CELEBRATE IN STYLE The Wedding Barn can hold up to 170 seated guests and more than 200 people standing. This gorgeous space is unrecognisable from its barn roots, with vintage Army parachutes and fairylights covering the ceiling, there’s plenty of space for small and large parties alike. The Wedding Pavilion is the outdoor licensed space and is ideal for those looking for a more relaxed service.

THE LOVE
of my life Florencia and Fernando celebrated their love with a separate service and blessing Images courtesy of Tiffany LS Photography

lorencia and Fernando met at a wine fair in Argentina. “I’m a sommelier, and Fernando is a wine enthusiast with a website focused on the food and wine community,” says Florencia. “It all started as a professional relationship where I would write articles for his site, but over time we realised that our common interests ran deeper and that we loved spending time together. Being with each other has made us better, just like a good food and wine pairing!” Fernando popped the question on 5th May, 2020. “We had just dropped my parents at the airport after they planned to visit for a three week holiday but ended up staying for eight weeks due to the first lockdown,” shares the bride. “We were back at our flat at a little past midnight and had just finished dinner when he offered me a nightcap. I was so tired and said I’d share one with him, but he insisted that I get my own. He made a light G&T and little did I know that on the ice ball that was chilling was a token engagement ring that he proposed with.” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day... 21
The Parish Church of Saint Mary and All Saints is absolutely beautiful. It’s full of history and Whalley was the first town we visited when we moved to the UK, so to us it was like a fairytale. We had celebration drinks at the Black Bull Inn – Old Langho as it’s our local pub and we have fond memories there.
We couldn’t have a large reception due to COVID-19, so we decided to have three tables so that we could follow the rule of six.
My bridesmaid wore a pink and white dress for the civil wedding and a blue dress for the church and reception.
For the civil ceremony, I wore a satin pink blouse with a lace top underneath and a pair of jeans to reflect our laid back approach to the wedding. Fernando chose a blush shirt, blue jeans and a grey jacket.
Fernando chose a grey suit with a blush pink shirt and bow tie made from recycled peacock feathers for the blessing. He matched it with an orange automatic Seiko watch face and buttonhole that matched my bouquet. 22
For the church blessing and reception, I opted for a blush pink lace dress that I chose with the help of my bridesmaid and parents. I accessorised with white satin shoes, an heirloom watch that belonged to my greatgrandma and a crystal hair clip.
REAL WEDDINGS
Our wedding was very simple, mainly because we weren’t sure if the regulations would continue to change. We had entertainment from Musique Agency for our first dance. They were a complete hit and got us to sing along.
We got engaged just after the pandemic hit and decided that due to the uncertainty of the situation, we wanted to go ahead with the wedding as soon as possible. We were very eager to state our commitment to the world.
Technology has come a long way, so we decided to live stream our wedding so that we could share it with everyone we care about.
We’re planning to have a big celebration back home with our friends and family that are still in Buenos Aires when things become more settled and international travel isn’t as difficult as it is today.
Our advice for couples planning their wedding is to remember that as long as you have your partner with you, your day will work out perfectly. Tradition is there for a reason, but small intimate weddings are lovely too! Try to adapt. Don’t fear the change and take advantage of the technology and resources we have today.
A couple of days after our reception, one of the tables had to self isolate due to a track and trace notice from the NHS. One of our friends had gotten COVID-19 two days after the reception, and we all had to stay home. It gave us our own little honeymoon, where we got to design our photo book and spend our first few days of married life together. Happily, nobody in isolation got sick! 23
The civil registrar and vicar in the church made us feel really special and did their best to comply with COVID-19 regulations without making us miss out on a normal wedding. They made us forget about being in tier three due to their kindness and dedication to the job.
Fernando felt anxious, excited and happy that we were officially starting a new chapter in our lives. I felt the same and couldn’t imagine growing old with anyone else. We were a bit sad that our families couldn’t physically be there, but they were more present in the end than we ever could have imagined.
We would say to any couple be flexible and shop local. Things can change from one day to the next, and the people in your community will always try their best to help.
We spent the night of the wedding in Liverpool. We stayed in a river view room and then went to dinner at Lerpwl and had a lovely tasting menu. The day after the church and reception we went to London for a night and stayed in the Stafford Hotel before coming home to self-isolate.

