Ring-a-ding-ding I
’ve worked at County Wedding Magazines for more than four years and over that time I’ve seen trends come and go, inspirational real weddings and worked with some amazing suppliers. As a result, I thought I’d have a pretty good idea of what I’d want at my own wedding but when my partner, Dave, recently proposed I realised I have absolutely no idea! I’m sure lots of you will agree that the first few weeks of having the ‘engaged’ status and wearing the ring feels a bit surreal, but the endless possibilities are also really exciting. Like so many of you, we’re trying to plan the perfect wedding during a pandemic, so things have been a little unconventional so far with online tours, lots of Skype meetings and E-mails. Its been so wonderful to see first hand how suppliers in the wedding industry are going above and beyond to ensure their couples’ days are special, regardless of the restrictions. If you’re looking for inspiration, then this issue is perfect for you. We’ve rounded up some of the best bridal boutiques, spoken to local entertainers, hair and make-up artists and a host of other talented suppliers. We have three real weddings starting on page 23 and a stunning shoot on page 49 that’s sure to inspire you. You can submit your wedding or styled shoot via our website or at melissab@kdmediapublishing.com
67 Lace is a popular trend that we’ve seen make a comeback in the last few years. To ensure you look fabulous on your big day, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite designs.

We’ve asked local boutiques about 2021 fashion trends.
I hope you enjoy the issue!

Luxury jewellers, Laings have launched their 2021 winter campaign across stores and online. The sparkling campaign encourages customers to enjoy the beauty of every day, allowing moments of escapism with a touch of luxury. Sally Alobaidi, the head of marketing at Laings, commented: “Our appreciation for the joy found in every day became so much more paramount last year, and is something that should be celebrated. Diamonds symbolise this joy, reminding you of precious moments, and becoming part of your day-to-day life. Sometimes the simple, timeless and classic diamond jewellery pieces that we wear all the time are our most prized. They add a hint of magic to each day, and this season we wanted to celebrate the unspoken moments that they become a part of.” To see some of Laings gorgeous jewellery, visit www.laingsuk.com
Welsh Brew Tea has teamed up with Cardiff University to create a new wellness green tea blended with pure Welsh honey and scientifically identified botanicals. Developed by the Swansea-based company with Cardiff’s scientific know-how, the Bee Good to Yourself tea is 100 per cent natural and is ideal for couples looking for eco-friendly wedding favours. Alan Wenden, the director and founder of Welsh Brew Tea, tells us: “We believe it’s the first green tea of its kind to use real Welsh honey in the form of flakes – as opposed to synthetic honey flavouring used in other products. Bee Good to Yourself is a refreshing blend of green tea, with blackberries and wildflowers that gives something back to nature by supporting community-based pollinator projects across the country.” Head over to www.welshbrewtea.co.uk for more information.

Christina and James’ romance quickly blossomed, and they celebrated their love with an intimate wedding at The Coal Exchange Images courtesy of Morgan James Photography
C
hristina and James met online and quickly fell in love. “We got along really well,” says Christina. “He surprised me by proposing while we were on holiday in Venice. He did it while we were on a gondola tour of the city, and it was incredibly romantic.” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day...
23 23
The Coal Exchange has always been a special place for us. We based our wedding around live music, and wanted a property that reflected that. When we saw that the hotel, which had once been a music venue, was available it fit our idea perfectly. We visited it during a wedding fair and instantly fell in love.
Our favours were personalised guitar picks with our date and venue on. We also gave our guests face masks, hand sanitiser, tea bags, bottles of whiskey and sweets.
To reflect our love of music, we chose autumnal flowers accompanied with images of album covers for our centrepieces.
My bouquet was made by About Flowers and included roses, celosias and petrol berries. 24
I felt very nervous but excited on the morning of the wedding. We were able to stream the ceremony for our guests that couldn’t make it. As I was fashionably late, there were lots of comments on the stream saying I was too busy making tea!
REAL WEDDINGS
I fell in love with a Justin Alexander white mermaid dress with a lace top from Perfection Bridal Cardiff.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we weren’t allowed a disco but replaced it with socially distanced party games including badminton, limbo and inflatable bowling. These went down a storm with our guests. We were also meant to have a musician play, but due to restrictions, this wasn’t allowed, so he recorded a message and song for us to play at the wedding instead.
James wore a Dyfed Menswear navy tweed suit with a grey waistcoat, burnt orange tie and pocket square.
My bridesmaids chose beautiful grey full-length gowns from Mix Bridal.
We had originally planned to go to Japan for our honeymoon but due to the pandemic, we had to cancel. Instead, we settled for a food tour of Wales. We spent the first night at The Whitebrook Restaurant With Rooms followed by a two-night stay in Betws-y-Coed and finished with a night stay at Ynyshir. 25

