Making a Power of Attorney Sometimes people wish to plan ahead and set out in advance what they would like to happen should they become unable to make decisions for themselves in the future. A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is an important legal document that enables a person who has capacity and is over 18 (Donor) to choose another person or people (Attorney(s)) to make decisions on their behalf. There are 2 different types of LPAs: •
•
A property and affairs LPA is for decisions about finances, such as selling the Donor's house or managing their bank account; and A personal welfare LPA is for decisions about both health and personal welfare, such as where to live, day-to-day care or having medical treatment.
An Attorney is appointed to make decisions as if they were the Donor themselves. An Attorney must act in the Donor's best interests and have regard to the Code of Practice. An LPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) before it can be used. An unregistered LPA will not give the Attorney any legal powers to make a decision for the Donor. The Donor can register the LPA while they have capacity, or the Attorney can apply to register the LPA at any time. Wilsons can give you advice and prepare the necessary documents from £399 plus VAT. There is also a registration fee payable to the Government of £130 (however if in receipt of a guaranteed pension credit, this will be exempt). Contact Tina O'Brien on 0113 236 2333

A Letter from the Editor
Covered T: 01132 745639 M: 07999 138390 Covered Magazine
This month we take a glimpse at Otley Folk Festival. Otley is slightly out of our distribution area (for now – we’re launching there soon!) but the festival is a nationally recognised event, so it was well worth our team taking a trip there. If you get the chance next year then go along! ‘In Bloom’ volunteers and the businesses that support the initiative have recently been rewarded with a trip to the John Charles centre for a presentation. From a simple hanging basket outside a shop to the development of flowerbeds on otherwise plain grass verges, the ‘In Bloomers’ do a great job of helping our community look that little bit better every year. Volunteers and businesses are always welcome to join.

We also report on some of the Hope in Horsforth events that have taken place recently. If you made it to the Farmer’s Market at The Grove, Town Street you’ll be pleased to know that this will now become a monthly event but will move just up the road to St Margaret’s School car park. It’s well worth a look and supports local, independent producers.

If you, your business or any organisation you’re involved with has any special plans for the festive season (yes, it’s nearly here!) then please let me know about them. We’ll attend, support and report as many events as possible and we may be able to offer some free exposure. The advertising and editorial deadline for the next edition is 9/11/12 so please get in touch soon.

Hope in the Park On the afternoon of Saturday 22 September Hope in Horsforth staged an activities event in Hall Park. Some attractions, though not all, had a charitable and/ or religious content. Rodeo rides on mechanical bulls, wrestling in sumo outfits, skateboarding and stunt cycling, giant Jenga, Twister, skittles, jackstraws, face painting, bouncy castle, Gospel rock music, Tree of Hope, painting religious murals. That kind of thing. But no faiths other than Christian were represented, and then only the Anglican side of things. Good or bad? Anyway, most of the participants were grateful for the event and remained entirely indifferent to its purpose and composition.
Harder than it looks – though bucking at one of the lowest settings, the pair of rodeo bulls were more than a handful for most of their victims.
Younger visitors had the opportunity to colour and design sections of a large mural in the making.
Maybe fifty youngsters were in the skateboard park on the day. Although this stunt cyclist might be criticised for being without elbow or knee pads, he was one of the few wearing as much as a cycling helmet. So much for the notices that full protective gear was to be worn at all times.

New Antiques Fair for Horsforth Strange that Horsforth hasn’t had any antiques fairs in the past twenty years, whereas Cookridge, Guiseley, Headingley, Lawnswood, Otley, Pool and Pudsey all have. Although all folded as part of the great migration to the internet, new fairs have recently been introduced in Otley (Courthouse), Pool (Village Hall) and Pudsey (Civic Hall). And now, at last, it’s Horsforth’s turn. Andy and Jo Riley of Rodley, under the guise of their recently formed Warley Fairs, have spent six months researching – and confirming – the need for the return of events to the area. They started the ball rolling with a new event at Pudsey Civic Hall on Saturday 29 September and will be holding a similar event at St Margaret’s Church Hall on Saturday 3 November. The use of Saturdays is quite a departure from the usual one-day format on Sundays – ideally attracting trade and public otherwise engaged.
Charities Benefit From NPT Open Day Insp Richard Coldwell of Aireborough & Wharfedale NPT hands over a cheque to be split betwee Horsforth Live at Home Scheme, AVSED, Otley Action for Older People and OPAL, the donation from NPT was part of the money raised at their recent Open Day in September. A big thank you goes out from the NPT to all the local businesses that provided charity raffle prizes and to all that visited and dug deep into their pockets.
As well as antiques, Warley Fairs’ first event at Pudsey Civic Hall in September included displays of a wide range of decorative and collectable items. There is no reason why Warley Fairs shouldn’t be able to put Horsforth well and truly on the antiques map.