manda and Phil were introduced when she moved to London. “We hit it off right away and proceeded to have a whirlwind romance with trips to the theatre, picnics in Hyde Park and weekends in the Lake District,” says Amanda. “We started travelling the world making so many incredible memories together. Everything just fell into place perfectly.” Phil proposed during a surprise trip to Switzerland. “I had no idea where we were going, and all he’d said was to pack winter clothes and walking boots,” shares the bride. “As soon as I found out where we were going, I was over the moon! Phil is half Swiss, and my family used to holiday in Switzerland when I was younger, so it’s a special place for both of us. On the second day of our holiday, we caught the cable car up to the very top of a mountain where we saw beautiful blue skies and the most incredible views of the Matterhorn. I turned around, and Phil was down on one knee in the snow asking me to marry him. I, of course, said ‘yes’. We then skied down the mountain, popped open a bottle of champagne and celebrated in style in our Swiss chalet. It was the perfect proposal.”
SETTING THE SCENE “Storrs Hall was the first venue we looked at, and I knew that we wouldn’t find anywhere else as beautiful,” explains Amanda. “We had friends and family travelling from all over the world to attend our wedding, so we decided to hire the property for the whole weekend. The stunning setting, delicious food and fabulous accommodation were exactly what we wanted, and it looked particularly gorgeous at Christmas.” The couple incorporated their love of National Trust properties into their table names. “Phil and I have visited many historic houses and love making a romantic picnic to enjoy in the beautiful gardens,” shares the bride. “This led us to name our tables after our favourite places, including Chartwell, Holkham Hall and Chatsworth. I designed our table plan, along with all the invitations and stationery. I went for an elegant dark blue colour scheme with gold accents running throughout.” “Grange Flower Service created beautiful floral decorations for our centrepieces,” says Amanda. “We chose a mixture of tall vases with deep red, white and green blooms and lanterns with floral wreaths.” Amanda and Phil purchased their big-day bake from Lucie’s Cake Co. “Our cake was an absolute dream,” shares the bride. “It was a four-tier design with pillars, delicate frosted detailing and beautiful fresh flowers. It was a real spectacle! We displayed it in the rotunda at Storrs Hall, and all our guests commented on how delicious and gorgeous it was.” “Phil arranged all the transport through Little and Caine,” reveals Amanda. “He hired traditional wedding cars for my dad and I and another for my mum and the bridesmaids. We also arranged a coach to take all the guests to the church and back.”
DRESSED TO IMPRESS Amanda wore a beautiful dress from A Family Affair in Kendal. “I’d tried on so many designs, and it was my mum who ended up finding my gown,” says Amanda. “I put it on, and we both knew it was the one. My two gorgeous nieces, Celia and Zoe, thought I was a Disney princess on my wedding day, and I was more than happy to go along with that. I accessorised with a pair of sapphire and diamond earrings that were a wedding present from Phil, my mum’s veil and a tiara borrowed from my sister-in-law.” Phil and his groomsmen wore traditional morning suits from Moss Bros with deep red accents to match the flowers. “He chose 27

