Year 9 Football Finals The Year 9 Boys Football Team are back-to-back League Champions! Fresh from their 10-0 win on Tuesday the Year 9 boys were full of confidence and back to a full team ready to face Ryde Academy in this year’s league final. Following a reflective team talk from the last fixture and with the tactics in place it wasn’t long after kick off that Leo K opened the score line. The team have embedded playing the Cowes Way playing some fantastic football involving all players in the team. Each player taking responsibility for their role in the team, showing respect to their opponents and being resilient when not in possession of the ball and winning it back. With the team settling into the game well and with some rotational substitutions made throughout the first half, Cowes dominated play with Leo adding a second goal to his tally, and the team feeling comfortable going into the interval. Ryde Academy came out more organised early into the second half but the Cowes team stuck to the game plan with Leo sealing his hat-trick half way through the second period. Again, rotational subs played their part in the second half with Adam E slotting home the 4th of the match and Ashton C sealing the victory with Cowes’ 5th and final goal. Player of the Match went to Leo K. Special thanks to Will H for running the line. The boys were presented their winner’s medals, with the trophy to be presented in the New Year. A massive congratulations to all of the players that have contributed to the Year 9 team this year playing in the league fixtures. Mr Parker-Meadows, Mr Hughes and Mr Barron are very proud of you. DECEMBER

We had our yearly Jolabokaflod with the support of some of our wonderful sixth form mentors. Jolabokaflod is the Icelandic tradition of gifting a book to someone to read on Christmas Eve. We had such a wonderful morning and lots of the students couldn't wait until Christmas Eve and got stuck in straight away- one or two even spotted at lunch time as well with their nose in a book.

To finish our first full term, some of the Year 7 students created board games based on Odysseus' journey and the Odyssey book they have been reading!

In physical science the year 7 students have been investigating the coloured flames produced by heating chemical compounds and identifying which compounds produce the different colours used in pyrotechnics and distress flares. Year 10 Design and Technology students have been creating Maritime themed Pewter Cast key rings as part of their metal theory work. We are so pleased with their outcomes.

"Fair is foul, and foul is fair." Year 11 got to experience a performance of Macbeth! This is one of their GCSE English texts and we are so grateful to the incredible performers for their time.

Year 8 Netball Tournament

CEC hosted the year 8 netball tournament on Thursday 30th November. Cowes entered one team and battled against six other secondary schools across the island. Our Cowes team won three out of 6 games, drew one and narrowly missed out on two games. The girls showed some excellent game play across the court. They showed some excellent defense and some superb shooting across their games. The girls came joint 3rd overall which is an amazing achievement. Special mention to our sports leaders who stayed and helped run the scoresheet – Grace. C, Scarlett. G and Gigi. C. Also huge thanks to our 6th formers for organising the schools Olivia. C and Eadie. S. Player of the Tournament goes to Cayla R for outstanding shooting. Well done girls, we're so proud of you! Penny H, Erin KP, Emilia. P, Ava BR, Evie J, Liberty A, Cayla R.

Year 7 Boys’ Football Following the successful results in their last 2 fixtures the Year 7 boys football team were geared up to continue their winning form when they faced Ryde Academy on Tuesday. With a last-minute loss of a team mate the boys showed great versatility throughout the match with several players playing slightly out of position in particular Levi P, in an 8v8 game due to Ryde having 1 less player. Playing the Cowes Way the team showed great resilience after conceding the first goal in the early stages of the first half. We were quick to equalise thanks to a goal from Harry O. This was followed up with Cowes’ second goal coming from Jaxson A. Ryde showed determination and tied the score 2-2 by half time. Good use of substitutions throughout the game contributed to Cowes having fresher legs on the pitch and with the team growing in confidence, playing some nice passing football they secured the win with the third goal coming from Jack G. Player of the match went to Ollie H. Very well done to Jack K, Ollie H, Harry O, Levi P, Finley S, Jack G, Riley P, Leo W, Marley B, Cam W and Jaxson A.

