How to Use Guide for Freight Messenger
What is Freight Messenger (FM)? Freight Messenger (FM) is a brand new tool that allows fast and secure communication between Exchange members making it easy to agree / discuss jobs, prices or any industry related news. Freight Messenger can be accessed by clicking the following icon, located in the Notification Bar at the bottom right of your screen.
You can change your status by clicking on the selecting the appropriate status.

Please note that selecting the offline status will prevent messages coming in and prevent you from sending messages.

You can start chatting to all other users of your company Exchange account instantly as they are all automatically added to a group named ‘My Company’. Click on the name of the colleague you want to start a conversation with. You can open a maximum of 10 separate conversations at any one time.

Chat with other Exchange members In order to chat with another Exchange user, you will first need to add them as a contact, by sending them a connection request (like you do with Skype). Click on the ‘Add Contact’ icon.
Start searching for the Exchange member by typing their company name or Exchange ID number in the ‘Search Company’ box. Select the member from the suggested results.

A list of users will be displayed. Tick which users from this company you would like to connect with and then click the green ‘Send Connection Request’ button. Each user you have selected will be sent an email request asking them if they are happy to connect with you.
Once they accept your invitation you will be able to start messaging each other.

View your sent requests by clicking on the ‘Connection Requests’ icon .
A list of your connection requests will be displayed on the right hand side.

If you have received a connection request, this will be indicated with a red circle and the number of received requests.
You can then decide if you want to accept or decline the request.

Useful features: Clicking the arrow to the left of the Freight Messenger logo, will mimimise the messenger so that just the roster is displayed. This will allow continued use of the Exchange, with the messenger still open.
Clicking on the icon in the top right corner of the messenger will undock and open the messenger in a new window. Very useful if you have 2 screens or simply want to keep the messenger and the Exchange in separate windows. Freight Messenger is a secure, member-only system for business communications.
The cog icon in the bottom right hand corner will present you with options that will allow you to decide if your company is visible to other Exchange users when they perform a search. This feature allows you to keep the messenger as a tool you use internally within your company only if you wish to.
Clicking on the speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner will turn the ‘ping’ that notifies you of a new message off and on. 7

Hovering over a member in the contact list will bring up a popup with their name, company name, ID, phone number and email addresss.
Once a contact has accepted your connection request and you start chatting, clicking on their company name next to their profile icon will open their accreditation details in an overlay.

Clicking on the button will open the ‘Direct Booking’ form. Once the booking has been confirmed it will automatically appear on the receiving member’s notification bar and in their diary. You can read your past chats by selecting the time period you would like to see. The past messages option can be found in the bottom right corner of the message field.
If you message a member who is offline, your message will be saved and delivered as soon as they come back online. An email advising them of your attempt to contact them will be sent automatically. When you confirm a job it will automatically appear in both parties’ diary with a button allowing you to discuss any details with the other member.

You can also access the chat from the Directory allowing you fast and easy communication with other Exchange members within your area.
Please remember that if you have an active job booked to another member on the Exchange, you can message them without sending a connection request but only for the duration of the booking.