REAL WEDDINGS cufflinks in the shape of an Airbus A320, which is the aeroplane he flys for work,” adds the bride. “It was the first Christmas present I ever bought him, and he always wears them on special occasions.” “My bridesmaids and flowergirls chose elegant navy blue dresses and fur shrugs from Ever Pretty,” explains Amanda. “I also surprised them with jewellery sets on the morning of the wedding and bottles of champagne to celebrate.”
TIME TO CELEBRATE “To keep everyone entertained, we had a piano player during the drinks reception and a DJ for the evening reception,” shares Amanda. “For our first dance, we decided two days before the wedding to make up a routine to dance along to LOVE by Nat King Cole. Somehow, we managed to pull it off, and it will forever be one of our favourite moments of the day.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We were relaxed on the day and just enjoyed every moment,” Amanda shares. “It was so special getting married surrounded by our friends and family in a beautiful setting at the most wonderful time of the year.” Their photographer, Ladybirds Photography suggested taking confetti photos under the rotunda. “He organised for all the bridal party to go up onto the balcony and throw confetti down while we danced,” says the bride. “It was a magical moment, although I did get rather dizzy! During the drinks reception, he then persuaded us to get some wedding photos outside, even though it was slightly wet from the rain. It was so worth it as the photos of us in the pagoda are magical.” “I had planned for some sparkler photos in the evening, but when the time came, the sparklers had gone missing!” adds Amanda. “I had the whole Storrs Hall team hunting for them but to no avail until one of the staff found some leftover sparklers from a previous wedding and saved the day! I’m so glad they did as I love the pictures so much.” The couple had family joining them from all over the world. “Phil’s sister and her family were flying in the day before the wedding from France,” shares the bride. “However, French airstrikes meant that all flights were cancelled! That didn’t stop them, they all got in the car and drove 22 hours to make it in time for the wedding celebrations! It meant so much to us that they were there and it wouldn’t have been the same without them.”
HONEYMOON “We flew first class to Thailand and enjoyed our honeymoon on a beautiful beach resort,” reveals the bride. “We spent some action-packed days white water rafting and snorkelling. Phil planned it all to perfection, and we were back home just in time to spend Christmas with our families.”

Local experts offer their top tips
P
lanning your wedding can be a fun but stressful experience. There are lots of suppliers to choose from and so much to organise, it can be hard knowing where to start. To help we’ve rounded up some local experts and asked for their top tips.
www.instagram.com/infinity.photography.events
www.instagram.com/infinity.photography.events
Choosing your photographer is one of the most important decisions you will make when planning your wedding. They will not only be responsible for capturing one of the most important days of your life, but they will also be with you all day. After picking a style you like and considering the financial side of things, there are a lot of things to think about before booking. Think about the personality of your supplier. We’re all unique and have different values, so it’s important you choose someone who you get on with. Trust me it would make everything much easier and you would feel more comfortable in front of the camera. More than anything you will regret having someone that is making you feel uncomfortable following you around on your wedding day. Have a phone consultation rather than communicating via emails or request to meet up for a chat. Do your research and be confident that you’re happy with their style. There are plenty of photographers out there, and everyone’s style is different, you’ll need to narrow it down to what you like and don’t like. For example, some have a light and airy style, while others are dark and moody. Book your supplier well in advance. Most professionals have very limited availability, especially during the popular wedding season. Booking in advance will guarantee that you secure the wedding photographer you want not just whoever is available. Probably the most important part is price. Like everything else, cheap doesn’t necessarily mean good and good doesn’t always
come cheap. However, there’s always a happy medium. If you’re trying to cut down on cost, think about what you want and what you can skip to make it cheaper. For example, do you want a wedding album or do you prefer the photos as digital files? Do you want photos of the bridal party getting ready or is it not your cup of tea? Most of the time price is based on coverage time, so it might be worth mentioning that to your photographer to see if there would be an option to make it more affordable. It’s also worth asking if there are any discounts available. For example, we at Infinity Photography Events have offers for all Blue Light Card Holders, as well as, the Armed Forces. Other suppliers may be able to offer similar discounts too. Think COVID-19! We’re living in very uncertain times, and as we all know the pandemic has changed everything. Make sure that you’re covered. Most would, I’m sure, try to be flexible and accommodate any date changes. However, make sure you discuss this matter before booking. Ask as many questions as possible. Is your deposit refundable if they don’t have availability due to a date change? Does your contract cover anything about the pandemic? Make sure you know where you stand to avoid any disappointment. Last but not least, check out reviews on social media and make sure your photographer is someone that meets your expectations. BOOKING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER

CHOOSING A PET CARER Congratulations on your engagement and upcoming wedding! We understand that pets are a huge part of the family, and it’s only natural that you would want them to be part of your wedding. The best way to choose your pet care is to see which businesses are recommended by your venue, as they often have a good working relationship with them. Once you have your recommended suppliers, see which ones are close to the property, have qualifications such as Pet First Aid, have good reviews and are fully insured. Venues often have groups on social media where you can ask previous wedding parties for their opinions. It’s never too early to book your suppliers, here at Thea’s Lakeland Walks we have taken bookings more than two years in advance, so you may find popular companies become fully booked for the peak seasons quite quickly. Budgets are important when it comes to planning a wedding. Ask if they can give you several quotes with lots of different options to help you plan the big day. This could include overnight boarding, assistance with your photographs and transport to other locations. Unfortunately, COVID-19 had caused a lot of issues and last-minute cancellations. Find a company who will do their absolute best to accommodate any changes and don’t charge for moving your date. Catherine Smith Pet specialist www.theaslakelandwalks.co.uk
HIRING AN ENTERTAINER There’s so much choice and variety when booking and planning your wedding entertainment. They will spend a lot of time with you and your guests on the big day and will interact and influence everyone. Make a list of what you want, questions to ask and what is important to you. What music do they play? What is their setup like? Can they meet in person or Skype? Set a budget and be realistic. DJ prices vary, and less experienced entertainers will be cheaper than a company with lots of weddings under their belt. Bands will also cost more. Get recommendations from friends and family and go to wedding fairs. This is a great way to meet all kinds of people and talk to them about your ideas. You should book your entertainment early. Most weddings are planned two years in advance, and great suppliers will get booked quickly. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a huge amount of 2020 weddings rescheduled for 2021 and 2022 so our diaries have been massively compressed with most of these weddings being squeezed into an already busy schedule. Don’t be afraid to ask what their terms are if your wedding needs to be rearranged. At PC Roadshows, we’re honouring all our original booking agreements and allowing dates to be changed without penalties or fees. Finally, enjoy planning and have fun at wedding fairs. The process can be great fun as well as the big day itself. Darren Windle Entertainment specialist www.pcroadshows.com 40

A wedding celebrant is a person who asks you and your partner some questions about your relationship and then uses that information to write a bespoke ceremony that they will deliver on your big day. In England and Wales, celebrant weddings are not legal but this may change as the Government are taking it under consideration. In Scotland and Northern Ireland, some may conduct legal ceremonies but check their respective Government website for details. A celebrant wedding can open a whole lot of extra possibilities around venue type and timing, as well as having words that have been written especially for you. Think of the type of ceremony you want. This will help you with the personality of your supplier. Will the service be focused on you or a performance by the celebrant? Are you an outgoing couple who likes loud and outrageous, or would you like things to be a little more contained? Will there be religious or faith-based elements? If so, you want an independent aka a civil celebrant. Whereas humanists offer ceremonies that are based on their non-religious beliefs which might suit you better. A good company will ask lots of questions about your relationship so they can write a personal service. Most offer a free ‘get to know you’ chat so you can see if you click. Read online reviews of suppliers that catch your eye and/or ask around. Someone you know may have had a celebrant wedding, get their opinion and ask if they’d recommend them. Prices may vary so find out what you get for your money. Some companies offer packages, while others have a base price and extra elements cost more. Lastly, are they available for your date? Sarah Nelson Celebrant www.momentsto.co.uk
Think of a planner as a sidekick or personal assistant. For all the decisions you’re going to have to make, wouldn’t it be great to have someone to call who knows the best ways to spend your money, time and effort? On the day, they’re the top agent for getting between you and the suppliers. They answer all the questions from any angle and ensure you don’t have to deal with any mishaps or issues. They know your plans, expectations and most important elements. This means they’re your eyes and ears while you relax and take it all in. Your planner or coordinator should be like a friend. It’s all about trust and if you can have a laugh too, what a bonus. I know with my clients, we can tell from the first phone call if I’m the planner for them. Do you have matching priorities? Does your ethos match theirs? Make sure you look into their experience. Have they handled your style or type of venue before? Does their fee reflect the level of support required and amount of trust being bestowed on them? When it comes to your budget, think about what you must have and don’t need. Start with what means the most to you. These elements should be set in stone. For all the other choices, look at whether these make a difference to the atmosphere or memories created. Do not just get something because that’s what other people do. Your wedding is not every other wedding, it’s personal and should reflect you as a couple. Its been a weird and testing time. Weddings have been changed, moved and cancelled. If you need to change your plans, be open and honest with your supplier. Ask questions but come from a good place, each side of the booking needs support and doesn’t want to be negative. Annabel Candler Wedding planner www.weddingsbyannabel.co.uk

