyed together and added a quote from the novel or film they featured in. We had Asgard, Wuthering Heights, Forks, Tatooine, Sunnydale, Vaes Dothrak and Middle Earth.
We knew as soon as we saw our venue that we wanted relaxed barbecue-style dining. Tim at Blue Egg Catering provided the most amazing selection of food as well as cooking an absolutely massive paella that fed all 124 guests. 44
REAL WEDDING
We had a lot of different activities and entertainment throughout the day from axe-throwing with an instructor straight after the ceremony to a live band and cocktails in the evening.
I tried on a few different gowns but fell in love with the beautiful petal details of Stephanie Allin’s Monroe. I loved the movement and freedom of some designs that featured a side split though, so I had it customised slightly to include one.
The bridesmaids all chose the same dress, a teal floor-length, A-line silhouette with a silk-tie waist detail and keyhole opening at the back.
“Make sure the people you choose to have around you on the day are the ones who’ll make you happy and share in the fun and joy. Don’t feel obliged to involve certain people due to family and friend politics.” – Scarlett
Dan wore a classic black tuxedo with a waistcoat. His groomsmen wore the same, but accessorised with braces rather than a waistcoat.
45
I’d actually thought that the ceremony would be the boring bit and that we’d enjoy the rest of the day far more, but in reality it was our favourite moment along with the first dance. On both occasions we really felt as though we were the only two people around.
Every one of our suppliers made our day what it was, we couldn’t have had the absolute dream of a wedding without any of them. A special mention should go to our photographer though, as sneaking away for photos on our own at various points throughout the day and evening meant we got some amazing alone-time together, as well as the beautiful shots she captured of these moments.
Make some time just for the two of you, rather than spending the day feeling the need to entertain everyone. If you’ve planned a day that you’ll find fun, exciting and special, your guests will enjoy it on their own. After all, your wedding day is about the two of you.

hoot coordinator Emma Edenden of White Petal Cakes tells us, “Growing up I loved watching The Secret Garden and even today it’s a film I’m still passionate about. So, when deciding on a theme for the shoot, it was an easy decision.” She came across the Secret Garden in Mersham Le Hatch, Ashford when looking for a wedding-venue location and everything naturally fell into place. Beneath the delightful little wooden pagoda, surrounded by a slew of wild flowers, Emma’s vision for an intimate wedding came to life. She chose tones of pink and blue for the palette, along with romantic soft pastels to accentuate it. 49

MAKE IT PERSONAL
Let’s get creative
Kent’s wedding suppliers tell us how to personalise a wedding day the creative way
de Handma FUN FOR ALL
K
ent’s wedding suppliers are an imaginative bunch, so when we asked them to tell us how they’d go about making any wedding a truly personal experience for their couples they rose to the occasion. Here, we introduce you the county’s creative geniuses.
Crazygolf4u is a small family business and everything is designed and built in a small workshop in owner Paul’s back garden. All of the crazy golf courses and obstacles are handmade using recycled or sustainably-sourced timber. You can hire up to nine holes of crazy golf for your wedding including wedding-themed obstacles such as the oh-so cute chapel. CONTACT Paul Havell, Crazygolf4u www.crazygolf4u.co.uk
LOOK TO THE SKIES The team at Blue Sky China and Bunting like nothing more than designing stunning ceiling décor installations. Michelle Fisher says, “Paper lanterns are a wonderful, creative way to bring the wow factor to all weddings. We work closely with our couples on the design of their installation to create just the impact they’re after.” Lanterns come in a vast array of colours and sizes meaning the team can create beautiful displays to coordinate with any theme. Choose vibrant, multi-coloured lanterns for festival weddings or soft pastels to create a more romantic feel. You can also customise the design to suit the vibe of your venue, from large lanterns with hanging flowers along the centre of a marquee, to lanterns of various sizes spaced out amongst the beautiful beams of an old barn ceiling. There are so many ways to work with them to ensure your display is totally unique to you and fits with the individual look and feel of your wedding.

