Narrabeen's NEW LOCAL #TheOne
Stepping into the eatery, right on the shores of Narrabeen Beach, you’ll first be struck by the café’s friendly ambience. On the wall is a quote about unity - the ethos that drives One Café, the brainchild of owner, Peter Gurtner with a background in building, directing his own company, Unity Australia.
Attention to detail is but one element that comprises the success of One Café as a whole. Focus on quality as a venue is also key; Peter and his team redeveloped the kitchen space to uniquely fit the fusion style of the venue. The kitchen opens up both ways, serving up sushi and Japanese cooking on one side, and modern Australian on the other.

As if the awesome ocean view doesn’t speak for itself, One Café brings the outside in, the Norfolks extending into wooded, open interiors, the hanging fairy lights outside morphing into a soft, bright natural light. Customers also can opt for beachside seating and inhale the soothing salty air, and listen to the waves crashing.
One Café has a conscious community approach. Peter recognises that, to operate in a community, the café must be a part of the community that gives back. One way they do this is through their weekend live music. Supporting local artists, by night the café transforms into a bar, with a mobile bar set to push out from the sushi side of the kitchen come summer. As the months warm up, customers can expect fresh oyster shucking amidst the chilled tunes of local talent, and the general warm ambience of a community coming together.
The team at One Café have partnered with leading Australian coffee roaster, Five Senses, with One Café also selling retail coffee for their customers to enjoy at home. Across both their modern Australian and Japanese menu, there are a few solid favourites. At breakfast time, try their 'Ricotta Hotcakes' or 'Mushroom Bruschetta' for a delectable start to the day. At lunch, favourites include the ‘Chicken Katsu Burger’ from the modern Australian menu, and One Café's signature Fish and Chips are a quintessential addition to a day at the beach.
And it doesn’t stop there. This December, the café will be operating for dinner seven days a week. We highly recommend signature menu items such as the Seafood Linguine served with crabmeat, prawns with a hint of chilli lemon zest oil, vine ripened tomatoes, basil, parmesan. Or, try One Café's signature Japanese Menu items such as the 'Crunchy Tuna Rolls', or try the team’s take on Sashimi Nachos.
Have we sparked your curiosity? If you’ve got no plans for this week’s Sunday sesh, or you’re still umming and ahhing about what to do on New Year’s Eve, this freshly hopping venue has got you covered.
Their New Years Eve White Party is slated to be one of the biggest parties on the beaches, with a step away from the traditional combo of simply drinks and fireworks. No, no, no… innovation has taken this little corner of Narrabeen by storm, with the creative 'sky’s the limit' attitude of the team.
A glow in the dark theme will light up the venue, which will also see Taiko drummers and a DJ sushi bar, with sushi spinning on the decks. The more adventurous of punters can also take the opportunity to try out One Café's take on the Bloody Mary, which uses maple bacon as a key ingredient.
All in all, an awesome venue. COVERED. can’t wait to see what they do next. •