REAL WEDDINGS
L
eena and Neil met in 2012 at a music festival in Derbyshire. “It was the last night and I decided to enjoy a few drinks with some friends,” says Leena. “In one of the tents, we saw three handsome guys and started talking to them. I was attracted to Neil’s looks and the fact he paid attention when we had a chat together. He loved my red lips and Scandinavian looks.” Four years later, Neil proposed during a getaway to Southwold Beach in Norfolk. “We were enjoying a trip with our eldest daughter, and I was eight months pregnant with our second,” shares the bride. “I was watching the waves and as I turned around our daughter, Lumi, was holding a box with a beautiful ring, and Neil was down on one knee. We had been talking about getting married for a few years, but I was still incredibly surprised.”
SETTING THE SCENE “We decided to get married in the Brecon Beacons as I love the area,” shares Leena. “After looking at a few commercialised wedding venues, we drove up to Penpont and met with Davina Hogg, the owner, who still lives in the estate. I was amazed by the beautiful gardens, the cleanliness of the property and the overall atmosphere. We were able to rent the venue for the weekend, so my oversea friends and family could stay. Penpont felt personal and meaningful. I cried after we left and knew it was the place for us.” For their favours, the couple gave their guests Welsh love spoons that went down a treat. “Our reception was in the stables,” adds the bride. “We opted for flowers on the tables to create a very minimalistic but rustic look. For our seating chart, we mixed our international friends with British guests to help create interesting conversations." The happy couple chose white and green wildflowers mixed with fragranced roses. “Brecon Blooms provided our arrangements,” says Leena. “She lives a few miles from the venue and grew everything in her garden. The flowers were very important to me, so we placed them in different spots around the venue. We also had decorative birdcages which we used at the ceremony and moved later in the day.” “Our cake was a three-tier creation with edible white and green flowers,” explains the bride. “It was a mixture of chocolate butter with cloudberry jam and vanilla butter. We also had a smaller chocolate gluten-free bake from Cakes Especially. For our catering, we hired Prickly Pear to cook and serve our food. It was important to us that our friends and family enjoyed themselves and drunk as much as they wanted without having to pay for anything. Everything was delicious, and many of our guests still remember the food.”
DRESSED TO IMPRESS Leena opted for a Ronald Joyce dress called Jamie from Fleur de Lys Bridal. “I wanted something simple and classy,” shares the bride. “I accessorised with Jimmy Choo heels, diamond earrings and a small headpiece.” Neil and the groomsmen wore T.M. Lewis black dinner suits with bow ties. “My bridesmaids came from Norway and Finland, so we couldn’t buy the same dress for all four ladies,” explains Leena. “They all wore something different, but in a blue colour palette with matching bouquets. One of my maids even made her dress, which was wonderful!”
29
TIME TO CELEBRATE “During the ceremony we had the Brecon and District Male Choir perform,” says Leena. “They sang Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love when I walked down the aisle. For the children, we had an entertainer called Janina Vigurs Storytelling who set up a beautiful tipi at the front lawn and entertained the children with stories and giant bubbles. In the evening, we had a band called Peaky Blinder who we hired through Wedding Bands Wales. We also had a DJ from the same place perform when the band was on a break.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS “We felt excited, happy and relieved on the morning of the wedding,” recalls the bride. “We wanted a relaxed day where everyone had fun without worrying about anything. I felt so emotional seeing my two little girls in their pretty dresses, and they were so excited that it just added to our excitement. People were falling on the floor from all the dancing and free drinks and had a great time. Neil did a beautiful speech that made everyone laugh and cry, and my cousin and her husband surprised us by performing a Finnish wedding waltz. It was amazing and made the day so special.”
HONEYMOON “We went to Venice a couple of months after the wedding,” explains the bride. “We stayed for a long weekend in the Hilton Molino Stucky, which was beautiful. We planned it together and loved spending time just the two of us. We ate way too much pizza and drunk lots of white wine.”

