MAGICAL MENUS

Nickynoo Quirky Mobile Bars has revamped its cocktail list and added some drinks suggested by its followers on social media; it includes espresso martinis using O’Donnell Moonshine which the company has started to stock. It’s no wonder that the business won North England Prestige Awards – Wedding Planners of the Year! Sourcing local produce is essential for the team, which is why they introduced more local gins and spirits including St Mary’s Gin and Vodka, which is distilled in the heart of North Tyneside. This will go in Nickynoo Quirky Mobile Bars vintage gin suitcase that presents some of its local gins complemented by the substantial range of tonics and garnishes. Another new addition is Dennhofer Wine, a local wine supplier, allowing the business to cater for a large range of budgets. The company is now also running a competition on social media to name one of the new cocktails on the quirky cocktail menu – the winner will get a complimentary bottle of O’Donnell Moonshine. Live piano is a wonderful way to ‘turn melodies into memories’ on any wedding day, says Ray Snowdon at Ray’s Piano. The company is happy to announce its 20 per cent discount off the All Day Wedding Bundle until Sunday 14th February 2021 to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Location, location, location

The team at The Barn on The Bay have embraced the challenges that COVID-19 brings and have taken steps to ensure that couples can still have the wedding of their dreams! To achieve this, the venue has changed its layout to make sure that everyone can feel safe when the big day comes around. Seating booths have been introduced so that people can sit within their bubble without worrying about others getting too close. The latest technology has been introduced and there’s now an app that allows guests to order and pay for drinks from the comfort of their table – no more queueing at the bar! Micro weddings are a big thing at The Barn on The Bay, even before any regulations took place. This has made it easier for the team to adapted ready for this winter by dividing the area into smaller cosy spaces that can be used at different times throughout the day. At times like this, working as a team becomes more important than ever. With this in mind, the venue recently launched The Winter Lovers Club, a collaboration between a small group of hand-picked local suppliers that celebrate two things: the love of two people and the beauty of winter. The enchanting wedding package is perfect for winter-loving couples who are seeking an intimate celebration without all of the fuss and flamboyance of a larger affair. This exciting opportunity starts from December 2020 with a wedding party for 15 people in a choice of intimate spaces; couples could be saying their vows within 30 days if given enough notice. THE PERFECT DAY

Langley Castle Hotel is now offering bubble domes to allow for a safe environment to enjoy a wonderful time with loved ones in the grounds with the castle as your backdrop. These domes have heating and lighting and are perfect for the special day or wedding breakfast. If brides are looking for somewhere to hold a hen do, look no further as what could be better than an afternoon tea, relaxation time or just having fun over a bottle of Prosecco – the possibilities are endless? With COVID-19 affecting many couples, the venue has made its tier system to correspond with the government guidelines; in the castle’s Tier One, the team can only have a ceremony with a maximum of 15 guests, Tier Two allows a ceremony can take place (15 people) and the pair will be given champagne hamper to celebrate back at home, Tier Three is only achievable if restrictions allow it. In this section, the ceremony will be able to take place, a takeaway champagne hamper will be given and an overnight stay is offered which includes dinner, bed and breakfast. Langley’s Margaret Livingstone Evans says, “I couldn’t see couples have their marriage dreams ripped up again, so I spoke to the registrars to see what could be done, rather than what could not. This is not about Langley making money, as we will earn virtually nothing from this. What it is about is going the extra mile for people who are in love and want to be together in this most difficult year.” To top things off, the venue has won two Northern Marketing Awards for 2020 including Best PR Campaign and Best Tourism & Leisure Campaign. EDITOR LOVES It’s so lovely when four-legged friends are included in a wedding day and that’s why I’m obsessed with this stunning shoot which showcases this little one rocking a floral collar created by The Bridal Bloom Company (www.facebook.com/thebridalbloom). This little touch will melt all your guests’ hearts and will look incredible in photos. Who wouldn’t want their best furry friend at their side on one of the most important days of their life? The group of suppliers worked hard to create this luxurious and stylish day, even if their original plans changed a few times due to COVID-19. Check out the shoot on page 40, you won’t be disappointed!

