RODEAR: COW DOGS COMPETE

The MARS EQUESTRIAN™ National Finals Rodear returns to the National Reined Cow Horse Association 2022 Snaffle Bit Futurity®. A rodear was first held at the Futurity in 2017. Since then, the cattle dogs, horses and handlers have amazed crowds competing at the event.

This modern cow dog competition showcases a handler and dog working together in a quiet and controlled manner to maneuver cattle. It is a point and timed event, with emphasis on the handler’s stockmanship as he or she instructs a dog in moving the cattle through a series of obstacles. Handlers are horseback for the event.

At the 2021 MARS EQUESTRIAN™ National Finals Rodear, the Open title went Kevin Lippe, of Blue Eye, Missouri, and Australian Kelpie “Chock.” Throughout the calendar year, dogs and their handlers compete across the United States to achieve a position in the top 20 rankings in three divisions: Open, Non Pro and Green Dog. The top 20 in each division arrive in Fort Worth, Texas, in October to compete in the semi-final rounds to determine the top five in each division. These 15 dogs will then compete at the

In 2021, Open handler and rider Kevin Lippe with dog “Chock” and horse “Birdie” took home the MARS Equestrian™ National Finals win.

Snaffle Bit Futurity for more than $50,000 in cash and prizes. The event will be held on Saturday evening, October 8, in the John Justin Arena following the Level 1 Limited Open rein work preliminary for the Futurity.