Move Over Henry Moore! Remember Remember In last month’s issue we reported Aireborough Extended Services’ Fun Olympics at Yeadon Westfield Infant School. Here, Horsforth Extended Services was offering a more sedentary morning at Horsforth Children’s Centre; “Modelling in Clay”. A dozen or more youngsters were given the opportunity of applying textures and effects with a range of natural and man-made objects such as knives (blunt of course), rolling pins, combs, sea shells, pebbles, leaves and twigs.
The PTA at St John the Baptist C of E Primary School will be holding their community bonfire and fireworks display at the rear of St John Church on the evening of Saturday 10 November. This photograph is of last year’s festivities.
Covered magazine got to hear of LCC’s wide range of activities only towards the end of the school summer holidays, and only then by a chance visit to one of LCC’s one-stop centres. It is indeed sad that that such a rich variety of venues and activities appears to have been in part wasted due to a lack of publicity. Let’s just hope that LCC tries a little harder next summer.

Leeds in Bloom Successes for Horsforth and Pudsey North West Leeds fared better than ever in this year’s Leeds in Bloom Awards at John Charles Centre in September. As usual, Horsforth stole the show. But this year also saw strong recognition of the efforts made in Calverley, Farsley and Pudsey. Of all the awards, the one that deserves special mention is one made to Gerry Ingham of Horsforth in Bloom. Not the one he collected on behalf of his church, nor the one he collected for Horsforth itself. It was a special award made personally to him in recognition of his tireless service to Leeds in Bloom in general - and Horsforth in Bloom in particular.

Finance Matters Editor Chris Barnham investigates a financial issue that might affect residents of this area. How we should pay for care in our old age is a major national issue, but also for many people a major personal one. The cost is such that a lifetime’s worth of saving can be wiped out in just a few years, a distressing possibility for anyone who was hoping to leave a legacy for their families. Worse still is the fear that you can only live in the care home of your choice for a certain amount of time before the money runs out.
A WEALTH OF EXPERTISE ON YOUR DOORSTEP
Sometimes the main concern isn’t for the individual but for their children. They don’t know if in a few years they will be inheriting, or contributing. By purchasing an impaired life annuity this uncertainty can be removed. For a fixed lump sum a sufficient income to pay for the care until death can be secured. The person in care loses the stress, and their family know what the inheritance will be and can plan around it. It usually doesn’t make sense to do this until required, so the key until then is to build up funds to leave you as many options as possible. If your income is enough for your lifestyle when you are independent it’s worth looking at ways to ensure that your income is still sufficient to see you comfortably into the later stages of your life, and if possible to leave some as well to help the next generation. It is better to plan for the possibility of needing care than to find yourself short at the time.

Harvesting Hope The start of October saw a whole community come together at Harvesting Hope in Horsforth. The event, held at The Grove Methodist Church, ended 2 weeks of events organised by Horsforth Churches Together, as part of their Hope in Horsforth initiative, was universally deemed a success. Stuart Andrew MP, who was perusing a display of children's drawings at the time, spoke of the “fantastic initiative” that has brought churches, schools and local people together for the series of events: “I have congratulated the organisers and supported them. This is big for Horsforth, just look at the amount of stalls at the farmer's market. I believe that [farmer's market] is set to move to St Margaret's School car park which will also bring business to the upper end of Horsforth.” The farmer's market, making its first appearance in Horsforth before it becomes a permanent fixture on the first Saturday of each month, had many stalls ranging from vegetables to cakes and pies to jam. It was very well received and was busy throughout the day.

The day ended with a story in the cafe that truly epitomised hope - the story of Gabrysia Filarowski and her family. Gabrysia was born with congenital heart disease and by the end of October 2008 was in desperate need of a heart transplant. Andrew, Gabrysia's father, stood up to tell the story of his family and how, with the help of their community, religion and hope, they had overcome so much adversity. Gabrysia had her transplant in July 2010 and has recently started school. One thing that has rung true over the past fortnight is that there truly is 'Hope in Horsforth'.