FLORALLY FABULOUS Sam and her team at Emily&Me know that everyone is an individual so they don’t have any set packages. From choosing each flower to creating hand-dyed ribbons, they aim to create a bespoke experience for each of their couples. Sam explains, “We can commission ironwork to create amazing structures for billowing arches, add your special keepsakes to bouquets and buttonholes and source glassware and props for a setup designed around you.” Where you met, your jobs, loves, hobbies – these elements can all be reflected in your flowers. Think Lego in your table centres or your great granny’s locket attached to your bouquet. Whatever is special to you, it can be incorporated into your day. What’s more, you can talk to Sam about having your big-day blooms preserved in resin after the wedding allowing them to stay beautiful forever. THE SOUND OF MUSIC Stereo Twins are a British string duo: professionally trained musicians and twin sisters Natalie and Stephanie Cavey who both studied violin and viola at the Royal Academy of Music in London. They blend a fresh twist of contemporary pop and classical music with their own virtuosic playing style and have played with some of the world’s most successful acts such as Adele, Ariana Grande, Muse, Beyonce, Calvin Harris, Pink, Rita Ora and Noel Gallagher to name but a few. The duo provide a thrilling live show to complement your big day from ceremony to reception. They can perform as an electric violin duo, playing popular songs to track or as an acoustic violin duo. The ladies can personalise their repertoire for you by taking requests as well as learning any song that’s special to you for your wedding day, perhaps as you walk down the aisle or sign the register. CONTACT Natalie Cavey, Stereo Twins, www.stereotwins.com
INTIMATE VOWS Celebrant Deborah Johnstone says, “As a celebrant I have no constraints or restrictions, plus I tend to be quite imaginative and fun.” Your ceremony will be something you’ll contribute to for a personalised, magical and fun moment no one will forget. Deborah’s job is to listen, encourage you to think outside the box and suggest suitable ways you can include any symbolism that’s important to you, which may stem from spiritual beliefs or something deeply personal to you both Deborah continunes, “Have you always imagined exchanging vows beneath bunting in a woodland, on the Kent coast hearing waves lap the shore, or festival-style in a field? Do you envision people moved to tears of joy or of laughter? Have you dreams of your child being involved, surprising guests with something fun or personal, or incorporating a theme you both love? If this sounds like you and your heart wants to lead the way to an intimate, personal and awesome wedding, as a professional celebrant I follow your lead. I spend hours getting to know you both, which helps us a create a ceremony that avoids (yawn) template services and lets you share an intimate declaration of love.” CONTACT Deborah Johnstone, Embrace Celebrancy www.embracecelebrancy.co.uk 54

With a love of the Caribbean and all things tropical, Becky at Waves Weddings and Events specialises in beautiful coastal weddings in stunning locations. So, we asked her: Just how do we bring a touch of the tropics to Kent? Here’s her handy guide: ❤ Pick a lovely seaside location. Kent boasts some amazing beaches from the magic of Margate to the quirkiness of Whitstable. I’ll always be able to suggest suitable venues to work with your style and theme, whether it’s somewhere vintage and fun like Dreamland or something modern and unique such as the Turner Contemporary. ❤ Have a blessing on the beach. There are some amazing celebrants in the industry who can plan the perfect ceremony. ❤ Get creative with your suppliers and choose people who can help bring your ideas to life. Find a florist who can provide an array of tropical blooms, have a stylist or prop supplier theme the wedding with tropical items. Select stationery with a twist and choose a caterer who can offer Caribbean dining or similar, think jerk chicken, lobster and rum punch. ❤ Hire a steel or reggae band for the entertainment. ❤ Make sure the all-important dress reflects a more casual boho-style and definitely wear some of those beautiful tropical flowers in your hair. E F is for ECO-FRIENDLY One way to make your big-day dining sustainable is to opt for biodegradable dinnerware if you’re eating al fresco or in a buffet-style setting. Look for ethically-sourced and environmentally friendly materials such as bamboo, wood, paper or plant-based compostable products. It’s also worth checking out your venue’s policy on recycling.