❤ Lots of musicians have demo recordings on their websites, have a listen and decide whether their style is right for you. ❤ Discuss with your supplier how much room they’ll need for their instruments. ❤ Ask how long each performance will last so you can create a schedule. ❤ Find out if the performers require food or a space to get ready in. ❤ If you’d had to seat friends and family who don’t know each other together, why not add a little jar full of ice-breaker questions on the table? ❤ Most musicians will learn a specific song that means a lot to you both. ❤ If you can’t afford fireworks on your big day, then sparklers are a fun alternative. ❤ Ask each of your guests to write their favourite song on their rsvp, so you have a ready-made playlist. 41

YOUR VISION IS OUR MISSION! “We had June DJ our entire wedding from start till finish, she did an outstanding job. Not only was the music fantastic (everyone on the dance floor), she went above and beyond on the lighting and the LED dance floor so the venue looked incredible. She recorded all of our speeches which is wonderful to have as a memory. I would highly recommend SG Discos” - Theo & Kathleen If you are waiting for things to return to normal, we will move your booking as many times are needed with no charge subject to date availability.

EXPERT ADVICE
www.paul-daviesphotography.co.uk
HOT TOPIC:
WEDDING WORRIES Our experts solve your problems
LOVE THROUGH A LENS
The first thing you need to do is a little research. Ask friends and family for recommendations and look at various websites to get an idea of what style you like. Every photographer has their own technique, so if you want a particular look, check to see if it’s something they can offer. ❤ We tend to get booked up 12 to 18 months in advance, so start by seeing if your chosen supplier is available on your date. It’s important you meet in person to find out more about their work and decide whether you gel with them. Ask to see a few wedding albums of the whole day instead of just a few select pictures. ❤ What are their packages and prices? How much is the deposit and when does the balance need to be paid? Find out if there are any extra costs for a second shooter or travel expenses. It’s also worth looking at their packages and seeing if they offer half or full-day options. ❤ Do they have insurance? All professional photographers should have Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance. ❤ How long do they stay? I usually start around two-and-a-half hours before the ceremony and stay until an hour after the first dance or later if there are fireworks. ❤ Have they shot at your venue before? If I haven’t, I would usually go and check it out beforehand and speak to the wedding coordinator. ❤ Do you need to feed them? Usually yes if they’re staying after the wedding breakfast. A lot of venues will feed the photographer, but some will charge you. ❤ Do you need to make a list of shots? Most do the standard groups, but if you have something in mind, ask your photographer. ❤ Finally, I always recommend that the happy couple take out wedding insurance just in case they have to cancel or postpone. It’s very cheap and could save you a lot of money in the long run. Paul Davies | Photographer www.paul-daviesphotography.co.uk