Leeds Feline Friends Under the Hammer at St Margaret’s Leeds Feline Friends held a charity auction comprising 200 lots of donated domestic, children’s, novelty and decorative items at St Margaret’s Church Hall on the morning of Saturday 29 September. LFF was formed in March 2010 by volunteers from a number of other cat related charities, several of which had diminished in numbers or closed altogether. A registered charity, their aims include caring for and supporting vulnerable cats – often with an aim to place them in a foster or permanent new home. Their next event at St Margaret’s is a Christmas Fair on Saturday 24 November from 10am to 1pm. Enquiries about donations, stall availability and other offers of help and support to 0113 2160593 (messages only).
David Thornton got Forum 2000 underway for the autumn with “Street Names of Leeds”
Forum 2000 from Autumn 2012 Forum 2000 was a Workers’ Educational Association local initiative in the 1980s. Now meeting on Wednesdays at 10am at Grove Centre, Horsforth, the two-hour lectures and discussions each focus topics as wide-ranging as local history, practicalities (such as funding long-term care) and a deeper look into national and international topics of interest such as the RBS crisis and globalisation. The autumn season got underway on 19 September when children’s author and otherwise published historian David Thornton gave an insight into the origins and derivations of street names in what we now know as the Metropolitan District of Leeds, starting at the very centre with Kirkgate (way to the church). Future sessions include Leeds Cholera Epidemics (14 November, John Brooke) and Discover Your Family History (5 December, Jacqueline Depelle). £1 per session. 0113 2583521

Affordable Funerals for a Personal and Fitting Goodbye When someone dies everything changes. We feel lost. We know there must be a funeral but perhaps aren’t sure what to do. We need someone to help guide us through. At Affordable Funerals we work with you at one of life’s most difficult and distressing times. I have lost many family members and friends and know only too well how difficult it can be. The cost of a funeral can be expensive. At Affordable Funerals we help families create a funeral at a cost to suit their budget. I trained with Jane Morrell and Simon Smith of Greenfuse Funeral Directors in Devon and authors of We Need to Talk About the Funeral – see greenfuse. co.uk. During my time there I explored not only the traditional aspects of the funeral business, but also other ideas that do not strictly adhere to tradition. I am also trained as a Bereavement Counsellor and am a member of Dying Matters and The Natural Death Society. Funerals today
right or wrong way to conduct a funeral, only your own; that it should feel right to all who remember the person who has died and be respectful, dignified and personal. After all, a lifetime of loving someone makes you want to remember them as you did in life - and say goodbye in the language you shared. During my work as a Funeral Celebrant and Director it is apparent that people are now expecting to be more involved in how the funeral should be conducted and, with guidance, reflect the person they are there for on the day. At Affordable Funerals we create a homely feel to allow families to feel comfortable when they call in - either for advice or to make arrangements and visit their loved ones.
Katrina Leech
The way we hold funerals is changing. Here at Affordable Funerals we understand that there is no Affordable Funerals

First Golf Day for

The inaugural Bar 166 Corporate Golf Day on 13 September at Horsforth Golf Club was the brainchild of General Manager John Crowe. Conceived in the summer, it attracted nine teams of customers, suppliers and other business associates. It included all the usual prizes – nearest the hole, longest drive and best individual and team efforts. Then back to Bar 166 for a carvery buffet, presentation and analysis of the day’s best efforts. And some of the worst. John Crowe; “A good time was had by all. I’d like to thank participants, sponsors and HGC for helping make it happen. We are looking forward to staging a repeat event next year and hoping to attract maybe fifteen teams for that one.” Details of the next event will of course be announced in a future issue of Covered

Local History in Horsforth While researching the history of Horsforth’s Grove Methodist Church earlier this year, past parishioner and now Otley resident John Burland found that no definitive history had ever been written. So, in conjunction with his son Matthew, a trainee preacher, and building on two booklets published forty and twenty years ago, John set about a comprehensive history not only about the present church itself (opened 1868) but also about the history of Methodism in Horsforth (first in 1759). Given the strong ties with the community, the church being the backdrop for much of the parishioners’ sporting and social activity, John Burland’s book is as much about social history as religious. Lists of names of church and social officers from as early as the 1860s and photographs from the 1920s onward are bound to bring back memories to even the eldest residents. Copies are available for (a fundraising) £5 from John Burland on 01943 466884.