is for KNOWLEDGE The benefits of consulting a professional can never be underestimated. Whether it’s your venue’s recommended caterer or one you’ve sourced for yourself, they’ll work closely with you to create the menu of your dreams. They’re a fount of all wisdom when it comes to your wedding breakfast, so don’t be afraid to ask them anything. The team at Invicta Food Design believe that the food and drink at your wedding is as important as the dress, suit, venue styling or honeymoon. They understand everything from time-honoured traditions to original twists and love rising to the challenge of any unusual requests. The caterer’s extensive professional experience means your day will be tailored to your specific requirements, so you can relax, leaving the team to deliver your dream wedding breakfast and more. To complete the day, you’re also offered a selection of linen, crockery, cutlery and glassware as well as the highly-trained service crew. Invicta Food Design’s packages and menus can be downloaded at www.invictafooddesign.com
M
is for LATE The wedding breakfast can end up being served quite late in the day by the time you’ve said “I do,” and popped off for your photographs. So, to prevent your loved ones flagging, ensure there are plenty of delicious canapés on hand for the drinks reception. A selection of five to six is a good guide and we love the idea of mini fish ‘n’ chip cones or warming bitesize pies for the winter.
is for MOBILE BAR The choices are practically endless with more fun and fab ideas cropping up all the time. We love horsebox bars that serve speciality tipples such as an array of gins or prosecco for your post-vow reception. Check out www.doublebubblebar.com
is for NO WASTAGE Food wastage at weddings is a huge issue, so find out if your venue is signed up to a scheme such as Too Good To Go (https://toogoodtogo.org) that connects its app users to businesses that have surplus food, allowing it to be enjoyed rather than wasted. If not, you could consider donating any leftovers to the local food bank.

is for ORIGIN Some venues grow their own herbs and vegetables and many caterers will support local farmers by using their meat and produce. Serving locally-sourced food at your wedding not only adds to the ambience, but also supports the community, ensures quality and offers sustainability by reducing the miles it’s had to travel.
is for QUICHE Buffets are still the most popular option for an evening feast. If that conjures up less than appetising images of quiche and sandwiches for you, fear not. The modern buffet is a thing of beauty with options like street food stations, tapas, sausage sarnies and mini sliders. Check out https://touchays.com

is for SEASONAL If you’re stuck for what to serve tailoring your menu according to the season is always a lovely way to go. Think fresh flavours in the summer or warming comfort food for the winter. You could even offer Christmas pud for dessert with gingerbread favours at your festive nuptials.
is for TRADITIONAL Have a think about the ambience you’re trying to create and that’ll steer you towards a dining style. Is an elegant, more traditional seated three-course dining experience your thing, or do you dream of a relaxed boho-vibe with food trucks or table plan-free grazing?
U
is for UNDERNEATH THE ARCHES Whatever food option you go for, make it beautiful! Ceremony arches can be moved and utilised in your reception space – they provide a stylish backdrop for any food, dessert or cake table for example.
W
Y
is for YORKSHIRE PUDDING The idea of a wedding carvery fills us with joy! Everyone will be delighted by a roast dinner and you also have that added element of interaction and entertainment as designated guests carve at the table in chef’s hat and pinny.
V
is for VEGETARIAN and VEGAN One stress-free way to ensure all dietary needs are catered for is to create an inclusive menu with options to suit everyone. The days of bland and uninspiring vegetarian food are long gone. Alternatively, offer dishes with an interchangeable element should someone need a vegan or dairy-free option, that way you can still have your dream menu with just a few switches. Talk to your caterer about your requirements as they’re sure to have the inspiration and expertise to pull it off.
is for WORLD CUISINE Spice up your life with an exciting international menu. If you love overseas travel and want the all-important meal to reflect this, talk to your caterer about serving your favourite world cuisine. Your wedding will be the talk of the town!
X
is for X MARKS THE SPOT Don’t forget to incorporate catering options into your RSVPs. Your caterer will need to know of any food intolerances or dietary requirements ahead of time when tailoring your menu.
Z
is for ZOOM It’s important to meet with your wedding caterer ahead of time and work together to plan the perfect feast. If face-to-face meetings are still an issue, or distance is a factor, most will offer a virtual catch up, so there’s no excuse! 67

