MAKING MOVES Graduate Placement Opportunity, Glasshouse Studio, Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa Warwick District Council in partnership with Coventry University are seeking an enthusiastic West Midlands based Craft or Design recent graduate (3 years max), for an artist placement at The GlasshouseStudio attached to the Temperate House in Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa’scentrally situated historic pleasure gardens. The placement offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced mid-career artist resident as part of the Arts Council funded Making Moves project. The residency will begin January/February 2012 and be completed by April 2012. Inspiration for the residency comes from the unique, captivating & sometimes hidden (hi)stories both past & present that have contributed to the culture & heritage of Leamington Spa& its diverse communities. The resident artist will be working with community groups which are likely to include people from migrant communities &/or recently arrived young migrants, and the graduate placement will work alongside the artist with these groups. The successful placement candidate will: • work with the resident artist supporting the delivery of sessions with the participants • develop their own work • receive a £500 Graduate Development Award towards materials and start up costs • receive up to 10 hours of mentoring from the artist regarding their career and practice development • be given a space for online reflection and promotion on the Making Moves blog • have accessto HE facilities and observe a master class at Coventry University • participate in a regional touring exhibition showcasing the work of resident artists and graduate placements from across the Making Moves programme. There may also be the opportunity to exhibit the work at Leamington SpaArt Gallery & Museum • Have the opportunity to participate in a cross regional project & its events In return, we require a candidate who will: • contribute to the Making Moves blog with a journal of their experience • contribute actively and professionally to the artists residency and participatory sessions • commit up to 5 whole days towards engaging with the artist in residence and up to 5 whole days in developing their own work between January/February and April 2012 • be involved in planning and delivering a residency sharing/exhibition at the end of the residency Making Moves is a craft development initiative led by Staffordshire County Council and Craftspace. This partnership has evolved across the West Midlands pairing four Higher Education (HE) institutions with a range of Local Authority Arts Development Services. Making Moves will generate nine craft residencies, a touring exhibition, and opportunities for students, graduates & professional artist makers.