A BUDDING ROMANCE
A second photographer is a great asset for several reasons. Primarily, if you like the reportage style, the second shooter is usually tasked with quietly circulating amongst the congregation during the group photographs. This is where natural images tend to be found. The primary supplier will be dealing with the groups while the second tends to go unnoticed and can catch relatives laughing or children playing. On a personal note, I’ve always found the long aisle shot of the back of the dress tends to be one of the bride’s favourite images from the day. Once the primary photographer has taken up a position at the front, they can’t move away. This is one of the many things that tend to be reliant on the second shooter. There’s also the advantage of a second viewpoint that can’t be underestimated. Not to mention the increased number of images available to the couple. The cost of an additional shooter is usually quite small when compared to the initial price, but the benefits are huge.
When a client is going for a relaxed wedding we normally suggest sticking to the basics and adding on where necessary. Start with the bridal bouquet. You don’t want to mix up relaxed and minimal/simple. A relaxed bouquet can be a mixture of colours and varieties that look handpicked giving off a natural homemade feel. Next, opt for something complementary for the bridesmaids in a smaller size and a simple cluster of flowers bound with some twine for the buttonholes. Now you have your basics done it’s your choice to extend and dress the venue or leave it showing its natural beauty. If you’d like to add a little something, items like loose-laid foliage on long tables, glass vases or jars showcasing some natural florals and foliage with tea lights work perfectly. Giving that effortless look to finish your relaxed wedding.

Q – A friend of ours had two photographers on their wedding day. What are the benefits of this and should we do the same?

Q – We’re having a very relaxed wedding. How can I reflect our natural theme in our flowers?
THROUGH THE LENS
EXPERT ADVICE
Q – We’re both a bit camera shy and are feeling anxious about photos on our wedding day, but also want a lovely album to look back on. Can you offer us some advice?
www.darklemoner.co.uk
There are many styles of photography to consider when choosing a wedding photographer. Some of these can be quite formal and require you to pose in front of the camera. A style that may be better suited to you is reportage or documentary. These capture events as they naturally happen, letting the story of your day unfold in a sort of guest’s view. I believe that this type of photography is perfect for people who feel awkward in front of the camera as it’s done in a less intrusive way. It captures the joyful moments and natural smiles of the day without needing to be staged and everyone looking at the camera. Your wedding should be about having a great time, and your pictures should reflect that. Stacey Jackson | Photographer | www.darklemoner.co.uk
Q – What are your suggestions for creative night-time shots? I think every photographer should aim to get at least one amazing night-time shot of their couple. It will leave them with a great lasting impression, and if you get it right, it could be the shot that stands out from the rest. Your photographer will need either a video light (I use the ice light) or they can use off-camera flash to help with producing a creative night portrait. Your supplier should get you to pose, light you with video light and aim for the rest of the scene to be completely black, producing a classic minimalistic portrait. Alternatively, you could do the same as above but face each other with your noses barely touching. Put a coloured gel on the video light and place a light behind you, close to your faces but out of shot. This will create a beautiful outline of your faces. Another option is to stand four feet in front of a wall, facing each other with the flash behind you pointed at the wall. This will create a wonderful silhouette and is a very simple but creative technique. If you’re fortunate enough to have booked a grand venue that is beautifully lit at night, take the opportunity to have some photos in front of it. Inside the venue, try to look for interesting angles, use mirrors as a reflection and ways that light can be used to frame you.