Rebecca and Reece treasured their intimate and emotional wedding at Beamish Hall Images by Pennick Photography

ebecca and Reece were first introduced through a friend and the rest is history! Overtime it became apparent that the two had something special and they shared so many lovely moments, celebrations and dreams together. Rebecca says, “I started to feel like without Reece I wouldn’t be me, he’s such an inspiring person and makes my life so much better. We slowly morphed into a team and started to achieve things we never thought we would and reached most of our life goals at such a young age – you can’t do that with just anyone.” Reece popped the question to Rebecca in their new house on the 30th June 2017. She says, “I opened the door and started walking around not knowing Reece was on one knee in the doorway. I was so shocked I didn’t even give him an answer, but he knew I would never say no.” Their wedding date was set for September 21st 2019, and this is how they celebrated this new chapter in their lives...

SETTING THE SCENE When it came to finding the perfect wedding location, the couple had visited multiple venues but couldn’t find the one. That was until they saw Beamish Hall during a wedding fayre and instantly fell in love with its stunning grounds and intimate locations. Rebecca says, “The décor was very much our style and I wanted to bring our guests on a journey with our theme and create an emotional rollercoaster.” The pair had white and blush lanterns hanging from the ceiling, a light curtain behind the top table and pillars dressed in ivy and lights to incorporate their desired look. Each centrepiece consisted of tall vases with twigs and orchids sat on a mirror with three tealights and clear crystals hanging down to add to the romantic atmosphere. The table plan, table names and place numbers were all supplied by the venue. The couple love dogs and decided to donate to the Dogs Trust, each guest received a pin badge with a sticker saying, ‘With love and thanks to Mr & Mrs Kay 21.09.2019’. All the children received a colouring book, a game and some bubbles. The flowers looked incredible and included eucalyptus, phalaenopsis, passionflower, white roses and flowering jasmine. Rebecca adds, “We had two huge vases with the same type of flowers in at the top of the aisle, which was then placed either side of the top table. We also had loose foliage, eucalyptus and white flowers along the table.” The couple made sure that guests didn’t go hungry and offered a grazing station which included bread, cheeses, mini pies and chutneys. Rebecca says, “For the wedding breakfast, we had an Asian chicken salad with beetroot and goats cheese tart for vegetarians to start. The main was braised daube of beef or vegetable wellington and white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and a vegetarian gin and tonic cheesecake were served for dessert.” The three-tiered semi-naked cake looked beautiful and the flavours included sticky toffee pudding, passionfruit and strawberry champagne. “The bottom tier had a blush and navy hued watercoloured-wash with a ribbon around the base. I had eucalyptus and a rose on the other two tiers and rose gold icing dripping down the cake,” says Rebecca.

LOOKING THE PART When it came to finding the perfect dress, the bride picked 23 

something the complete opposite to what she envisioned. She says, “I originally didn’t want a fitted dress or anything with lace on it, but I instantly fell in love with the Laura dress by Enzoani as soon as I tried it on – no one was expecting me to wear a dress like that.” She accessorised the look with a tiara, veil and blush and white coloured sandal heels. The jewellery was kept minimal with a bracelet given to her by her mother, and sapphire earrings as the something blue and something borrowed from her nan. Rebecca comments, “I felt emotional when I saw myself on the day, everything just felt right. Before I walked down the aisle, I felt so nervous to the point where I thought I was going to pass out!” The groom wore a navy tweed suit with a blushcoloured textured tie, waistcoats and dark brown shoes. He had an orchid buttonhole instead of hydrangea like the groomsmen to stand out. The bridesmaids wore made-to-measure pink/rose gold multiway dresses, which fitted perfectly with the colour scheme and they all carried hydrangea bouquets.

