Bright Minds... Bright Futu re A BLUEprint for Success
Building on Tradition Planning the Future. Covington Catholic High School— fondly known by its students and alumni as CovCath or CCH, is synonymous with academic excellence, great sportsmanship, men of integrity and a brotherhood that lasts a lifetime. Beyond all of the academic and athletic accolades that our school has earned over the years, there’s something about Covington Catholic that inspires a loving commitment and a deep loyalty among the students who attend our school and their families. The bond starts early when a young grade school boy joins the Future Colonels Club and lasts beyond when he becomes a Golden Colonel at his 50th reunion. No matter where his life’s journey takes him, he has secured his membership in this fraternity of nearly 9,000 fellow CCH Colonels, and he always has Colonel pride in his heart. The Covington Catholic of today is one that any alumnus can be proud of, no matter when he attended. Even though the campus has changed over the years, the CovCath spirit amongst the student body remains the same. The traditions of practicing our strong Catholic faith, inspiring excellence from within, and forming the brotherhood and lifelong friendships are still very much present. We are fortunate to have some of the same beloved faculty (Hartman, Krumpelbeck, Haders, Hertsenberg, Balskus, Parrot, Rasp, Hagedorn) of the past, still adored by our students of today. The CCH of today is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art facilities and curricula relevant to the current job market while preparing our students for successful college and career opportunities. Our ACT scores and participation in the Advanced Placement courses have never been higher. As the only all-male high school in Northern Kentucky, our faculty and administration embrace the unique learning needs of young men and understand our students thrive in an environment that is challenging yet also keeps their interest; that within a code of expected conduct, there are also times that boys simply need to be boys. In addition to rigorous academic expectations, each student is encouraged to participate in a wide variety of student life opportunities. Academic and physical activities are complimented by a host of spiritual activities that include community service, international mission trips and philanthropic giving. As a result of this holistic educational environment, our students leave Covington Catholic ready for success in college and life.

Parents agree, CovCath students look forward to coming to school every day! We routinely hear from our parents that sending their son to Covington Catholic has made a big difference in his academic path. They love that it’s cool to be smart, and that the natural competitive nature of boys means doing well in the classroom is as respected as it is on the field. Parents of a Colonel share in that same pride and savor those memories of boys hanging around their house laughing and sharing their stories, all the while, knowing he received a strong, well-rounded, educational foundation for his next step in life.

Park Hills & NKAPC approve zoning change to institutional zone which allows for lights on the athletic field
The Time is NOW for Covington Catholic Aging Facilities Today, our academic building is being meticulously maintained and is providing a positive environment for our students to thrive. The rest of our campus facilities are the original buildings and have become very expensive to repair and maintain. Our plans for new facilities are not frivolous, but include amenities that are common in other school systems. Zoning Changes and Land Aquisitions The year of 2010 presented Covington Catholic with not one, but three, once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to acquire adjacent properties critical to future expansion of the campus. Through the generosity of a major donor, expertly managed fiscal school budgets and Diocesan approval, Covington Catholic was able to secure $1.7 million of property, including an additional eight acres of land and a 22,000 square foot building, while not incurring any long term debt or conducting a capital campaign. In 2012, Covington Catholic was successful in obtaining Institutional zoning for the campus and for the first time in 38 years, the Park Hills City Council and the surrounding neighbors approved the school’s request for adding lights to the athletic field which will finally allow night games and practices.
A Six-Year Trend of Increasing Admissions Several factors have contributed to a six-year trend which has seen our enrollment increase an additional 125 students and we are confident that this pattern can be sustained. We have outgrown our academic building built for 590 students.
A Changing Curriculum When the new academic building was constructed in 2003, the growth of our fine arts program and the addition of graphic arts, CAD and web design could not be anticipated. Because so many of our students pursue degrees and careers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, a comprehensive program which offers dual credit at major universities will give our students an advantage by entering college not only with college credits, but more commitment to the major they choose.

South Campus Addition & Cafeteria
Academic Facilities Our enrollment has grown consistently in the last six years, and we have reached capacity of our current school building. Demolition of the Alumni Centre (Old Church) The addition of this property in 2010 not only was critical for the expansion of our north campus, but has been invaluable in allowing us to provide alumni programming, house our advancement/alumni offices, as well as serve as practice space for academic teams and even wrestling. Much evaluation has concluded that renovating the structure would actually cost more than building new facilities for exactly what the school needs. Academic Building/STEM Wing The new Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) curriculum has specific requirements for classrooms that we do not have. This additional space will allow us to maintain small classroom ratios with our growing student body. Within this wing, a new 180 person multipurpose auditorium will accommodate our band and choir programs, guest lectures, drama program, as well as whole grade activities. South Campus Building Addition A new structure will be built between the existing cafeteria and the gymnasium to provide a separate public access from the academic areas of the school. It will include: • Advancement and Alumni Offices • Relocation of the school’s Spirit Shop • Cafeteria expansion which will also accommodate school receptions and alumni functions, and serve as an afterschool student center. • Provides an opportunity to add a viewing area into the existing gymnasium and provides ADA seating which we currently do not have. • Reconfigured parking lot and driveway North Campus Parking Lot Expansion and Storm Water Retention The addition of night games will lead to a need for additional parking for events. Reclaiming the field in front of the school for parking is included ded in the plan.