SELF-RAISING FLOWER We love flowers and want to incorporate them into our cake design. What do you recommend we look for?
https://rebeccacarpenterphotography.com
Incorporating flowers into your wedding cake design is the perfect way to seamlessly tie your big-day bake into the overall feel and style of your day. As a sugar-flower specialist, 95 per cent of the wedding cakes I make have some floral elements, all made from sugar to match my couples’ flowers – they’re my favourite thing to create. Choosing sugar flowers for your cake, rather than fresh flowers, gives your cake designer more flexibility to create something truly bespoke as the sugar blooms will be made in sizes and compositions to fit your bake perfectly. Sugar flowers also make ideal keepsakes, as they’ll last indefinitely. What’s more, there are no seasonal restrictions with these. So, if your favourite flowers aren’t in season at the time of your wedding, having them created in sugar is the perfect way to ensure you can have your beloved blooms in your favourite colour on your wedding day. Another popular trend at the moment, which I love, is the use of edible flowers. I use fresh, organic, edible flowers to create pressed flower designs – a beautiful way to bring a floral element to your wedding cake. Chelsea Prior | www.chelseabuns.co.uk
YOUR PERFECT MATCH

We’re searching for a wedding photographer and don’t know where to start. What do we need to know when looking and booking? I’ve been in the industry for more than 20 years and the way to find your photographer has changed so much over the years. You have a lot of options, but the easiest way is to use a search engine and look for “wedding photographer Kent.” You’ll then have several decisions to make from there. Recommendations from your chosen venue are always useful as they’ll be the ones who know the best places to shoot on the day, but it’s not always necessary and you may find a photographer whose personality just suits yours. This is an important part of your decision-making as you don’t want a grumpy photographer with you for nine hours of this most wonderful day! Social media and websites have to be the most utilised methods of deciding on a photographer, and again it’s a reflection of style and personality. You should ask prospective photographers about their experience, style, awards, knowledge of the venue and view the wealth of images on their website. You’ll get a sense from this of whether they’ve shot at a lot of different venues and how experienced they are. Finally, you’ll get a feel for your photographer and know they’re going to capture those images that make you say “wow,” and sum up your day perfectly. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER I just don’t seem to be able to find the right necklace and earrings to complement my heavily embellished gown. What styles would you suggest I look for? Every bride should remember not to overdo the jewellery, allowing it to steal their shine. Try choosing something subtle, yet beautiful. Understanding your neckline is important, as is the hairstyle you’ve chosen. For example, if you’re wearing a dress with an asymmetric neckline, perhaps it’s best not to wear a necklace at all. While off-the-shoulder and plunging necklines accommodate a necklace very well. If the dress is already embellished, a simple diamond solitaire pendant or single pearl drop is more than enough. Plain diamond stud earrings go well with any hairstyle, representing a classy look. Or again, a pearl stud with a diamond accent will always complement any look. Finally, I’d advise you to buy jewellery you can wear again. Investing in classic pieces over costume jewellery means you’ll continue to be reminded of your wedding day for years to come as you’ll get more use from it over time.

wedding-day clutch bags are a fabulous alternative to a traditional bouquet for the modern bridesmaid. Covered in organic, textured moss they’re adorned with the prettiest scented fresh flowers in your colour choice, as well as foliage. A beautiful alternative with endless possibilities.

lampshades and dotting around brass candlesticks would add an ancient castle vibe just like Hogwarts. Adding hints of inspiration is a subtle way of reflecting the theme of your wedding without making it the entire focal point. Don’t try to match every detail exactly, just have fun with it. Recreating the floating candles from the Great Hall would be my first idea! We hire out LED taper candles, which can be suspended from a frame or from the ceiling using invisible wire. As they’re LED they’re perfectly safe and would create a magical ambience perfect for the wedding breakfast. Meanwhile, hanging our “you are magic” neon sign behind the top table would add a modern touch to the Wizarding World theme. Another idea would be to create a seating area of a photo booth area inspired by the Gryffindor common room. Our vintage sofas and rugs in shades of red and gold would work perfectly. Other houses and sofa colours are available of course! Also, suspending gold vintage

