Covenant Annual Report 2023-24

Page 1

Dear Reader,

As you know, Covenant is all about transformation through minds enlightened, hearts inflamed, and lives transformed. It is a beautiful work of the Spirit that by grace we imperfect servants are called into as partners.

Transformation is most evident in a Covenant student’s life not by academic, artistic, or athletic achievements, but by a joyful, permeating relationship with Jesus and an openness to the transformative work of the Spirit. It is not so much about knowing exactly what to do for the rest of one ’ s life, but about being “able to test and approve what God’s good, pleasing and perfect will” is.

This is a matter of the mind and the heart It is out of the heart, the wellspring of life, that the mouth speaks, and that wellspring is fed or starved by what we invite into it through our mind. Through a whole-person transformation of heart and mind, worry and anxiety, those vicious thieves of joy, wither at ”the peace of God, which transcends all understanding [and] guard[s] [our] hearts and [our] minds in Christ Jesus ”

As always, thank you for your commitment to the Lord, to the Word, to your family, and the transformative work happening at Covenant Christian High School.

For the Kingdom,

Mr. Jackson is this year’s winner of the Teacher Heart of Covenant Award.

TeacherHeartofCovenant2024

Mr. Jerrah Jackson is this year ’ s recipient of the Teacher Heart of Covenant Award. His exemplary faith and dedication to fostering a nurturing and challenging classroom environment inspire his students to pursue excellence in all areas of life Mr Jackson is known for his attentive listening, empathy, and his unique ability to empower students, encouraging them to approach life with both confidence and grace.

In his classroom, Mr Jackson masterfully stimulates critical thinking while maintaining a positive learning atmosphere. He skillfully balances serious discussions with a touch of levity, making complex topics accessible and engaging. This approach not only deepens understanding but also bridges classroom conversations to life lessons, greatly impacting his students beyond academic achievements

Students see Mr. Jackson as a pillar of support and guidance. His commitment to their learning is profound, yet it is his belief in the intrinsic value of each individual that truly defines his teaching

He consistently communicates that all people matter, a message that resonates deeply within his classroom walls and beyond. His students hold him in high regard, cherishing the wisdom he imparts and the genuine care he exhibits.

One colleague remarked, “Mr. Jackson invites students into a deeper sense of wonder through disciplined scholarship and genuine discipleship.” In his presence, students find the strength and inspiration to excel His influence helps them discover their voice, their calling, and the love of Christ through daily interactions that transcend the typical teacher-student dynamic.

We congratulate Mr Jackson on this well-deserved honor! His impact is a testament to the power of teaching with heart, commitment, and a deep love for both the subject and the students entrusted to his care.

ATHLETICS

At Covenant Christian High School, we define athletic success not just through individual or team achievements though we are proud to celebrate many such accolades but by our ability to cultivate Christian student athletes who become leaders both at our school and in the wider community This year, we are particularly proud that 10 of our athletes, representing 14% of the graduating class, are continuing their sports careers at the collegiate level, promising to make significant impacts on their college teams.

Additionally, our athletes' commitment to integrity and fair play has been consistently recognized, with numerous students receiving accolades from the Indy Star for their exemplary sportsmanship throughout the year.

These acknowledgments underscore the depth of character and dedication our students bring to their disciplines, truly embodying the spirit of Covenant athletics We celebrate not only their competitive successes but also their development into individuals who uphold and champion our core values.

ALUMNI

This past school year, our dedicated team traveled over 3,000 miles to visit 14 campuses, engaging with 45 alumni who have taken diverse academic paths. These visits have provided rich, insightful feedback that showcases the lasting impact of a Covenant education.

Alumni Engagement Highlights

Our alumni continue to thrive in their respective fields and campuses, often citing their preparedness to handle college's academic and cultural challenges as a direct benefit of their Covenant experience. The feedback from these visits has been overwhelmingly positive, with many alumni expressing that they feel well-equipped to manage their coursework and engage meaningfully in campus life During our visits, alumni shared how their involvement in student organizations and active participation in campus faith communities have been particularly rewarding. These engagements not only reflect their ongoing commitment to personal and spiritual growth but also highlight the strong foundation built during their time at Covenant.

New Goals for Alumni Visits 2024-2025

Based on the feedback received, we have set ambitious goals for the coming year:

Increase Campus Visits: We aim to expand our reach by increasing the number of campuses visited, particularly focusing on those with higher enrollments from our 2024 graduates

Enhance Participation: We plan to include more faculty and staff in these visits to foster deeper connections and insights.

Implement Alumni Feedback: Key suggestions from alumni will help us refine and enhance the visit program, ensuring it continues to meet the needs and expectations of both current students and graduates.

These initiatives are designed to strengthen our alumni network and enhance the support system available to our current students, ensuring they are as prepared, connected, and confident as the alumni before them.

ARTS

This school year, Covenant Theatre delighted audiences with two outstanding productions. "Cheaper by the Dozen" brought to life the humorous and heartwarming challenges of a large family, while "The Clockmaker’s Daughter" captivated with its mystical tale set in a fictional Irish town. Both plays showcased our students' diverse talents in acting and stagecraft, highlighting Covenant's commitment to excellence in the arts and education.

Join us next season for more inspiring performances that promise to entertain and enjoy our community

COMMUNITY

This year at Covenant Christian High School, our community has been enriched by several key events that brought us together and highlighted our commitment to experiential learning and engagement

David Neville at Covenant, Spiritual Emphasis Day 2024

We were honored to host David Neville, an Olympic gold and bronze medalist, who visited our school to share his inspiring journey for Spiritual Emphasis Day. His message about dedication, love, and faith left a profound impact on our students and staff, reinforcing the values we cherish as a community This special event provided our students with a unique opportunity to learn from a world-class athlete about overcoming challenges and loving people well.

The Opening of the Cove Coffee Shop

A significant highlight of the year was the opening of the Cove Coffee Shop, a student and teacher-led initiative that has quickly become a favorite spot on campus. As part of our DECA program, this venture not only serves delicious coffee but also offers practical business and marketing experience to our students The Cove is a perfect example of how academic concepts can be applied in real-world settings, providing handson learning opportunities that prepare our students for future success.

Gone Servin’ 2024

Another cornerstone of our community engagement was the annual Gone Servin’ event, where students, staff, and families dedicated a day to serving local nonprofits and community organizations. This initiative not only helped strengthen community bonds but also allowed participants to put their faith into action, making tangible impacts in the lives of others. Partners this year included Love Where You Are, ICS, and Camptown

These events are just a part of how we build a strong, interconnected community at Covenant, dedicated to fostering an environment where learning and personal growth can flourish