Athletic Stadium While nothing is as synonymous with high school football as “Friday Night Lights”, it is a tradition that Covington Catholic students can only experience when playing away games, until now. Our reasons for needing to add the lights escalate this as a top priority for improving our campus.
.
.
Athlete Safety Due to the number of teams Covington Catholic provides its students, our athletic field is in use from 7:00 am until dark. It is not uncommon for the field turf temperatures to reach over 100 degrees daily in the summer afternoons. Lights on the field will allow teams to practice later into the evening when temperatures have dropped to a more suitable level. It is not uncommon for our day games to be called off early due to heat.
Elements of this Phase • Athletic Turf (completed) Synthetic turf fields typically have a life span of 7-10 years. The field we replaced was 13 years old. Advancements in turf design should reduce the number of injuries athletes incur while playing on the field.

Friday Nights are for High School Football CCH is known for our school spirit, and students as well as alumni, parents and friends support athletics by their attendance at games. However, Saturday afternoons are more aptly reserved for grade school games of younger siblings, yard work, and other tasks most families fit in on the weekend. We expect our attendance at home football games to double with evening games.

Additional Components Tennis Complex Without courts on campus, our students were required to drive to various parks, tennis clubs and residences to have team practices. The CovCath tennis program is one of the top programs in the state. This complex allows us to host regional and other tournaments and opens the possibilities for student and alumni leagues. The lack of facilities for the tennis team raised the priority of this project so that our program could continue. Supporters of the CCH tennis program stepped up and raised the funds needed to construct the six tennis courts, fencing and shelter.
Growth of the Endowment While our endowment has successfully grown over the past decade (from $425,000 in 2004 to $2,300,000 in 2015) the need for tuition assistance has increased significantly and our current endowment and annual appeal are only able to satisfy half of the need. In addition to increasing the endowment for tuition assistance, Covington Catholic would like to establish two additional endowment funds. • An Emergency Assistance Fund will allow the school to provide tuition assistance to student families that suffer the loss of a parent or incur some other tragedy during the school year after the tuition assistance budget has been distributed. • A Teacher Endowment Fund will create endowed chairs, continuing education scholarships, and additional retirement funding. Donations of any size are welcome to any of the endowment funds. In addition, a named endowed scholarship fund or chair can be established for a minimum contribution of $10,000. This component is the non- ‘bricks and mortar’ part of our campaign. There is no limit to what is needed to establish these funds for the greater good of the CCH community. Long-term growth of these funds can be especially effective thru planned giving vehicles.

Gym Entrance Covington Catholic High School Capital Campaign
Gymnasium Renovations and New Auxiliary Gymnasium – Next Phase The final items on our wish list to complete our master campus plans are to build a multipurpose gymnasium and to renovate our existing gym. This new facility would be used for gym classes, intramural sports such as basketball and volleyball, as well as indoor practice space for all sports teams, bingo, and alumni functions. This building would adjoin the existing basketball gymnasium and would support hosting various tournaments including the alumni tournament. The existing gym also requires upgrades to the sound system, air conditioning, stand modifications and a new entrance. Lack of gym space was identified as a major deficiency by our architect’s campus needs assessment. These improvements will only occur if we surpass our goal to fund the Athletic Stadium and the two building additions.
*Renderings are for illustrative purposes only. The actual facilities constructed will depend upon the amount of funding secured.
A New Tomorrow for Our Colonels A BLUEprint for Success
All you Colonels Rally ‘ Round ... As you can see, our campus master plan is ambitious, but necessary. Much thought and evaluation has been taken into consideration as to what facilities will not only keep Covington Catholic competitive with other area high schools, but more importantly, will provide for the educational and physical needs of our student body. Covington Catholic depends on alumni, parents, and friends for your financial support to make our dreams a reality. Now the largest Catholic high school in Northern Kentucky, we must remain competitive with public school facilities and curricula that receive state funding. Our faculty and administration are doing their jobs with excellence and turning out the brightest and most qualified students in the area. Our students are demonstrating their appreciation of being a Colonel with record scores, outstanding community service, and regional and state championships. CovCath has always been a great school. Let’s take it to the next level and create a campus that will be second to none in the Northern Kentucky area! Won’t you please show your voice of approval of all the great things going on at Covington Catholic by giving thoughtful consideration to what level of support you can provide to this campaign?