TIME TO CELEBRATE The pair had a magician after the wedding breakfast to keep guests entertained. Paul Lytton The North East Magician was a massive hit with guests, Rebecca adds, “His work is immaculate and had all of the guests crowded around participating and getting involved in the magic.” There was also a DJ, two casino tables and a photo booth during the evening. “Our DJ sent me a link for our guests to pick songs for the night to add a personal touch. His set-up was smart, it’s so modern and everyone commented on how amazing it looked and how professional he was,” Rebecca adds.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS Rebecca and Reece both felt overwhelmed on the day, although they felt so happy after the nervous vanished. A moment that stood out to Reece was seeing his beautiful bride-to-be walk down the aisle. Rebecca says, “The ceremony was our favourite part; a funny moment was when we exchanged rings. I went to put Reece’s ring on and it wouldn’t fit – I think he was so nervous and sweating his finger had swelled up, but we eventually got it on!” Other memorable moments included the best man Matthew’s unexpected and funny speech that filled the room with laughter. The bride continues, “Another great moment was our pageboy Ollie dancing on his own on the dancefloor to kick off the night – there are some great pictures of him showing off his moves!”

HONEYMOON

The pair jetted off for a multicentre trip to Thailand; their first destination was seven nights in Khao Lak followed by Phuket for another week. Rebecca says, “Reece is very active and gets bored quite easily, so the typical Maldives honeymoon wasn’t for him. We planned it all ourselves so this way we got to relax for the first part and then be more active for the next part of the trip. The whole experience was amazing and we did so much including bathing elephants, snorkelling, trying amazing food and spending time on the most tranquil beaches while watching the sunset every night.” 24

ometimes the best things in life are unexpected and can take you completely by surprise, that’s what happened when Laura and Sean first met at ORA Tynemouth where they both worked at the time; Laura as a waitress and Sean was the chef. After months of trying to get Laura’s number, he eventually managed to persuade her to go on a date to the Botanist in Newcastle and the rest is history. Sean would say that he was attracted to Laura’s curly hair and her personality while she says it was his cheeky demeanour and dimples. He got a feeling that he knew he was looking at the woman that he was going to spend the rest of his life with. At the time it was unexplainable however looking back it could only be love. Sean proposed to Laura on June 28th 2018 while moving into their first home and taking the boxes in the kitchen. Laura laughed and mentioned that it was the first day of the rest of the lives, Sean agreed and then got down on one knee to ask her to marry him. It was a massive surprise and of course she said yes! Here Laura shares details about their special day... 29 

All the flowers including the bouquets, buttonholes, fireplace, registrar table settings and the cake stand was handmade by my mother. This all matched the colour scheme and rustic-theme.

My brother is a chef in the army and created our three-tiered cake with flavours including chocolate orange, banoffee and lemon with poppy seed. This had three robins on to represent the lost family members, to go with the saying ‘Robins appear whenever a loved one is near’. 30

The centrepieces were wisteria trees from The Whole Sch-bang Event Decor to go with the two large blossom trees at either side of the top table – all trees had little baubles with fake candles inside.

Our table plan was on a wooden board with twine and mini-pegs.

We both agreed that Le Petit Château was minimalistic, rustic and just where we wanted to get married. The grounds were stunning and we loved that the ceremony and reception can be at the same venue.

Independent Jewellers, Dytham Jewellery Designers, give first-hand insight into who they are and what they can offer About us

We are a bespoke jewellery company specialising in personal and unique pieces. We have been trading for over ten years, but the teams experience goes beyond that. We have constantly tried to push forward the idea of bespoke and unlike most jewellers that is our primary goal.

Why go bespoke?

It is simply about getting what you want! It’s personal, unique and made for no one else but you. We really care about what the clients want and we strive to deliver that. We have made jewellery for all sorts of occasion’s birth of a child, funeral and even redesigned old jewellery.

What’s the difference between us and a high street jeweller?

The big difference is many of the high street jewellers don’t have a workshop on the premises, we do. Not only do we have experienced designers, we have experienced jewellers. One thing that is very noticeable is we don’t sell brands, our full focus is on being bespoke and delivering that. We don’t mass-produce items, each item is made for the person or for the bespoke collection at our studio.

Dytham Jewellery Designers Ltd

15 Front Street, Monkseaton, Whitley Bay, NE25 8AQ

How much does it cost?

People are often surprised by how cost effective going bespoke can be. We can tailor designs to meet the client’s budget and give them more for their money over mass-produced items. Design Consultations are completely free and under no obligation to proceed if they don’t want too. Prices are always given before any work is undertaken and there are no hidden costs.