Otley Folk Festival 2012 Otley Folk Festival is an important event in the British folk music and dance calendar. The 21st Festival, from 20-23 September, didn’t disappoint. Mind you, it never should. Strategically placed after the end of the summer season, performers and followers are less likely be juggling priorities. The 2012 event had around sixty musical acts appearing in nine ticketed venues. Plus other scheduled events in a dozen pubs and Morris dancers in the streets. Additional free and impromptu sessions at those venues, and others, meant that our photographer didn’t know which way to turn – apart from the Sunday afternoon. The massed and very visual gathering of Morris dancers at The Cross Pipes was a photographer’s delight.

I was delighted to discover that, due to the success of Hope in Horsforth, the Farmers’ Market will now become a regular feature near Horsforth library. further – even less income coming to shops and leisure outlets through less custom. Pay Day Loans I was concerned to read in the press recently about the increase in pay day loans and pay day loans companies which can charge customers APRs up to an eye-watering 4,214%. Typically debt collectors are sent out after just 60 days. Compared to other countries, the service is regulated very lightly here. If not used properly these pay day loans can lead to individuals having spiralling debt and the more vulnerable in society are particularly at risk if they don’t get good advice.

DON’T TRADE PARKING INCOME FOR AN EMPTY HIGH STREET I haven’t been shy when voicing my dissatisfaction over Leeds City Council’s plans to review evening and Sunday car parking charges across the City Centre. I would like the Council to think carefully before introducing charges on evenings and Sundays. At a time when high street shops are closing down in record numbers, the Council’s strategy should be to stimulate growth and encourage more visitors to the City Centre. It is the wrong time for such a change. It also comes at a time when Park and Ride facilities and public transport are inadequate. The Council cites a reduction in revenue as a reason for increasing the payment days and times. They blame the reduction in revenue on a reduction in users. My view is that by discouraging people by increasing charges on days when leisure activities feature on people’s agendas then we will hit the local economy

Illegal money lending is a different matter and one which the Council takes very seriously. A pilot project started in Birmingham in 2007 to investigate illegal money lending was extended to include Leeds in 2007. Seven Illegal Money Lending teams exist nationally and have, since inception, identified over 2000 illegal money lenders. 200 prosecutions have been secured and 18,000 victims helped. Victims have also been referred to alternative sources of financial support. Illegal money lenders can also be reported on reportaloanshark@stoploansharks.gov.uk An alternative to either of the above are Credit Unions. Three of St Margaret’s under seven teams met two YAA aircrew, paramedics Darren Axe and Darrel Cullen (dark jackets) after a Thursday training session. Organiser and trainer Andy Barraclough is rear row far right.
Horsforth St Margaret’s U/7s Support YAA in 2012/13 Season Paid-for and sponsored kit isn’t always forthcoming for amateur sports clubs, particularly for junior sides – not that many six or seven-year-olds have much say in where to shop or fly, or what car to drive. And the crowds are usually a rotation of the same parents. So, Andy Barraclough, coach of Horsforth St Margaret’s under sevens football team, decided to make best use of the team’s jackets and training kit by adding Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s logo for the forthcoming season; “Last year I was among a team of eight on a charity cycle ride that raised in excess of £24,000 for several charities, including YAA. With one helicopter based at LBA, they are local and I thought this would be a good idea to help raise their profile here and elsewhere. We are planning a fundraising day later in the season”. Horsforth St Margaret’s has six – yes six – U/7s sides playing in the Garforth friendly league. Three train on a Wednesday evening and three on a Thursday. Training is between six and seven at King George’s Playing Fields until the clock changes, thereafter at local all-weather facilities. Home matches are played on Sunday mornings at Clariant Fields, Rodley.
New players are always welcome – head coach Richard Gregory (07966 221393) takes the Wednesday training and Andy Barraclough (07884 341927) the Thursdays.