Q – What should we ask a potential photographer before booking?
STYLED TO PERFECTION
Q – We’re having a rustic-themed wedding in a gorgeous barn. Do you have any ideas of how we can style it? The joy of a barn is that they are often blank canvases. You don’t have the colour of the carpet, curtains or walls to take into account, meaning you often have infinite freedom when it comes to styling. Here are some of our top styling tips: ❤ Create an atmosphere with lighting. We love a festoon bulb strung from a beam. Stone walls look great with up-lighters against them and candles are a clever way of creating an intimate and inviting space. ❤ Use height to your advantage. Barns often have high ceilings and beams on which you can attach decorations. They’re great for hanging flowers, bunting or string lights. You could use draping to create a more glamorous look or cover beams with greenery or floral garlands. ❤ The un-fussy nature of a barn setting lends itself perfectly to a more opulent table display, even if you want to keep the rustic theme, you can go for a more chic look by bringing in elegant features, such as cut glassware. ❤ If you have a large barn, create areas of interest, such as a lounge area or interactive zones. SLICE AS NICE
STAR OF THE SHOW
Q – My mother and mother-in-law want to wear spring colours to fit the time of year but don’t want to clash or outshine each other. Do you have any suggestions?
6020 by Gill Harvey
Traditionally, when it comes to mums choosing their outfits for such a momentous occasion, the mother-of-the-bride gets first dibs. However, here at Baroque Boutique, we like to take a more modern approach – why not make a day of it with both mums involved? The opportunity presents the perfect chance for them to get to know each other, so consider taking them both shopping. We appreciate it isn’t always possible to meet faceto-face, but like many other shops, we’ve embraced technology and are running virtual shopping experiences. However it’s done, the mums need to give themselves time to discuss the wedding theme, style and what one another is looking for in an outfit. Have open, honest discussions to ensure nobody steps on each other’s toes. With regards to colour, focus on complementing and not clashing. One suggestion is to pick up a hue from the corresponding bridal party. The mother-of-the-bride could concentrate on the bridesmaids’ dresses while the mother-of-thegroom focuses on the groomsmen’s outfits. The most important thing is not to match the bridal party as you don’t want them to get lost in the photographs. Spring offers a beautiful array of pastel shades to work with, so it should be easy to ensure either side is dressed in a different colour – especially when you factor in complexion and what suits. However, we urge mums not to be frightened of brighter, bolder tones that work within the wedding theme. This year the spring shades set by Pantone inspire happiness and positivity. Pastel pinks and soft beiges are beautiful but also a little safe. Instead, why not experiment with hues like pepper stem and tomatillo? These captivating shades of green are an earthy neutral colour that complements most other tones. Blush beauty is a version of coral pink which offers a warm pop and is equally spellbinding on the right complexion. Just be wary that each mum is dressing for themselves and what works for them. Comfort is necessary to exert confidence and allow them to enjoy your special day. Coryn Emma Mother-of-the-bride specialist www.baroqueboutique.co.uk 44
Q – We’re having a summer wedding and want light flavours for our wedding cake. Do you have any suggestions? A summer wedding is the perfect time to incorporate fruit into your wedding cake. Orange is underrated, but it’s light and refreshing. Elderflower is another light, delicate flavour that teams well with fresh lemon and tastes like the British countryside. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle even had this flavour for their big-day bake. Two of my absolute favourites are raspberry and strawberry. I don’t use artificial flavouring, but the addition of freeze-dried strawberries or raspberries can create a beautiful flavour to a light, soft sponge. Jenny Leeb-Du Toit Wedding cake specialist www.cakesespecially.com
SETTING THE TONE Q – I’m so excited about our wedding and want to ensure everyone can make it. When should we send our invitations, and what tips can you share when it comes to creating a bespoke design?
Traditionally, save-the-dates are sent out one year before your wedding. However, I often find that couples want to send them out even earlier, which is perfectly fine too. I always advise people to do things at their own pace, but I would avoid sending them earlier than 18 months beforehand as guests may lose the card or forget! I recommend you send your main wedding invitations out three to six months before the wedding. It’s important to give your guests plenty of time to rsvp and your venue enough notice. Did you know a lot of modern properties have their own rsvp and menu deadlines in place? Be sure to check with your venue, caterer or wedding planner to ensure everyone is in sync. When it comes to creating a bespoke design, start by collecting pieces of inspiration to share with your stationery supplier. My favourite places to browse are Instagram and Pinterest, or you could even go old-school and create a moodboard with magazine cuttings. We don’t just want to see designs that you love, we also want to see colour schemes, flowers, bridesmaids’ dresses, venue styling and wedding cakes. This creates a vision in our minds of the style you want to achieve and is the best way to help us design bespoke stationery that fits perfectly into your overall vision. It gave us something to get excited about after a terrible year of business.” 49