How long does the bespoke process take?

We work on a time frame of 4-6 weeks. This allows us to control the quality and make sure all work is complete on time. We can alter the time frame if the customer requires as long as it is feasible.

What’s been trending this year?

White precious metals have been the most popular but mixed metals, especially for men’s rings, has become more on-trend. Also, men are becoming more involved with their jewellery, they seem to have a greater awareness of what jewellery can offer and represent.

What’s has next year got in store for us?

After the recent expansion of the workshop and studio we opened our wedding ring workshop to rave reviews in February 2020. Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic we had to halt these for safety not long after starting them up. We are hoping to invite couples next year into the workshop to create beautiful bespoke wedding rings for themselves, with the help of one of our Goldsmiths.

Gemma and David’s intimate wedding took place at South Causey Inn Images courtesy of Victoria Lilly Photography

G

emma and David first crossed paths during a night out on New Year’s Day. It was clear that they shared a strong bond early on in the relationship and were meant to be together. They were an item by April and looking for a house together come winter. Fast forward to Gemma’s 30th birthday, David surprised her with a trip to Iceland the next morning. She says, “After an amazing three days of exploring and going on some fantastic trips to places such as the Blue Lagoon, David got down on one knee and proposed on our final evening at Iceland’s biggest landmark – the Hallgrimskirkja a Lutheran parish church – and of course I said yes!” It was the perfect way to end the dream trip; now the pair aimed to create the perfect day with their nearest and dearest. Here Gemma shares details about their special day… 35 

We’ve always loved the food at South Causey Inn, a menu tasting evening confirmed just how tasty it was and we knew our guests would love it.

When we entered the barn, my hopes of a rustic romantic wedding came true. The space featured wooden floors, original beams, lanterns and candles.

Our two daughters carried hessian baskets filled with beautiful flowers, including blush-pink roses to match all the bouquets. I accessorised my dress with teardrop earrings, cathedral-length veil and a matching bracelet and hair vine.

The service at Mia Sposa Bridal Boutique in Newcastle upon Tyne was amazing! I wanted a mermaid-style gown and fell in love with a Pronovias dress called Drinam, which included stunning beading and lace. 36

We picked a three-tiered ivory cake, which featured blush-pink flowers that were handcrafted to match the romantic theme.

REAL WEDDINGS

We did miss our guests that couldn’t come, but we focused on the positives and was able to have an intimate day with time to spend with everyone.

My centrepieces consisted of three hanging glass baubles with candles and flowers inside.

I bought David personalised cufflinks to open on the morning of the wedding with the location of our engagement on one, and the wedding venue on the other.

Me and my daughters wore our hair down all in the same style.

We had to limit our day guests from 80 to 30 because of COVID-19, but we didn’t let this stop us from having our dream day! David matched the groomsmen and our dads who all wore the same three-piece navy blue suit and pink-blush ties.

We both felt elated on the day and relieved that the day was going ahead.

My maid-of-honour, my sister and my two best friends were my bridesmaids and all looked beautiful in taupe/blush dresses. 37 

My hairdresser, who also happens to be a good friend, created three beautiful hairstyles for the bridesmaids with fresh gypsophila included.

I felt like I didn’t stop smiling all day to the point where my cheeks hurt.

A memorable part of the day was when the photographer took me and David to the lake for some photos and we spent time together talking about the day.

Our top tip would be to try and make some time on the day for just you two as it goes so quickly!

Our two-year-old daughter isn’t keen on David and me holding hands and started to cry in the middle of the ceremony, which made for a funny part of the day. I ask the registrar if I could please take a moment (kids are always unpredictable) and gave her to my mum with a toy to distract her.

We had a guitarist playing music throughout the reception to add to the atmosphere and it enabled us to have our first dance.

We went to Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa for our minimoon, we both love the lakes and have been many times to climb mountains and on boat trips. It was pure luxury lounging on the underwater loungers in the hydro pool with a glass of prosecco and Peroni.