Covered Guide To... Digital Photography - Small Items
Covered photographer Ivor Hughes gives some tips for beginners on how to achieve good digital images of small items. It’s all in the lens Megapixels are for muppets, particularly with images taken to put on websites. Websites re-size images to a fraction of the original. Never mind the megapixels – select a camera with a lens at least the size of a 1p piece. Older, slower cameras can still have excellent optics and pixel counts far in excess of web or small print requirements. The remarkable Olympus 5050 can easily be picked up for under £100 secondhand. Other names such as Canon, Pentax and Nikon all made, and still make, comparable compact digital cameras. Why compact? Compact cameras are much more versatile than more expensive SLRs (with interchangeable lenses). Close-up pictures of stamps, coins and jewellery are so much easier. Lighting Built-in flashguns are puny. The camera’s metering is unreliable for close-up work. Flash spreads unevenly and there is a risk of shadows and reflections. Using shaded or cloudy daylight is easiest and best. Perhaps on a windowsill. A properly directed shaving mirror will reduce shadows if the sun won’t go in.
background), rotating (to make things straight and/ or level) and the sliding scales for lightness/darkness and contrast. The bad news You have to read the camera instructions, if only as far as the “quick start” guide. You need to know how to use the camera on manual settings and how to take close-ups from as close as an inch. The good news For as little as £100, and within a couple of days, you can be producing images every bit as good as the ones shown here. Finally, few people realise the range of items that can be “photographed” on a scanner. Not only stamps, but also things like coins, medals and badges. Protect the scanner surface with stretched cling film.
Other inexpensive accessories Tabletop tripods help you frame the photo that much better. They remove camera shake. Without flash. Printer paper makes a good background. Off-white or tinted paper helps if the subject is coming out too dark. Cloth reduces shadows. The most important photo editing functions on the computer are autocolour correction (easy, two clicks of the mouse), cropping (losing irrelevant
Who needs an expensive professional camera with expensive close-up adaptors when an inexpensive pocket compact can produce pictures as good as these?

Leeds Carnegie will be hoping to get their hands on the military backed Yorkshire Regiment Trophy
Leeds Carnegie Coach backs new Yorkshire Regiment Trophy Three of the Yorkshire region’s top clubs have come together to create a new competition which will determine which is the strongest rugby union side in the County. The new competition has been backed by the regions’ military and it is hoped that through their sponsorship the game can grow within Yorkshire. The competition will take the format of a three team league which runs within the RFU Championship. The three teams taking part, namely Leeds Carnegie, Rotherham Titans and Doncaster Knights, will play each other home and away, each win earning four points with extra try-scoring bonuses available. Leeds Carnegie Head Coach Diccon Edwards spoke exclusively to Covered Magazine stating that he thought the new initiative was “A real positive for the game in Yorkshire”. Speaking of the benefits in terms of team morale, he added “It’s great to have a genuine trophy for the best team in the county to
get at the end of the season, and we want to be the number one club in the county.” Carnegie has also announced that three of their home games this season will be taken to different venues around the region. Edwards has stated that this is crucial for the development of the club’s brand if it is to grow in the future, something with which he hopes the new trophy will assist. “Going on the road is about taking experiences away from Headingley and creating a big occasion for those who have not necessarily experienced a game of rugby union before. We want a big occasion and hope that we can bring those fans back to Headingley in the future.”

Guiseley march forward in Cup Guiseley AFC have successfully reached the final preliminary round of the F.A Cup, beating fellow Blue Square North side Colwyn Bay in a replay, earning the club a cool £7,500 for reaching the 4th Preliminary Round. The Lions have had a major squad re-shuffle in the last month and so reaching the final preliminary round of the F.A Cup and continuing to battle at the top end of the Blue Square North is testament to boss Steve Kittrick and his players. Captain Simon Ainge has been snapped up by Blue Square Premier side Luton Town, on an initial one month loan with the view to signing permanently. Summer addition and fellow England C player Stephen Brogan has also stepped up a division, signing for Forest Green Rovers. Forward Danny Forrest, who will forever be remembered in Guiseley folklore for his last minute goal from the halfway line, has also left the club and signed for local rivals Harrogate Town. Striker Chris Mason has also left, joining Kendall Town on loan. Kittrick has wasted no time to bringing players in however, striker Kevin Holsgrove joining the team from Colwyn Bay. Guiseley remain in contention for promotion to the top level of non-league football, sitting just one point off the leaders (and newcomers) Brackley Town. Guiseley have twice come close to gaining promotion in the last two seasons and boss Kittrick will be desperate to make sure that third time’s the charm.
Former Bradford City captain Mark Bower has donned the armband at Guiseley following the exit of Simon Ainge to Luton