BERRY NICE
Natura Siberica has launched an affordable vegan-certified range of beauty products based exclusively on altai oblepikha berries, a rich source of vitamin C. From face masks to serums, the C-Berrica collection has it all. I like the sound of the Renewal Foaming Face Powder (£8.49), which foams gently when it meets water and cleanses your skin, helping to remove impurities and make-up residue. Plus, its BHA acids improve skin texture speeding up cell renewal and deep cleans pores. Discover the full collection at www.naturasiberica.co.uk
No need for needles! CLEAN AND CLEAR
We all know about the barrage of environmental abuse our facial skin battles on a daily basis, but what about our scalps? They too are faced with the impact of sweat, pollution, and various styling products. Centred creative director Kieran Tudor says, “Good scalp health is crucial for strong, healthy, beautiful hair, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to hair care regimes.” A deeply nourishing blend of olive, argan and hemp oils, Centred En-Root Scalp Treatment replenishes moisture to dry brittle hair, while exfoliating the scalp and removing product build up and dead skin cells. What’s more, the blend of rosemary and peppermint essential oils stimulates blood flow to the hair follicles maximising hair growth potential. Priced at £36 from www.wearecentred.com
Self-tanning fave Skinny Tan has unveiled its latest product – Notox Beauty Elixir. It’s a smoothing, plumping facial serum specifically formulated to supply your skin with instant anti-aging effects and a glowing gradual selftan. Using stoechiol naturally derived from butterfly lavender, it immobilises wrinkles and re-densifies the epidermis leading to a rapid and lasting reduction in the depth of express lines. So, say “no” to Botox, and “yes” to Notox! Getting Zoom-ready and embracing the minimal make-up look has never been easier. Notox Beauty Elixir is available at www.skinnytan.co.uk, priced at £19.99.

amed for her flawless skin, popular TV personality Jess Wright is a busy, gogetting woman. Whether she’s on a shoot, busy filming, hosting her podcast – Girls #NoFilter, planning next year’s wedding to William Lee-Kemp, or hard at work in her role as Crystal Clear’s first celebrity ambassador, her perfect skin is the envy of all. Keen to know her secret, CWM beauty editor Kelly Andrews sat down for a chat with the reality star to get the lowdown, just for you! Jess, thanks for making time in your hectic schedule to talk to us and huge congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. How do you imagine your big day? Thank you! I imagine it to be beautiful, full of love and hopefully classy. As long as I’m surrounded by my family and loved ones, that’s the most important thing. How did William propose? He did it on the balcony of our beautiful hotel room in the mountains in Courchevel. It was both spectacular and amazing. What’s your vision for your bridal beauty look? Good skin is the perfect base so I’ll be prepping with some fab Crystal Clear COMCIT facials in the run up to the big day for sure. Then I’ll want my make-up to be slightly natural, with that dewy glow and some wispy lashes.
Absolutely
FLAWLESS
Our beauty editor caught up with Jess Wright to discuss wedding plans and just how she achieves that perfect complexion