Year 8 Boys Football The Year 8 Boys Football team sealed off their league fixtures with a comfortable victory over Carisbrooke College on Tuesday, meaning they have drawn 1 and won 5 matches. Continuing to play the Cowes Way after securing their league final place following their win against Ryde Academy last week, the boys started the game showing their opponents respect and this continued throughout the match. Into the first 5 minutes and we were on the scoresheet with a goal from Logan P. As solid team performance saw Cowes take a 4-0 lead into half time with goals coming from Jack R, Sonny G and Kian S. Carisbrooke came out a different team after the interval and many of the Cowes players showed good versatility playing out of position to allow required substitutions to be made, and this combined with a superb team performance, the final score ended 7-0 to Cowes with second half goals coming from Jack R, Aayan H and Theo B. A huge well done to our amazing footballers! Player of the match went to Jack R. Now onto the final where we face Ryde School where we hope to improve the previous score and take the league title!

Our Cowes boys year 8 football team welcomed Ryde Academy last Thursday knowing a win would all but help them into the Island final. Cowes would go in 2-1 up at half time with goals from Kian S and Logan P, Ryde equalized late into the second half to make it 2-2 and then with no more than 2 minutes to go Kian S scored his second of the game and the winner for Cowes to make it 3-2! Congratulations to Oliver C who was voted Player of The Match!

Cowes Enterprise College Welcomes National Shipbuilding Taskforce Cowes Enterprise College were pleased to welcome members of the National Shipbuilding Task Force to the academy for the group’s penultimate meeting. The group, which represents the entirety of the UK Shipbuilding enterprise, visited a Maritime-focused Year 7 Design and Technology lesson and were impressed by the high level of skill demonstrated by the students, particularly in boatbuilding.

The session revolved around communication and stakeholder engagement and discussed how to best communicate the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce Report and its findings, as well as how to implement a transformative ‘New Narrative’ for the sector. This initiative aims to alter public perceptions and highlight the dynamic and diverse career opportunities available within the maritime sector. Cowes Enterprise College Principal, Rachel Kitley, sits on the government’s National Shipbuilding Skills Task Force, advocating for the maritime industry at a national level.

Her vision and willingness to share her experiences have also led to the establishment of a network of coastal schools developing maritime curricula, further cementing her status as a maritime ambassador. Regarding the visit, Rachel said: “It has been an honour to host the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce at Cowes Enterprise College this week. We are always so proud to showcase the remarkable work of our staff and students around our Maritime Futures curriculum. We are so grateful to the Taskforce for their visit and for the opportunity to highlight the dedication and talent that thrives in our academy.” Cowes Enterprise College is proud to offer an award-winning Maritime curriculum which offers students valuable exposure to maritime concepts throughout their academic journey, and the visit underlines the work that goes on at the academy to embed maritime learning into the curriculum.

So proud of the CEC students and staff who played in the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra concert in November.

CEC students took part in UK Parliamentary Week. Students completed a virtual tour of parliament as part of Cowes Charter and also explored the constituency split to take place on the Isle of Wight. They then completed a quiz to learn more about UK parliament and how they can be politically active. We are so pleased with how well students engaged with this charter activities.

Year 12 language were justifiably pleased (as were teachers!) to see how many new terms they’d taken on board, and were able to note, since starting English Language A Level in September. Well done Year 12, keep up the fantastic work.

Some excellent work from our brilliant Year 12 Psychology students who memorised the multistore model of memory and recreated it using play dough and pipe cleaners!

On the 1st November, Team MFL celebrated Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Day of the Dead honors ancient Aztec traditions merged with All Souls' Day. This holiday, mainly celebrated in Mexico and Spain on 1st and 2nd of November, is like a family reunion, where deceased ancestors are the honored guests. It is a joyous occasion, a time to remember and cherish the memory of those who have passed.