‘ FAQs Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who planned and authorized the “Bright Minds, Bright Future” Capital Campaign? A: Since 2010, the School Board and the Strategic
Planning Committee have met monthly to evaluate the needs of the students, current and future, and to evaluate the best uses of facilities to accomplish this. In the fall of 2013, Most Reverend Roger J. Foys approved Covington Catholic’s request for this capital campaign, only the second capital campaign since the late 1970’s.
Q: What is the anticipated schedule to begin the various projects? A: The total plan has been broken down into specific
projects each with an allocated cost to complete. Diocesan policy requires that Covington Catholic must have at least 50% of the cost of a project in cash on hand and the remaining amount committed in pledges before construction can begin. Donations may be designated toward specific projects; however, unrestricted donations allow the school to complete the most pressing projects in a more timely manner.
Q: What is the priority for projects being completed? A: Because funding was secured and the need for a
home facility was an important priority, the tennis courts were constructed first. The turf part of the Athletic Stadium project was completed in the summer of 2015 because the old turf was unusable for the 2015-16 school year and the NFL grant stipulated it had to be used within the year. Once funding is available, the athletic stadium and lights project will be completed. The academic wing and south campus addition will follow. The auxiliary gym will only be constructed if we can obtain the necessary funding after the other projects are completed.
Q: Who is being asked to support the Capital Campaign? A: All members of the extended Covington Catholic
family, which is comprised of alumni, parents of alumni, parents of students, grandparents, friends, faculty, and school board members are being asked to participate in the campaign. The silent phase of the campaign started in 2014 with solicitations of previous donors to the past campaign as well as solicitations to area foundations and corporate sponsors. We are seeking $2 million from new donors to complete these projects.
Q: How will the Annual Appeal Drive be affected by this campaign? A: During this campaign, annual giving must continue
even as new capital funds are sought. Tuition and fees cover only a portion of the cost of a Covington Catholic education. As a private school, we rely on the annual generosity of our supporters to help make up the difference needed to provide a quality Catholic education for each student. Annual gifts will be solicited at the same time as pledges for the capital campaign.
Q: How much should I pledge to the Capital Campaign? A: Only you can decide how much to give. By careful
consideration of your ability to give and your belief in the mission of Covington Catholic High School, we are confident that you will support our project. A chart is provided in this publication to illustrate how your level of giving can be budgeted over quarterly or monthly payments.
Q: How long do I have to fulfill my pledge? A: We ask that pledge payments be fulfilled within
three to five years. We can assist you with annual, quarterly or monthly reminders. Keep in mind that the sooner that funds are available, the sooner we can begin.
Q: May I make a contribution other than cash? A: Yes. Gifts of appreciated stocks and bonds are
one way to make a significant contribution at a reduced cost to you. Federal tax laws allow a charitable deduction for the full market value of the securities on the date of your gift. Contact the Advancement Director for assistance in advance in making transfers. Gifts of real estate, life insurance and charitable trusts will help to secure the future needs of Covington Catholic. A planned giving expert will be made available upon request to help you understand the benefits of different methods of giving. Hundreds of companies have matching gift programs which will complement your personal campaign gift.
Q: Can I make an In-Kind donation of A:
goods or services?
We realize that the CCH community includes contractors or suppliers that may prefer to make a donation of goods or services needed by the various projects. Diocesan policy requires all contracts to be competitively bid by three companies, no exceptions. If you are interested in bidding on components of the projects and including discounts or free goods, you are asked to contact principal Bob Rowe.
Q: I am not interested in supporting A:
athletics. Why should I contribute to this campaign?
While a significant portion of this campaign is to update or build new athletic facilities, these are needs necessary to complete our mission of educating the whole student with physical and social opportunities. Community engagement is also strengthened by the social aspect of fan support. However, a major addition of classroom space as well as an expansion to our cafeteria will provide needed facilities for our growing enrollment. The new wing will have state-of-the-art classrooms and a 180 person presentation room which will provide space for our music and drama programs. Growth of our endowment for tuition assistance and the creation of an Emergency Assistance and a Teacher Endowment are part of this campaign as well. It is important to note that the only previous capital campaign for the school was 100% dedicated to construction of the new academic center. Most of the athletic facilities on campus are original to the old school building and demand expensive ongoing repairs.