Do you have a picture of your dream dress in mind? I’ve tried on so many dresses, but I definitely have a vision. I think I’ve chosen the one. Completely understand you playing the cards close to your chest there! We look forward to the surprise. As the voice of experience, can you share with us your top wedding planning tips? I’d say, make sure you have a good wedding planner. Also, do the guest list, but don’t send the invitations out until later, as it’ll definitely alter as time goes on! So many couples have been forced to re-plan their weddings as a result of the pandemic. Have you encountered any such difficulties and do you have any advice for other couples facing the same challenges? We’ve considered moving the wedding, but
BEAUTY INTERVIEW
at the minute it’s a day-by-day update, so we’re going to make the final decision in the spring. If you’re not time restricted, I’d say move yours to 2022 if possible, so you can really enjoy the process rather than struggling through the pandemic. Leading a jam-packed celebrity lifestyle while planning a wedding must make you an extremely busy lady! How do you juggle it all while still looking fabulous and flawless? I love keeping busy, so I was really excited about planning a wedding on top of my already hectic lifestyle, but unfortunately
that hasn’t happened as the pandemic and various lockdowns have slowed me down. It has meant though that I’ve had plenty of time on my hands to plan the wedding! What are your make-up bag must haves? I love Chanel foundation for a quick matte bronze. Also, a good eyebrow pencil and a nourishing lip balm. I always keep the Crystal Clear Beach Glow Tanning Drops in my kit too. They’re amazing for adding a subtle glow to your skin and you can dial it up depending on the depth of colour you’re looking for. Tell us why you love Crystal Clear. I’m so excited to be chosen as the first ever ambassador for Crystal Clear Skincare. Their products are my holy grail and having tried so many different brands over the years, I just love the results you get with Crystal Clear, so it’s amazing to be working with the brand. The range is extensive with something to suit all skin types and concerns. The Ionic Sonic2 Microdermabrasion Kit is my ultimate secret to Insta-ready, super-cleansed skin. I’m also a big fan of the salon treatments, especially the COMCIT facial. It really is the most fantastic treatment for softer, firmer and hydrated skin.
Which is your favourite product from the range? I’d have to say The Lifting Wand, one of the brand’s beauty tools. It comes with its pharma-grade product, which is packed with hyaluronic acid. You use it for 60 seconds every day and it gives you deep hydration, depuffs eyes, plumps skin and lifts it. It’s really easy to use and fits into your daily routine. For a quick skin fix, I’d also highly recommend the 10 Minute Glow Mask, which literally does what it says on the tin and gives you glowing skin in just 10 minutes. It’s incredibly satisfying to peel off as well! What’s your number one beauty tip for brides? Focus on your skin. Glowing skin is the best thing on your wedding day in terms of beauty, so do whatever you need to make it feel its best. Finally, what’s next for you? Hopefully my wedding! Also, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, the musical I’m in. This is all dependant on the pandemic though. Sending my love to everyone at this time. STEP INTO SPRING
Q – We’re getting married next spring. What would you suggest for my hair and make-up? Spring weddings make me think of soft romantic hair, relaxed curls with fresh flowers or a beautiful up do with lots of texture. For your make-up, I suggest keeping the colours very neutral. Golds and browns or blush pinks and nude tones paired with a soft liner are always popular. Don’t go for anything too heavy and finish the look with natural, fluffy lashes. For your base, I would use a light-weight foundation to give your complexion a fresh dewy look. Pair it with a blush lip painted with a hint of colour but nothing too bold to help enhance your natural beauty. Natalie Mace | Hair and make-up artist www.beaubridalmakeup.co.uk
THE ONE FOR ME
Q – There are so many make-up artists out there. How do I find the person that’s right for me?

Q&A
Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best
BEST DRESSED GIRLS
Q – I’m having three bridesmaids who are all different shapes and sizes. How can I find a dress that suits them all?
Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. You will receive a beautiful album created by your photographer, and every time you look inside, it will bring back memories of the day where you looked and felt gorgeous. I cannot stress how important it is to find the right person to do your make-up. The perfect artist is the one who knows how to listen to and understand your needs. They will work with you to create a once in a lifetime look. A good supplier will always recommend a trial and consultation before the wedding. They should give you choices, and never pressure you to book with them. Maya Jasinska | Hair and make-up artist www.loxushairandmakeup.com
A SMOOTH BASE
Q – How do I care for my skin in the run-up to my big day?
It’s difficult to find bridesmaids who are the same size, even sisters can be different shapes. ❤ Try mixing and matching different styles but in the same colour and fabric and let your girls choose which one they prefer. ❤ Multi-way gowns are a popular choice but can be worn in various ways to complement different body shapes. ❤ Fitted tops and floaty chiffon skirts are great for most body types. Chiffon is not as clingy as some materials and helps to accommodate curves, but still looks pretty on smaller frames. ❤ A dress with a fitted or crossover top that’s pulled in at the waist and ruched at the side and back is incredibly flattering. ❤ Sweetheart and V necklines look good on most people as it helps elongate the neck.
You cannot ignore the benefits of drinking lots of water and eating your five a day, so get on board with both at least six months before the wedding. When it comes to your skincare, make you sure you remove your make-up before bed and cleanse, preferably twice a day, using a toner and moisturiser straight after. I recommend products that are PH balanced. PH 5.5 helps the skin to balance itself and not have to fight products that are too acidic or have too much alkaline. Breaking down the PH of the skin leaves it vulnerable to infections, acne, spots and dryness. For a base, use a good primer without silicon. I always recommend Illamasqua Matte or Hydra Veil Primer followed by MAC Pro-Longwear Waterproof Foundation.