Iconic Italian luxury tailored menswear brand Canali, has opened it’s flagship store in London. Located on the corner of New Bond Street and Brooks Street, conceived by the strategic design studio Hangar Design Group, the interior brings together the aesthetic style of the Canali fashion house and Milan. Q&A
Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals IN A TIGHT SPOT STEP UP
I’ve collected my dress and it’s too small! Is there anything that can be done? What’s the alterations process?
Tracy says: There are a few options in this case, it all depends on the style and your preference. Seam allowances vary from designer to designer, but mostly there’s enough to allow them to be adjusted for a little extra room and comfort. If it’s the top that’s too small, again depending on style and structure, we can change a zip fastening to a half or full corset style, allowing more room and adjustability. Should neither of these routes be suitable however, there is the more drastic option of adding full-length panels, either to the sides or back of your dress. This is going to change the style slightly, but we try to keep it as near to the original silhouette as possible, unless you previously agree a redesign. The alterations process involves an individual consultation, during which we’ll ask you to put your dress on to see the fit and discuss alterations required. At the end of the appointment a price will be confirmed and further appointments made. The future dates will be to ensure the agreed alterations are still required and to check that your size hasn’t drastically changed, as well as to make sure any work already done is suitable. Finally, we’ll check the length of the dress and that all details are sitting correctly. Once the final fitting is complete, we’ll steam your gown so it’s ready for you to step into on your big day and collection or delivery will be arranged.
UP DO DILEMMA
I need some ideas for a bridal up-do for my spring wedding – what can you suggest? Alex says: Up dos are a key style for spring weddings, and can take so many different shapes from a loose bun and romantic curls, to thick chunky plaits. All options are very versatile and can be used on a variety of hair types. Once you have the dress, you need to find that hairstyle, the one that will enhance the beauty of your gown. Dress, hair and accessories should all work in harmony to achieve a chic look. There are several factors to take into account when choosing your up do. For example, are you going to have a headdress and how many hours do you need your style to last? There’s no point choosing something that looks amazing when you walk down the aisle, but won’t look as fabulous by the time you greet the evening guests. Finally, when you’ve decided on the look you want, gaze in the mirror and ask yourself: “Do I feel confident, do I feel beautiful?”

I’ve bought a dress with no detailing and am now worried it’s too plain. How can I add the wow factor to it? Victoria says: To start with, let’s look at the dress itself. It’s not uncommon for the bride to tweak the design of her gown at the alterations stage, so you could add a sparkly belt, or more beading or lace, depending on the style you’re looking for. Alternatively, for an on-trend look, why not include a detachable skirt or train for two silhouettes in one? The Abella Collection for example has lots of detachable skirts to suit plenty of dresses. We even have brides adding sparkly sleeves or customising layers of their skirts with glittery tulle. Our advice on this would be to discuss your options with your stylist or seamstress, as I predict there’ll be many depending on the dress! If you don’t want to adapt the gown itself, let’s talk accessories. Thanks to recent celebrity weddings, veils are longer than ever, so why not add your own lace or sparkly, showstopping version? Our Jasmine dress from the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Collection may not be plain, but its matching veil adds drama for that wow-factor photo opportunity. If you’re thinking you might not keep your veil in all day, you’re right! So, a sparkly hairpiece, oversized floral hair crown or even a bridal hat will add something special long into the evening and keeping your bridal style right on trend.