MOMENTS THAT MATTER
MAKING MEMORIES
Q – There are so many photographers out there – How do we choose the right one for us? It can be tricky when it comes to selecting the right photographer for your big day, but there are some simple rules for choosing wisely. The first thing to consider is the style of your wedding and how it impacts the type of photographer you’re looking for. Take inspiration from magazines, movies and television shows. It’s important that the work of any prospective supplier gels with your preferred look, for example, if you’re after dramatic imagery that evokes classic Hollywood vibes then perhaps look for a professional that specialises in natural light. Secondly, start with a long list and work down to your favourites; you must spend time reflecting on their existing body of work to get a feel for their signature style. Do you want most images to be posed or candid shots where people are unaware of the photographer? Choosing between these two techniques will help you whittle the potentials down. Lastly, consider if you’re the right kind of client for the photographer. Clients often assume that it’s about the supplier being right for them, but unlike many aspects of your big day, there is a constant interaction between you both, whether you realise it or not during the event itself. Someone that shoots editorial may not be at their best if the celebration is outside of their comfort zone and that’s a risk you wouldn’t want to take when you’re investing thousands of pounds on one part of your wedding. VENUE STYLING hen it comes to decorating your wedding venue, the options are endless. Whether you want to incorporate your favourite colour, a particular theme or showcase your personalities, there’s a lot you need to take into consideration. “Incorporate foliage into your bouquet and around the venue to create a gorgeous fresh and just picked feel. Laid foliage and flowers also works great on the top table. Finish with wooden logs, jam jars and candles to create a romantic look.” – Bethany Bryne from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.

Sustainably embracing nature.
Add a touch of gold to your tables, flowers and stationery to create a luxurious look. It’s also worth using lots of different flowers in your centrepieces and bouquet but in the same colours. Mixing lower-cost options with more expensive versions like orchids can help reduce the overall price.
“Minimise the use of plastic and instead use natural biodegradable paper or wood for things such as place cards, table plans and welcome signs.” – Bethany from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.

“Hiring your centrepieces means they can be re-used over and over again, making them sustainable.” – Donna Brown from Pure Elegance Weddings & Events.
“Opt for British grown seasonal flowers and use a florist who grows their own crops or can source local blooms. Choose foam-free installations and table pieces. Having a table decorated with seasonal single stems can fill an area with a sweet scent while sticking to a budget.” – Sam Clark from Free Range Floristry. 45
LOVELY PASTELS Romantically subdued hues.
www.freerangefloristry.co.uk www.flowersbyjemmaholmes.co.uk
Signs and birdcages look great hung around the venue and are a clever way of incorporating your colour scheme. You could also hire hanging lanterns. These are a fun way of lighting up any space and come with intricate patterns in a variety of hues.
www.freerangefloristry.co.uk
“The finishing touches make a big difference at a pastel wedding, with things such as ribbons on your name cards, balloon arches or the icing on your cake bringing everything together. Soft accessories such as pearls will add a hint of glamour to your décor.” – Bethany from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.
www.flowersbyjemmaholmes.co.uk
“Pick your colour palette and a pastel variation and make sure you stick to them. If you go for pale tones, avoid adding a brighter hue into the mix as this can ruin the aesthetic. Pastel shades are normally associated with spring so use seasonal flowers or natural garden roses to add a soft, natural feel to your wedding.” – Bethany from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.

“Less is absolutely more, go for less foliage and more flowers to create this look. Team with local hand-dyed silk ribbons for the bouquets that will complement your hues and enrich the romance. Simple blooms placed in a bowl can be used as table arrangements and add timeless elegance and a deep scent. Keep your décor simple with candlelight throughout.” – Sam from Free Range Floristry.

“Pastels are a great base to work with as the colours compliment each other, whether it’s lilac, pink, yellow or blue. Think about a common hue that can be used as the base that will complement other shades such as sage.” – Donna from Pure Elegance Weddings & Events.
“Contrast your hues against your venue’s décor. For example, having dark wood walls and bare wooden tables would make light yellow and orange tones pop.” – Bethany from Flowers by Jemma Holmes.
BRIGHT AND BOLD
“Foliage is your friend for this look. It creates a one colour backdrop to pop against. Yellows and bright blues work well to create points of interest in bouquets. Opt for a mix of seasonal British flowers and select a ribbon trail that contrasts the main hue of your bouquet.” – Sam from Free Range Floristry.
“The use of too much colour can quickly have the opposite effect and lessen the look you’re trying to create.” – Donna from Pure Elegance Weddings & Events.

“Not every aspect of styling has to use prominent colours. In one of my weddings, I used pops of colours in the pink up-lighters, gold banqueting chairs and blue crushed velvet tablecloths to create a timeless look that complemented other strong colours.” – Donna from Pure Elegance Weddings & Events.