Finishing Touch Flawless Dermaplane Glo, £19.99 Available at Argos, ASDA, Boots, Tesco and Wilko Dermaplaning as a salon treatment has been around for a while, and quite frankly the very thought of it has always terrified me. So, I wasn’t too sure what to expect of this tool. I did my research on the benefits, genned up on this super-useful tutorial and I was ready to go. Wow, I don’t know what I was so worried about. It was easy to do and took no more than five to 10 minutes. Probably 10 for me as I got a bit addicted and couldn’t stop – I don’t recommend that though. It’s an incredibly satisfying process seeing all of that peach fuzz and dead skin disappear. I couldn’t believe how smooth my skin felt afterwards. Leave your skin to rest for around eight hours afterwards before you apply any skin products or make-up as it’s quite an intense exfoliation process, then repeat every two to four weeks. I can’t wait to see how regular use improves my skin further. I’m definitely sold on dermaplaning!

Kevyn Aucoin Kaleidochrome All-Over Highlight Palette, £39 www.lookfantastic.com This multi-tasking palette offers four shades of highlight suitable whatever the look you’re going for. I particularly loved the darker rose Space Party, which I used on my cheeks over my blusher for a radiant glow and Super Cosmic, which I added to the arch of my eyebrows and very top of my cheekbones. It really brought a multi-dimensional look to my make-up that can be tailored for day or night.
Eve Lom Radiance Transforming Mask, £65 www.spacenk.com I was surprised to find a balm texture when I first removed the lid, so was interested to see how this would go. Using the supplied spatula to remove the required amount of mask from the tub, I opted for generous dollop and began to massage it into my face as instructed. Its thick formula felt incredibly luxurious and I could already tell it was going to provide a pampering experience. I was particularly delighted by the advice to leave for a minimum of 30 minutes, which gave me an excuse to relax for a decent amount of time – none of this 10 minutes rubbish! When it was time to remove with warm water, I was delighted to find my skin looking renewed, beautifully supple and glowing.
PUT A SPRING IN YOUR STEP CWM’s beauty editor puts this season’s best buys to the test creating a head-to-toe makeover session you’ll love
Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Lip Duo, £18 www.sculptedbyaimee.com I’m a huge advocate for lip liners and their myriad benefits, but I do struggle to know which shade goes with which lipstick, find the two become separated and will admit to resenting buying both in the first place. So, these Lip Duos are a blessing! Not only are they perfectly colour matched offering you two products for the average price of one, but if your make-up bag is already packed, like mine, they offer a smart solution. I tried Mauve Match, which is a versatile neutral shade, ideal for everyday wear.
No Secrets One Body Jelly, £49 www.nosecretsbeauty.com This jellied body oil smells absolutely incredible with No Secrets’ signature blend of essential oils – bergamot, juniper, petitgrain, eucalyptus and lavender. Less messy than a traditional body oil, you just need to massage a little in at a time for smooth and beautifully soft skin. Plus, the amazing fragrance lasts. Perfect for a pamper. 72
Margaret Dabbs Cracked Heel Treatment, £18 www.margaretdabbs.co.uk Let me start by confessing that my heels are horrendous, always cracked and dry and nothing I try makes a difference. Until now that is. This product was well and truly put through its paces by my horrible hooves and the results were instant. After just one application the sandpaper effect was gone and with continued use it really is a miracle worker. It’s my new beauty essential, and I can’t wait to get the flip flops on!

