SCULPTURE
Halo, 2013, Indian Ink on 110GSM Paper, 190x230mm
‘Halo’, ‘Bound’, and ‘Nest are sculptures I created with string and twine. The sculptures were created as a part of a series of sculptures I created which were inspired by Judith Scott, who found items and wrapped them in string. I wrapped the string around itself to create thick forms, which began to bend and form into it’s own shape. The whole series was created for Wintec and personal viewing.

PAINTING I created my abstract paintings for Wintec and personal viewing. My painting series are inspired by magazine advertisements for fashion and perfumes. Instead of recreating the advertisements I focused on the basic shapes and forms and turned the advertisement into an abstract form. I used examples of the colours and textures in the advertisement to put into my own work. In Black and White I focused on the colours used in the advertisement and converted them into geometric shapes, to focus on the tones and colours rather than the image and subject matter. Red Dress was an exploration of paint thickness, textures and colour. I used examples of the drapery in the dress and recreated the effect by adding layers of thick acrylic paint and using tape to give the painting a sharp edge. I used a dry brush to recreate the rough, rock background and blended colours and used a very thin paint layer to contrast with the thick red paint.

PAINTING
Teapot Drawing, 2010, 2B Pencil on 110GSM Paper, 190x120mm
In 2010 I created a tea themed painting. The work was created for a NCEA assessments, so was created to be viewed by those assessing my work and myself. It is a thin acrylic paint that is slightly unblended. The purpose of the works was for me to explore compositions and I found with a tea setting, I had a range of compositions I could use. I looked at Pieter Claesz for inspiration, as he had interesting table settings and compositions. Pieter paints close ups of breakfast settings and everyday items.

GRAPHICS - DEVELOPMENT
Childrens Playground Detail Drawing, 2010, 2B Pencil on 120GSM, 420 x 297 mm
Childrens Playground In 2010 I created a children’s playground plan for NCEA level 2, which was created for children of the ages 3-8 and include 2 educational features, of which I used the tunnel and slide. I drew up the many plans to show how this playground would function, be created and what the overall outcome would look like. I used a thin 2B pencil and drew up the final to be viewed by my classmates and for myself. My inspirations were playgrounds around Hamilton such as Raymond Park and Donny Park. I looked at their structures and how they were put together.

TYPEFACE

their early 20’s for a face wash. I created a quirky, yet feminine typeface that was simple, elegant and interesting by making the typeface rounded and slightly flicked out at the ends. My type was designed through Adobe Illustrator CS6. I researched other brands such as Olay, Garnier and Dove. They all used very simple typefaces that were quite round and had very few details.

GRAPHIC DESIGN - CONCEPTS My graphic design posters are made to advertise a young woman’s perfume. I had to make a black and white poster as well as a colour poster that only used 2 colours and white, the posters were also required to use small and large text. My audience is young women, aged 18-25 years old and I used Adobe Illustrator CS6 to create the poster designs. I chose my final products based on their feminine illustrations as well as their interesting composition. My inspiration for the poster images come from Agnes Cecile, who is a painter who paints portraiture of young women, emphasising on their features.

I have chosen 10 of my best photographs which explore shallow depth of field, close ups, textures and compositions. I looked at Mark Adams and Steve McCurry for inspiration for my portraiture. My idea for my portraiture was to explore emotions through close up photographs. I took photographs of people in a set up photo shoot and also took photographs of people while they weren’t suspecting it. My close up landscape photographs explored a shallow depth of field and textures. My artist model for those photographs was Terri Moore and Sangkom Suwannarat, who photographed close ups of plant life and landscape. Both photo shoots were created for Wintec viewing.

VOLUNTEER AND COMMUNITY WORK
Interpersonal Skills
• I worked in a crèche with 3 other students. We had to help clean and organise the children’s paper work and entertain the children outside.0
• Working at New World gave me the excellent experience to work in a team environment as well as required me to deal with difficult situations with customers. I overcame difficult situations by calmly asking what exactly the issue is and then describing what we can do to overcome or remedy the issue. • I work with a variety of bilingual customers, young children and elderly customers often, which demands a high level of communication skills. By simply being kind, patient, calm and understanding it helps the customers feel valued and makes their experience in the store a little more pleasant. Time and Management Skills • I am able to prioritize my study load, personal life and work responsibilties and still maintain a healthy llifestyle and submit my assignments on time. Computer Skills • I have some knowledge of web design as both my parents work in the IT industry. •
