Manufacturing Environmentally Responsible Products
Colormaker proudly manufactures PERMASET® inks –a range of environmentally-friendly screen printing inks which are popular worldwide.
Reducing Their Environmental Impact
Colormaker’s environmental measures include an increasing focus on the development of solvent free, water-based and low-VOC paint technologies and a significant commitment to invest in the research and development of eliminating harmful chemicals from their products. Furthermore, Colormaker produces all their products using 100% renewable energy and a range of recycling practices. This includes the use of LED lighting throughout the warehouse and office complex, the treatment of all waste water, recycling of paper, board and scrap metal and the use of 100% renewable electricity for all their manufacturing.
COLORMAKER
Ceiling White paint has eliminated plastic microbeads from the formulation to make it safer for the environment.
Colormaker’s PERMATONE® textile screen printing inks are Approved by the Soil Association in the UK under the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS) for use in Organic Textile processes. In 2012, PERMATONE® became the first ink from outside the UK to receive this sought after Approval. The entire family of PERMASET® textile printing inks does not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFCs and HCFCs, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile, or lead of any heavy metals.. In fact PERMASET® inks do not contain any toxic chemicals at all, not even white spirits like other water-based inks on the market. PERMATONE® inks have also passed the Oekotex Class 1 standard (with 60% to spare) and are safe to use on underwear, swimwear and even baby clothes.
Eliminating Harmful Chemicals From Manufacturing
The manufacturer’s solid commitment to research & development in eliminating harmful chemicals is testament to this continuing company objective. Colormaker’s eco-responsible low-VOC technologies, utilised in their ACRYLMERIC® construction products and COLORMAKER House Paint ranges, are examples which mirror the increasing demand for environmentally sustainable paints and inks in response to growing public awareness and concern over the world’s ecosystem.
An example of raw material improvements includes the eradication of plastic microbeads from all paints and coatings to ensure these products don’t make their way into rivers and oceans. These microbeads function like miniature sponges, absorbing pesticides and chemical runoff. Clouds of discarded microbeads make up a toxic debris that settles on river and ocean floors. Marine worms ingest these toxins and then, when they’re eaten by fish or other predators, the fish gobble up microbead poisons along with the worms. If people then eat those poisoned fish, they’re at serious risk of falling ill from the toxic residue.
Powered By 100% Renewable Energy
In September this year, Colormaker installed a 356 solar panel array on the roof of their factory and warehouse/office complex. This solar generated electricity is used to power their manufacturing with any additional power required being sourced from 100% renewables. At peak production, their solar array exports surplus clean energy back to the grid. In fact, their solar array generates enough energy to power 20 local homes, and saves the production of over 150 tonnes of greenhouse gases over a year!
Free the Reef Campaign
As part of Colormaker’s commitment to help save the earth and Australia’s natural wonders, since 2016, the company has supported the Free the Reef campaign which raises awareness about threats to the Great Barrier Reef. Colormaker Industries provides their eco-friendly PERMASET® inks to the Free the Reef team to print t-shirts on a live screen printing tour around Australia.
Colormaker Industries Celebrates 60 Years
Colormaker Industries’ Managing Director, David Stuart has been a strong proponent of environmental initiatives and an inspiration behind the development of many of the company’s premium product ranges, including LUXAPOOL®, Australia’s leading trusted swimming pool paint, and PERMASET® eco-friendly screen printing inks. LUXAPOOL pool paint is used to paint many of our beautiful Northern Beaches ocean pools including South Curl Curl, Dee Why, Queencliff and Fairlight ocean pools. Colormaker celebrated 60 years last year. “Sustainability is something I care deeply about,” advised Stuart. “We’re delighted that from now on a little bit of Australian sunshine is going into every container of ink, paint and coatings we manufacture here at Colormaker Industries in Brookvale.” he said.