Say yes to THE DRESS! Hot bridal trends for 2021

HELEN DANBURY-TROTT SIMPLY WED BRIDAL LIMITED,

www.rachelallan.com

What do I believe will be trending next year in bridal? As a stockist, I thought it would be best to reach out to one of my fantastic suppliers to assist; the trend we’ve seen explode this season is chic bohemian and it’s been beautiful, but next season’s trends will change knowing the bridal industry. Suppliers at Rachel Allan were happy to help and contacted their designers to see what couples will want to wear next year on the special day. We’ve seen lots of floaty tulle, lace and chiffon this year and next season sees the reappearance of crepe – a versatile fabric which gently drapes over the body. Team this up with square necklines and statement sleeves; this could be Juliet sleeves, bell sleeves, frill sleeves and many more, and you are good to go. Ruffles on the skirt are rumoured to be making a comeback because it’s fun, flirty and feminine. A final prediction is a dramatic cape; it offers coverage and an additional train to any wedding gown. This can be sheer, glittered, embroidered or include 3D embellishments. One thing is for certain; it’s sure to enhance any dress without over powering it. Check out: https://simplywedbridal.co.uk

This year will be busy for weddings due to couples having to postpone their weddings last year. We’re predicting nearlyweds will put their personality and quirkiness into the day to make it creative and special. Brides who have had to postpone want to make their day extra special. Our brides are adding personal touches to their wedding outfits by adding colour to their dresses with hand-painted designs, embroidery, a personal message hidden or personalised shoes that reflect their quirky personality. Silhouette-enhancing corsets paired with voluminous skirts and sleeves will be popular, and it’s all about making the most of your wedding outfit by adding accessories to get more than one look. Check out: www.corsetryandcouture.co.uk

Well, 2020 turned out to be the strangest of years, with weddings being massively affected. It seems to be that last year ended up being the year where anything goes and this is set to continue for 2021. Wedding trends for the year ahead have in some ways been influenced by lockdown and wedding dresses are no exception. Some brides will want to go all out, this will include gowns that create a bit of drama such as a gorgeous princess-style ballgown and statement trains. Many will go big by finding an absolute showstopper of a gown to make them feel amazing and something that will wow their guests. It’s an opportunity to create theatre and for our brides to truly take centre stage on their big day. Others have decided to proceed with micro weddings, potentially with a big party on their first anniversary perhaps. There will definitely be a trend for much smaller, more intimate weddings and that will very likely call for a much more classic and understated gown. The rise of the tea-length dress is sure to continue and could be purchased for the micro wedding, allowing brides initially expecting to marry in 2020 to keep their main gown for the bigger party later down the line. When choosing your dress, make yourself happy as it’s your big day. However the day will look, you will still want to feel and look amazing for your special day. Soft and floaty capes are in the boutique now for brides who wish to have an alternative to a veil, it gives extra coverage and is an easy way to add the wow factor to your look. More unique necklines are becoming popular, a favourite of ours is the square neckline and lace is moving away from a vintage look to a more modern statement. We’re seeing brides-to-be opt for two dresses; a more demure traditional wedding look for the ceremony and changing to a more relaxed dress for the after-party. Minimalist dresses that create a timeless and elegant look are trending and we can see why, it creates a crisp and striking look. For the gowns itself, we’re seeing leg splits to give a more whimsical vibe and soft floaty A-line wedding dresses becoming popular. Sleeves are set to be big for 2021, whether that’s fitted sleeves, bell sleeves or big puffy sleeves. Check out www.theweddingdresscompany.co.uk

www.suzanneneville.com

The biggest trend of 2021 will be weddings going to plan! Many brides have had it tough but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Trends that we have seen emerging in 2020 and will be big in 2021 are sleeves, alongside a day to night look as brides want two or three looks in one. We can create these multiple looks with statement or detachable sleeves, overlays, adding a belt or a eye-catching piece of jewellery for the post-ceremony celebrations. Overlays are proving popular, which brides can chose to remove as their day progresses. Designers are more daring with textures and fabrics, lace will always have its place but it’s exciting to see the alternatives coming through. Headpieces are always going to remain popular, but things are moving towards more fashion forward pieces; brides are braver, daring to show their personality with chunky statement pieces. One thing for sure is 2021/2022 is going to be a big year in bridal and we’re ready; we have brides covered with our stunning designers, Suzanne Neville, Lyn Ashworth and Sottero & Midgley. Q&A