Year 9 Boys vs Vallingby AIK from Sweden

On Friday 4th November Cowes Enterprise College welcomed Swedish touring football club Vallingby AIK to play our Year 9 boys football team. From the first whistle to the last Cowes were relentless in play, scoring in the first 5 minutes with a well worked goal from Luca B. A second goal from Ashton shortly followed and Cowes settled into the game well despite some attractive passing football being played by the visitors. The determination shown by the Cowes team ensured a comfortable cushion of 4 – 0 at half time with a third goal from Ashton C and Adam E. The second half started off with Cowes keeping on the front foot, with the goal of the match coming from Ashton C for his third by way of a fantastic overhead kick. The visitors still fought hard and the game became tighter with several hard-fought challenges, yet Cowes continued with the passion to win every ball meaning the score soon reached 7-0 with goals coming from Luca B and Efe Y. Into the final period of the half and Cowes felt the pressure of a rare attack with one of the opposing strikers just knocking the ball past the keeper winning a penalty, with the slightest contact made in the attempt to save the ball. The game started off evenly with Cowes just on top and after around 15 minutes Ashton picked up the ball and took it round a couple of defenders and scoring to put us 1-0 up. A few minutes later Ashton replicated his first goal to get his second and put us 2-0 up. With the game in the balance, Anthony in goal made an excellent 1 on 1 save to keep his clean sheet intact. Just after Leo produced a brilliant volley to make it 3-0 to Cowes. Just before half time some more good play from the team resulted in our 4th through Luca with a great finish. Just after the restart Ashton made it 5-0 and got his hat-trick. Super sub, Connor then scored what everyone decided as goal of the game with some great build up play before an excellent first touch and finish from Connor. Students Set Sail on a Transformational Voyage with Ocean Youth Trust South Thirteen Cowes Enterprise College students have recently embarked on an inspiring and transformative voyage with Ocean Youth Trust South, an extraordinary adventure that endeavours to leave a lasting impact on their lives. The week-long voyage aboard the Ocean Youth Trust South vessel, Prolific, not only introduced them to the wonders of the sea but also imparted invaluable life skills and experiences. Ocean Youth Trust South, a charitable organisation, is dedicated to providing young people aged 12-25 with the opportunity to develop essential life skills, self-esteem, and social intelligence through adventure under sail. Their 30meter sailing boat, Prolific, serves as the vessel of personal development, navigating young crew members through challenges and triumphs on the open water. During the voyage, students from Cowes Enterprise College actively engaged in the workings of the ship, from steering and hoisting sails to navigating and keeping a vigilant lookout. The experience was immersive, providing students with handson knowledge and a profound appreciation for the maritime world. The journey, which included tacking up to Yarmouth, gybing down to Ryde, and anchoring in Osborne Bay, brought students closer to the marine

environment, fostering an understanding of the importance of protecting our oceans. It also aimed to inspire future maritime career opportunities among the participants. Cowes Harbour Commission generously funded this expedition, ensuring that local students had access to such an opportunity could partake in a life-changing experience. Principal Rachel Kitley of Cowes Enterprise College, said: "This experience with Ocean Youth Trust South is invaluable for our students. Cowes Students Forge Lasting Connections in Spain Cowes Enterprise College students embarked on a journey to Calahorra, La Rioja, in the North of Spain, where they experienced an enriching cultural exchange that deepened their global perspectives and created enduring connections. The exchange program saw Spanish students warmly welcomed by Cowes Enterprise College students into their homes last academic year. In September, the tables turned and the Spanish students reciprocated the hospitalty, strengthening bonds and broadening horizons. Upon their arrival in Calahorra, Cowes Enterprise College students were met with open arms by their host families.

The learning experiences were not confined to science, as they also had the chance to dig deeper into history and religious studies in Zaragoza. Visiting the Palacio de la Aljafería, a fortified medieval palace from the 11th century, and the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Basilica were among the enriching activities. The trip also had a focus on health as students underwent a full health check in the Nursing Department at the school where trainees practised their skills on our students. Activities included checking sugar levels, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, as well as practical skills like bandaging, transferring on/off beds, and hospital transport. The final days of the exchange featured physical education and geography lessons in the mountains of El Barranco Perdido, where students discovered dinosaur footprints similar to those found on the Isle of Wight.

This marked the beginning of an exciting adventure filled with an array of unique experiences. From invigorating hikes in the breath-taking mountains to captivating explorations of the charming town, students forged cherished memories. They delved into the local culture by attending an ‘corrida’, a practice bullfighting event but where no bulls are harmed). Some students even attended school with their Spanish peers. One highlight of the trip was the opportunity to visit the town hall, where Cowes Enterprise College student Isla briefly stepped into the role of Mayor of the Town.
