MAKING MOVES Graduate Placement Opportunity, Solihull Solihull MBC is seeking an enthusiastic West Midlands based Craft or Design graduate (2 years max), for a volunteer artist placement at Kingshurst Arts Space in North Solihull (Birmingham border). The placement offers the opportunity to work alongside the resident designer maker, as part of the Making Moves project. Making Moves is a craft development initiative led by Staffordshire County Council and Craftspace. The project involves four sub-regional partnerships across the West Midlands, between Higher Education (HE) institutions and Local Authority Arts Development Officers and will generate nine craft residencies, leading to a regional touring exhibition. The residency will run between February and March 2012. The residency is working in partnership with elderly residents that live independently near to the Arts Space and the graduate placement will work alongside the artist with this group. The successful placement candidate will: - work with the resident artist supporting the delivery of sessions with the participants - develop their own work - receive a ÂŁ500 bursary towards materials and start up costs. - receive up to 10 hours of mentoring from the artist regarding their career and practice development - be given a space for online reflection and promotion on the Making Moves blog - 'Have access to facilities and observe a masterclass or lecture by the resident artist' The work in progress developed through the placement will be included a regional touring exhibition, showcasing the work of resident artists and graduate placements from across the Making Moves programme. In return, we require a candidate who will: - contribute to the Making Moves blog with a journal of their experience - contribute actively and professionally to the artists residency and participatory sessions - commit up to 5 whole days towards engaging with the artist in residence and up to 5 whole days in developing their own work between February 2011 and March 2012 - be involved in planning and delivering a residency sharing/exhibition