Our experts give their advice to help you look your big-day best

ALL ABOUT THAT BASE

I’m worried my make-up won’t look right on my wedding day because of my dry skin. How can I get around this? Claire says: I recommend starting to prepare skin for your big day as soon as possible. A good skincare regime that includes hydrating products and effective exfoliation will help to improve the texture, look and feel of your face. Your make-up will appear smoother on hydrated skin, but try not to worry as your make-up artist can advise

you on how to get wedding-ready skin. On the day, exfoliate in the morning and apply lots of hydrating moisturisers. I always recommend using a primer to help smooth and prepare skin for the make-up application. A cream-based blush and highlighting product will help to create radiance and a healthy natural glow. FASHION-FORWARD

www.brideandgroomweddingphotography.com

How can I stand out from the groomsmen on my wedding day? Chris says: There are some simple but very effective ways to achieve this. The first way is by wearing a contrasting waistcoat, which is the most popular way to stand out against the groomsmen. If you’re going for a more traditional setting, a classic navy three-piece suit with a grey waistcoat is an excellent choice. Another combination that has grown in popularity is the blue three-piece suit with a light brown waistcoat. Either way, you’re guaranteed to stand out and look fantastic. If you’re set on wearing the same waistcoat as your groomsmen, try going for a different tie option with a lighter or darker version of the same colour. There are many different options for shoes with the same style coming in multiple colours. You could stand out a little more by going for a tan tweed brogue for the groomsmen and add contrast with a brown brogue with a navy tweed feature for yourself. “With a creamy matte texture this lippy is comfortable to wear and doesn’t transfer. Long-lasting it stays in place through coffees and snacks, but could probably do with a little top up after lunch. Plus, She’s a Lady is a super-feminine girly pink, lovely for a rosy bride look. Incredible value for money, it’s a great staple for your make-up bag. Why not try all the colours?” – Kelly Andrews

“After using a tint for the first time I’m a convert! This colour was divine, and what I like is that you can layer it up and build the tone to your desired effect; soft subtle pink by day and a deep red by night. It lasted all day after drinking and eating, and even stayed on when I applied a balm over the top. A must-have for your make-up bag.” – Danielle Harvey

“Straight away, I loved the sturdy packaging and precise applicator. The lightweight formula has fantastic pigmentation and the product has a matte finish. There’s no cracking or bleeding because of the avocado oil, vitamin E, and hyaluronic filling spheres, which I’m very thankful for as there’s nothing I hate more than dry lips! “The Lip Definer was easy to use, and I loved the way it looked. I put it on first thing, and by the time I went to bed it was still firmly in place, looking fabulous, even though I’d been in the rain most of the day. I had fun playing with the dual-ended pencil and brush creating a look that suited me and paired it with Unforgettable Lipstick in Legendary, but as it’s a natural shade it would work well with most colours.” – Melissa Barker

SHADE: UNDRESSED WITH LEGENDARY

“Historically, matte lipsticks have been my worst enemy – being a notorious lip-biter they show up all my flaws. But it’s safe to say that this product has changed my mindset. The finish, although definitely matte, is somehow silky and smooth. The best thing about this particular shade is that it’s bold enough to look like you’ve made an effort without being OTT – the perfect lazy-girl hack! It also has incredible staying power, but that does mean you need to be careful to apply correctly the first time as it doesn’t budge!” – Beth Morton

Plan your big day with our expert advice

EXCHANGING VOWS We want our wedding to be personal and someone mentioned a celebrant is a good idea. What are the benefits of having one? Your wedding ceremony should be a true representation of you as a couple and the journey shared together. With a celebrant-led ceremony, you’ll have the freedom to express yourselves fully by highlighting your love story, selecting readings, including live music and involving friends and family. Symbolic elements can also be added such as handfasting, unity

candle, sand ceremony, love cocktails, crystals and pretty much anything – the possibilities are endless. The ceremony can take place somewhere conventional or somewhere different like a woodland, tipi, field, music festival, beach or even in your house or garden! As an independent celebrant working around the North East, I specialise in creating memorable ceremonies for couples and I love hearing their love stories. ALL ABOUT THAT BASE

