visitor guide Coventry University campus Open Day event Saturday 9 October 2021

Welcome to Coventry University. Thank you for visiting us today. This guide works in conjunction with the Open Day campus map that you will have received on arrival at the check in marquee. A few general points to start with: § In order to keep you and your family safe, we have retained some of the measures from before 19 July to control the number of visitors who are in each space at a time.

On your map, you’ll find all the Coventry University teaching, research, communal and accommodation buildings. From page 9 of this guide, there is a list of the buildings you can access today and the course sessions that are being held in them. In addition to these buildings, the Lanchester Library and the Sports and Recreation Centre will be open today. Most of the other Open Day activity is centred in-and-around TheHub students’ building and Starley Gardens. So if in doubt, head there and you’ll find lots of friendly people happy to help you.

§ Please help us by following signage and directions from our staff and student ambassadors who are here to help make sure you enjoy your day. § Certain areas of the campus will be busier than others. For example, TheHub student building and the Health and Life Sciences buildings are likely to see delays on entrances.

We hope you enjoy your day with us. Student Recruitment Team, Coventry University

§ If there are queues, consider visiting a different part of the campus and return when it might be quieter.

Arriving Whether you’re travelling by car or train, our student ambassadors will be on hand when you arrive.

By train Look out for our student ambassadors on the concourse at Coventry Train Station. They will direct you to the free shuttle bus we have operating between the station and the university. Alternatively, if you don’t wish to use the shuttle bus, they will advise on the best walking route to take to the university.

By car If you are coming by car, follow the AA signs you will pick up as you near Coventry city centre – they will guide you to one of our free Open Day car parks. Once you’ve parked, staff and students will be ready to direct you to check in. Page 3

Car parking You can park free of charge in the car parks listed below. There is no allocation by faculty, so you can park where is best for you. As a rough guide, the Gosford Street multi-storey car park is more convenient for engineering, computing and business related courses, while the Puma Way car is more convenient for health and arts courses. If you would also like to visit CU Coventry while you are here, we recommend using the Puma Way car park. Car park 1 - Gosford Street, CV1 5DL (Coventry University multi-storey) Car park 2 - Puma Way, CV1 2TT (next to the Techno Centre) You can find reserved disabled spaces on the ground floor of car park 1 - Gosford Street.

Where to go to Check in Staff at arrival points and around campus will direct you to the check-in marquee in Starley Gardens. Here you will be provided with a map of the campus and a copy of this visitor guide. A paper wristband will be given to all visitors. This is to allow entrance to buildings. We will also give you a voucher contribution towards refreshments on campus.

...or in the city If you want to venture a little further afield during your visit, the city centre is only a short distance from the university. The best way to access it is from University Square, up St. Michael’s Avenue between the cathedrals and then straight on to Broadgate. You can take your pick of the restaurants around the Broadgate and Cathedral Lanes area, including Zizzi, Turtle Bay, Wagamama, Five Guys and Nando’s. Many of our students spend a lot of their time working and socialising in our modern, friendly city, so it’s well worth exploring if you have the time.

Page 22

Page 22

We are City of Culture 2021 Coventry offers more than you might expect in terms of theatres, cinemas and museums, and, as City of Culture for 2021, the city – and our students – will benefit from the extra investment that the award will bring. If you have time on the day, you could visit one of our local attractions, all of which are close by the campus: Herbert Art Gallery and Museum – right on our doorstop with art, natural history and touring exhibitions. Coventry Transport Museum – nationally acclaimed museum showcasing our rich manufacturing history. Coventry Cathedral – while away some time in the beautiful and historic surroundings. The more energetic of you might like to challenge yourselves to climb the 181 steps of the Cathedral spire. Page 23

Our Social Media Team will be online during the day. Get involved using #iamcoventry and look out for the giant #iamcoventry letters on the lawn near TheHub. Friends from Free Radio will also be live at the Open Day between 10am and 2pm.