It doesn’t claim to be a miracle worker but my mature skin soaked it up without leaving a trace and although I can’t report that my dark spots have disappeared, it has certainly made a difference. My skin already appears more even with a healthier glow so I’ll definitely be sticking with it!”– Sarah Reeve ROC MULTI CORREXION HYDRATE + PLUMP SERUM CAPSULES £35.99 for 30, www.feelunique.com “Using one serum capsule every night for a week so far has made my skin feel soft and smooth. It’s helped solve my dry-skin problem and given me a glowing complexion. Each capsule provided more than enough product to cover my face and I even had enough excess to use on my hands, which also suffer.” – Melissa Barker
TRIED & TESTED
OLE HENRIKSEN DEWTOPIA 20% ACID NIGHT TREATMENT £49 (30ml), www.boots.com “I’m thrilled with this night serum. Each morning I wake up and feel a difference to my skin. Containing a powerful 20 per cent acid blend, it’s certainly helped minimise my pores and gives my skin the radiance it had previously been lacking.” – Rachel Westall
INSTITUT ESTHEDERM INTENSIVE HYALURONIC SERUM £52 (30ml), www.feelunique.com “I’ve been suffering from dry skin lately, so I grabbed this little beauty as soon as I saw it. It sinks into the skin at breakneck speed, with no unpleasant residue whatsoever and leaves it feeling nourished, plumped and smooth. I’ve noticed an improvement in my makeup application already.” – Kelly Andrews 97

Here come the girls County Wedding Magazines senior editor Melissa Barker shares her wedding planning journey
I
can’t believe that in just a few months time I’ll officially become Mrs Cullen – eek! Dave and I have been engaged since Christmas Day 2020 and are due to get married this July. With all of the uncertantity surrounding COVID-19 restrictions, it’s been quite a stressful journey. However, now that the date is drawing closer I’m finally starting to feel excited. In this issue, read all about my experience going shopping for the bridesmaids’ dresses.
DRESSED TO IMPRESS
a Monday when it was quieter and I’m so glad we did! The consultant was absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. She made Kelly feel amazing and we didn’t feel pressured at all. With no time constraint, Kelly was able to try on every dress that caught her eye – it was a struggle to choose just one, she looked and felt stunning in them all. She eventually chose the same dress as Olivia, and in my humble (non-biased) opinion, they all look fabulous and I can’t wait to walk down the aisle with my beautiful friends. Overall, shopping together was a nice experience and it was great spending time with the girls, but I’d definitely recommend that fellow brides-to-be start shopping for dresses sooner rather than later – particularly if you have got quite a few bridesmaids! I also can’t stress enough to avoid popular visiting times at your chosen boutiques. It will create a completely different experience and ensured everyone feels relaxed and can enjoy it. Check out the next issue where I’ll be discussing our search for the groomsmen’s outfits and a last-minute videographer.

Choosing who I wanted to be my bridesmaids was one of the easiest decisions I had to make. My sister-in-law, Nolwenn, has been part of the family for a few years now and I really wanted to involve her in our day, so I was pleased when she wanted to be one of my bridesmaids! I also asked my two best friends and fellow County Wedding Magazines editors, Kelly and Olivia, who were over the moon when I asked them (virtually) during one of the many lockdowns. With the easy bit done, we were on to the task of choosing their bridesmaids’ dresses. With conflicting schedules and unpredictable restrictions it was hard to decide on a date that worked for everyone but we were eventually able to book an appointment for the beginning of December 2021. Shopping for their outfits was one of the things I was most excited about when we got
engaged. I love all the girls dearly and really wanted them to feel special and a part of our big day, so making sure that they were comfortable was my number one priority. I wanted them to choose their own style and the only thing I asked was that all the dresses were sage green, which worked out perfectly as the girls all love that colour – it was meant to be! We booked a Saturday appointment and oh my gosh it was busy! The girls had to share a changing room and only managed to try on a handful of dresses before our time was up. What shocked us all was just how long the dresses take to come into the store. Starting our shopping eight months early we all thought we’d have plenty of time to shop around, but we found that all of the gowns wouldn’t be in the store until early May 2022, which would only leave us with two months for alterations – this of course, sent my stress levels through the roof! Despite all of the craziness and the insane amount of people in the boutique, Olivia and Nolwenn both managed to find their dresses on that first visit; Nolwenn opted for a sleeveless A-line gown and Olivia chose a similar style but with floaty off-the-shoulder straps. Kelly and I both felt overwhelmed by the first appointment, and sadly she came away empty handed, so we decided to go back on