Retreat to ty the ci
Hannah Faulder visits The Marylebone, and finds out that it offers the best of both worlds for a minimoon in the capital
A
s the country prepared for Lockdown Part II, my husband and I managed to sneak in a last-minute escape to the city to enjoy a much-needed retreat at The Marylebone. Nestled in the hotel’s supertrendy namesake neighbourhood, between the Georgian Welbeck Street and the partpedestrianised Marylebone Lane, you’re just a short walk from London’s most famous Monopoly locations, from Bond Street to Mayfair. Stepping out for a stroll from the hotel, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’re in a bustling Cotswolds village – that is until you happen upon Oxford Street. But this is what makes it such a wonderful destination for a minimoon or post-wedding break: it’s close to the action, but it provides a tranquil retreat from it too.
STAY Cross the threshold, and you’ll find a neutral palette offsets the pops of colour and modern paintings on the walls perfectly. Look carefully, and you’ll notice a subtle design scheme reflecting the four seasons as you walk through the hotel. Following an extensive refurbishment, the striking decor extends throughout, and no luxurious touch has been spared. Classic timber flooring, marble-topped counters and wood panelling blend seamlessly with curated artwork and designer furniture. There’s a
whole host of event spaces too for weddings and celebrations with real character; I particularly loved the verdant Palm Room and the sociable al fresco terraces. Our corner suite was chic and fresh, its spacious circular layout houses a small kitchen area, complete with Nespresso machine, a sumptuous living area, dining table and huge marshmallowy bed. “We could live here,” my husband and I kept saying to each other. We sat, champagne in hand, and gazed out of the window over the pretty streets of Marylebone with the city lights glittering in the distance; it had a distinct Mary Poppins vibe. The striking marble bathroom boasted a huge bath, walk-in shower and trendy Malin+Goetz toiletries. The welcome pack with COVIDsafe goodies like hand sanitiser was gratefully received, and the hotel clearly states all the measures it has taken to look after guests’ wellbeing. Looking to really treat yourself and your loved one? The super-stylish Marylebone Suite has a showstopping cedar-clad terrace, with a retractable roof, awesome vistas and an outdoor TV and fireplace – it’s certainly memorable! While you’re here, why not treat yourself to some R&R in the Third Space Health Club, with its gym and 18m pool.
EAT We dragged ourselves away from the champagne and fluffy robes long enough to enjoy the hotel’s restaurant, 108 Brasserie. This is not a typical hotel restaurant, more a fabulous eatery for locals and tourists alike
that just happens to be attached. Set on the cobbles of Marylebone Lane, the outdoor seating with patio heaters makes it look so inviting. Inside, you’ll find traditional style with a modern edge, from rich upholstery and parquet flooring to antique mirrors and decadent florals. The meals on the globally inspired menu feature fresh ingredients with a focus on seasonality. Yummy burrata, salads and decadent desserts were the order of the day, making the restaurant a mustvisit for guests.
EXPLORE The next morning, we treated ourselves to a full English breakfast (one vegetarian) in bed, with hearty portions served under silver cloches, before heading out on foot to explore the neighbourhood. This soon turned into a wonderful day strolling through the nearby Royal Parks, spotting parrots and pelicans before ducking into a café for a takeaway coffee as we meandered up The Mall to take in Buckingham Palace. Next up was a stroll through Hyde Park and into the shopping mecca that is Oxford Street before heading back for a quiet drink at the hotel’s bar – perfection! If you don’t get the best weather, though, the capital’s attractions are within easy reach on public transport – or you could just hunker down in your room and luxuriate in your newly wedded bliss.