72

How can I create the perfect natural look without my make-up f eeling too heavy? The first and most crucial step for creating natural-looking make-up is to prep the skin. I love to use a brightening moisturiser and gel primer, which helps the products glide over the skin without sitting into fine lines or pores. This step helps create the perfect canvas and a long-lasting make-up look. Next, apply a small amount of a buildable foundation and slowly add more until you get the desired coverage. I love to use a beauty blender for this part of the application as it eliminates streaks or any brush strokes. Make sure to add a small amount of concealer if you have any problem areas by using a dabbing motion rather than swiping as this can move products underneath and can cause make-up to go patchy after a while. Cream highlighting products always give a more natural dewy appearance, apply to the cheekbones, eyebrow bone and the tip of the nose. Stay away from dark colours on the eyes to keep a subtle look. It’s important to take your time and not pack too much product onto your brush, keep a tissue nearby so you can take off any excess before applying the products. Pick a creamy product packed with good coverage and shine for the lips, I’d avoid using a matte lipstick as this can make your lips appear flat in photos. Try to stay clear of products that contain an SPF on your wedding day as this causes a flashback, a white cast over your skin in photos which no bride-to-be wants. Always finish off with a good hydrating mist to set your make-up while adding a healthy glow. Stephanie Worrall | Stephanie Worrall Makeup Artist www.instagram.com/stephanieworrall_mua

HOT TOPIC

ASK THE EXPERTS PICTURE PERFECT How can we capture natural-looking photos on our wedding day? The most important way to achieve natural-looking photos is to build a good relationship with a photographer. I find this relatively easy, to capture beautiful shots, as my couples aren’t just clients but they become friends. This allows for great banter and you’ll instantly relax in front of the camera – especially when I ask you to do something out of the norm. I also suggest that you look at each other, there’s no one else who can make you smile and laugh more than your partner, be it at them or with them. That’s a natural moment I can capture to show real love. After all, no one wants to stare at a camera with a cheesy smile and you’re certainly not in love with me! Darren Edmonds | DJM Photography www.djmphotography.co.uk

ALL IN THE DETAIL I have an understated dress for my wedding and I’m looking for statement jewellery. What would you suggest? A pair of statement earrings would be on-trend and would work well with any simple dress. It can be hard to choose a necklace if the neckline of the dress is high or plunging as the accessory could be lost entirely – so earrings could be the answer. Traditional pearls and diamonds can be overlooked, so why not go for these icy blue topaz drop earrings? These unusual rose cut stones are large and unfussy with a great amount of sparkle. For the traditionalists, the icy blue relates perfectly to the traditional wedding poem that says, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a silver sixpence in her shoe”. These earrings are made in sterling silver with a contemporary matte finish and are handmade to order in our Corbridge workshop. Other matching items in blue topaz are also available. Kirsty Taylor | Kirsty Taylor Goldsmiths www.kirstytaylorgoldsmiths.com

TIERS OF JOY What should we take into consideration when planning our summer wedding cake? When creating a cake for a summer wedding, you need to consider your environment. A warm day in a marquee with the cake table in direct sunlight will not suit a semi-naked or buttercream cake; they should be kept indoors in an air-conditioned room. Fondant cakes are better in warmer weather because a good quality white chocolate ganache supports them while giving neat lines and sharp edges. We increase the ratio of white chocolate in warmer weather to ensure your cake remains stable. A reputable professional will ensure your cake not only tastes delicious but looks as good after delivery. They should know how to stack and support it properly, what flavours and designs are on-trend and what will suit your theme and venue. Make sure your cake gets pride of place and discuss with your venue in advance to make sure that the cake will be displayed beautifully. You don’t want crumpled table linen, poor stands or fire extinguishers as a backdrop to ruin the lovely photos. Consider some pretty additions such as cake pops, macarons or other treats to set-up on pretty trays and boxes to give the wow factor. HEAD TO THE EAST

Wilderness Reserve has launched its second country estate, Chapel Barn, just in time for the staycation boom whether you want to head away pre- or post-vows.