Here are some things that we’ve learned during wedding planning.
BRIDE’S DIARY
VENUE
PHOTOGRAPHER
❤ Make sure a registrar or celebrant is available on your wedding day before confirming with the venue. ❤ Find out what is and what isn’t included in the booking price. ❤ Check whether your venue has any sound limiters or a curfew in place. ❤ Ensure the venue has liability insurance in case the worst was to happen. ❤ How will the venue handle poor weather or last-minute changes? ❤ Before booking, check the venue’s COVID-19 policies.
❤ If like me, you’re nervous or unsure in front of the camera book a prewedding shoot – it really does make a difference. ❤ Before booking, decide on what style of photography you like and set a budget. ❤ Lots of photographers don’t have prices stated on their website; find five you like and email them all asking for quotes so that you can compare. ❤ Find out how many images you’ll be receiving and how long your photographer will spend with you on the day. ❤ Most suppliers will require a meal, so factor that into your catering budget and check if they have any dietary requirements. ❤ You’ll be spending a large portion of the day with your photographer, so it’s important you get on well, and they make you feel relaxed.
FLOWERS ❤ Some flowers are seasonal and may not be available at the time of year you’re getting married, so be prepared to discuss this with your florist. ❤ Your supplier will have a wealth of knowledge and will be able to advise you on what blooms will suit your day. ❤ Check your quotes include VAT. ❤ Think carefully about if you’d like real or dried flowers. If you’re unsure it may be worth talking to a few different companies to discuss the pros and cons. ❤ Your florist should suggest ways you can save money, for example, re-using blooms from your ceremony for the reception. ❤ There are so many ways that you can preserve your flowers after the wedding, so it’s worth looking at your options.
WEDDING DRESS ❤ Try on a variety of styles to find what best suits your shape. ❤ Trust your bridal consultant and listen to their recommendations, after all, they’re the experts. ❤ Choose a dress that you feel comfortable in and makes you feel like the best version of yourself. ❤ Wear white or skin-coloured underwear to your appointment. ❤ Start shopping nine to 12 months before the wedding to ensure you have plenty of time to get the gown in-store and alterations to be done. ❤ The shopping process can be daunting, so don’t feel pressured to purchase a dress for the sake of it, when you find the right gown, you’ll know it. 99

ESTAMINE Possibly the Algarve’s best kept secret – an incredible restaurant located on Isla Deserta, only accessible by boat. Few places come close to this family-run gem, where you can enjoy fresh fish and seafood along with other Algarvian specialities on your very own deserted island with 360 degree ocean views. When seen from above, the restaurant itself takes the shape of a crab among the sand dunes, an architectural tribute to their neighbours scuttling along the shoreline. Clams ‘Bulhao Pato-style’, prawns, deep fried in a delicious secret spice and its charcoal grilled catch of the day, simply can’t be beaten. Visit: www.ilhadeserta.com/estamine-restaurant

BOVINO Bovnio Steakhouse can be found within Quinta do Lago itself and serves some of the finest steaks and wines around along with an apothecarythemed cocktail menu. The best moments in life are the ones we least expect! Choosing the right videographer is a key decision when planning your wedding and I believe you should, firstly, lean towards a style of videography that makes you stop in your tracks and secondly, find someone you feel comfortable working with. I’m a sociable guy and like to keep things fun and less staged so that the work I produce is more natural. My main goal as a videographer is to use my talent to showcase the raw emotion behind each event in an artistic and appealing way. I have a huge passion for capturing the love and emotion that only a wedding day can bring out of us all. I love working with fun and down to earth couples who want to let the day unfold as it was meant to, authentic and totally you. As a wedding videographer I am also a qualified drone pilot, which will allow me to capture your wedding day not just from the ground but from the air too. With my experience and the positive feedback I’ve received from past work, I’m confident that I’ll do an excellent job covering your special day.