T
hese gorgeous images were taken at the charming Paddock Barn Weddings. We spoke to the photographer, Mindy Coe to find out more: “We created this shoot just after the initial lockdown. With 95 per cent of summer weddings cancelled or postponed, most couples are planning to have a smaller celebration that they originally intended. We were eager to create a rustic, laid back shoot to help inspire couples going forward. Paddock Barn Weddings is the perfect venue for intimate nuptials. It’s full of character and charm with several options for ceremony spaces. Our autumn-themed shoot demonstrates the beauty of chilly days and low golden sunshine in the Lake District. We even managed an outdoor ceremony and wedding breakfast set up. The team and I wanted to put an emphasis on using local suppliers and zero plastic. The majority of the decor was forged locally and sustainably, which fit perfectly with our ethics.” 49

REGIONAL SHOOT
T
his gorgeous set of images was taken at The Coppermines Lakes Cottages in the Lake District. To find out more we spoke to the photographer, Clare Gelderd. She tells us: “Using a palette of earthy tones, beautiful blousy blue blooms and a selection of rustic copper and slate textures we were able to bring the venue to life. Mining for copper in the valley dates back to the 16th-century, and in 1982 the buildings were purchased by Philip Johnson, who set about rebuilding and restoring the property to create a mustsee wedding venue. The hair, make-up and attire were styled to suit a relaxed and energetic day, leaving no restrictions for embracing the great outdoors. Locally produced hand-crafted canapes flow with the day, and the cake was in keeping with the concept and fit beautifully in the wedding barn. Within this peaceful Lake District mountain range, guests are only muted by the romantic softening tones from the harpist. This venue has it all, accommodation, parking and most importantly, a setting you can frame as you feel appropriate.”

Q&A
Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best
A SMOOTH FINISH
Q – How do I choose the best foundation for my wedding day? Your foundation is very personal. When it comes to choosing your wedding day make-up, be mindful of what you usually wear, chances are this is a good place to start. If you have problems on a day-to-day basis, then start looking for a new foundation. On your wedding day, you want to look as much like you as possible. If you’re used to a dewy glow but are worried it won’t last, try using products over your foundation such as cream bronzers and a setting spray. For a more glamourous flawless look, a heavier foundation can be used to create a matte finish but this can be quite dry on the skin. A hydrating primer will prevent your face from looking dry in pictures and create a longer-lasting effect. You can apply powders for additional highlights and dewy effects. I highly recommend airbrush make-up as a base. It’s guaranteed to last 24 hours, reduces lines and blemishes and can be tailored to your preference as well as having SPF. It’s a great all-rounder and works for most of my brides. Be mindful when picking a foundation with an SPF as some can leave a flashback on pictures in certain lights. If you want to try a couple of different foundations to find the one for you, I recommend visiting a make-up counter and choosing a tester to get a true representation of how it will look on a day-to-day basis. When matching your skin colour, always test on your neckline, not the side of your jawline as this can be a different shade to your chest. Any foundation can be a bride’s preference and the best way to make you feel special is investing in a great base. Nikki Webb Hair and make-up artist www.nikkiwebbmua.com 72 7272
SUMMER LOVING
Q – My partner and I are having a summer wedding, and my mum wants to wear something seasonal. What do you suggest? One of my favourite elements of modern occasion wear is the choice available in both styles and colours. Dresses and jackets remain a popular look and come in a whole host of beautiful fabrics with exquisite detailing. For summer weddings, lots of mums opt for a stand-alone dress which can be equally glamourous. Variety is key, from chic shift shapes to full-skirted styles and everything in between. It’s always a good idea to try on a mixture of fabrics and colours to get a feel for what suits. It’s often the outfit a customer least expects to work on the hanger that turns out to be the one. Don’t know where to start... Phil absolutely made our wedding day and night. He’s incredible and made the day so much fun and everyone was surprised and got involved. The amount of people who have said it’s the best wedding they’ve been to is amazing, and it’s down to Phil. He exceeded my expectations and we can’t thank him enough. My partner is from the night-life industry and said from day one we was having Phil, and would have changed the date if Phil was unavailable. HEAD TO THE EAST
