Amy

I used to always use the plastic bags from the shopping centre, but I realised I can recycle them. I also line my bins with the newspaper. Even for kids, I’m thinking now that I’m a mum I’m setting an example. It’s these little things that kids learn to care about, other than themselves.

We’ve just put in two compost bins at home and even a dog compost for our dog poos! We also grow our own veggies, next we’re getting chooks.

& Susan

We’ve grown up believing to look after the earth and the environment. So we look after the garden at our retirement village and reduce single use plastic as Mother Nature would have wanted.

Greg from Westfield

We have a coffee cup recycling system here at Westfield which is a fantastic idea. We’ve got four of them that move throughout the centre, so make sure to use this for your coffee cups and don’t just chuck them in the bin!

Nathan

I work for Sydney Water so we’re trying to educate people on ways to save water, and utilising waste water and rainwater for better things like for farms in drought. At home we’re always trying to make sure taps are off and there are no leaks.

Andy - Four Brothers

We offer Keep Cups at Four Brothers and discounts for those who use them. We try to get people to have two cups, one in the car and one here at the cafe so they can order in advance on apps like Hey You with their keep cups, and that’s been really effective.

Minimising our plastic, especially our single use plastic. Simple things such as glad wrap, zip lock bags, takeaway coffee cups, and looking at using alternatives at home. I take my own bags to the shop, I’m a dude and I’m always walking around with a handbag, but everyone does it now.

Issy, Tim’s Daughter

Issy recently toilet trained herself in a week so she doesn’t use nappies anymore. No more single use nappies!

Santa

We don’t use any power engine at all, it’s totally reindeer powered and the reindeers run on carrots that we grow ourselves in the North Pole. Mrs Claus is also always making me sandwiches when I’m out and about so I don’t waste any food! At Christmas make sure not to leave me too much food, I don’t want to waste it!

Tia

I actually study environmental science at university. I try to reduce my consumption of single-use plastic as much as possible, so a lot of the time I’ll bring food from home. I also try to reuse my takeaway containers, cups and single-use plastic where I can. I partake in regular beach clean ups with Sea Shepherd.

Gordon and Rhonda

We have a worm farm at our home for all our compost and kitchen scraps. They really love eating up the sports section of the paper. Next, we’re hoping to get bees and make all our own honey. •