Record Runners in Horsforth 10k The 28th Horsforth 10k was again a huge success with more than 680 entries, a record number for organisers Horsforth Harriers. 595 completed the 2012 race - 158 more than last year. This year’s race was won by Shaun Dimelow of Barnsley AC in a time of 33 minutes and 59 seconds. He was followed in by Panos Aristotelous who finished in 34:23. David Thompson, a Barnsley AC compatriot came third 33 seconds behind. Wetherby Runners were dominant in the women’s section. Pauline Munro was first in 38 minutes and 56 seconds. Behind Pauline was club mate Lisa Mawer, trailing by 15 seconds. Donna Edmondson-Booker of Idle AC was the third to finish in 39:43. Race Director Bob Foulkes; “It was a challenge for us all to put on a race as big as this. The weather was kind to us again, overcast but a perfect temperature. It was a joy to see nearly 600 runners thunder down Woodlands Drive at the start." Deaf Ex-Mainstreamers’ Group (DEX) was the chosen charity. They support deaf children in mainstream education and were nominated by Horsforth Harrier, Serena Blackburn. Serena has been profoundly deaf since birth and was a torchbearer in the Paralympic Torch Relay. Serena ran the 10k alongside Paralympian blind runner Louise Simpson of Southend AC – completing the course in 1:07:33. Planning has already started for next summer’s Apperley Bridge Canter (ABC) – with hopes that it will prove just as popular as the Horsforth 10K.

Yorkshire CCC in T20 Action Can the season get any better for Yorkshire? Jason Gillespie’s side have gained promotion back to the Championship, reached the Twenty20 County Final and have now qualified for the T20 Champions League! Yorkshire CCC were granted a place in the qualifying stages of the Champions League after reaching the T20 final. Yorkshire faced two matches, needing to win both to reach the group stages of the illustrious tournament. Speaking to Covered Magazine before the team left for South Africa, Captain Andrew Gale said; “We go as underdogs. There is no expectation on us in South Africa. It’s unknown territory for us and even if we lose our qualifying matches then it’s great experience, particularly the younger lads.”
Adel Ladies Hockey Leeds Adel Ladies First XI hockey team got their new season underway as they look to mount a challenge for honours. They started with a home match at Wakefield 2nds and were desperately unlucky in a 2-1 defeat on the opening day of their campaign. The ladies bounced back in their second match however, beating Nelson Pendle Forest Firsts 3-1 on their first away match to get their season up and running. Adel Ladies have two more home games
Rhinos win Grand Final... AGAIN!
Having made it through the preliminaries, Yorkshire face a tough test if they are to make it through the league stage to the semi-finals but will approach each match fearlessly, with nothing to lose and everything to gain. Skipper Andrew Gale told Covered; “It’ll be a great learning experience whatever happens. It will be pleasing to step back and appreciate what we’ve achieved afterwards.” left this month, against Lancaster and Preston, with a trip to Deeside Ramblers sandwiched in between. Adel Ladies Second Team have had a middle of the road start to the new season. They were comprehensively beaten 4-0 by Kingston-Upon-Hull in their first match of the division but have since turned things around by edging 2-1 past local rivals Leeds Second XI and drawing 0-0 in their first home match against Bingley Bees’ First Team. They have yet to travel to York University First XI and Ben Rhydding Seconds. They also host Wakefield’s Third team in their attempts to achieve run of good form in the Yorkshire Women’s Premier Hockey League. and League Shield winners Wigan Warriors before Warrington Wolves bore the brunt of experience at Rhinos reserve home ground in Manchester.
Leeds Rhinos have again won the Super League Grand Final thanks to yet another outstanding performance at Old Trafford as Brian McDermott’s side barrelled over the Warrington side that had beaten them in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
As a result of retaining their crown, the Rhinos will now defend the World Club Challenge trophy, this time hoping to see off Melbourne Storm in a repeat of the 2010 final between the two sides. Melbourne won that final 18-10 at Elland Road and Kevin Sinfield and Co will be gunning for revenge this time around.
The Grand Final win was Rhinos’ second in a row and their fifth in the past six seasons! For Leeds fans it was a perfect case of déjà vu as they finished 5th in the league before unleashing their best performances when it really counted. To the shock of many (outside of Leeds) the Rhinos looked imperious in their victories away at Catalan Dragons
It’s clear that the worst thing to do is to write off the Rhinos. Those that have always seem to be the ones with egg plastered across their faces. As for the next campaign? Well, the written-off Rhino’s won’t stand a chance of retaining the World Club Challenge (cue reverse psychology) surely they won’t be challengers for another hat-trick of Grand Final victories...
