NEWSLETTER Friday 6th December Dear parents and carers, As the term begins to move towards its end, it’s important that our attendance, punctuality and uniform expectations remain as high as ever. Our teaching and learning will continue right through to the very end of term and our Year 11s and sixth formers are currently working hard to achieve their best in their mock exams. Our students do well at Cowes Enterprise College because of our strong expectations and we appreciate your support with these. Thank you also to parents for the strong turn-out for Year 11 parents’ evening last week. With the mocks now underway and Year 11 now half way through time-wise it’s essential for students to know in detail where to target their time and what to work on. Please continue to support and encourage your child to be resilient during this year; working hard now is a huge investment for their future and we know how much they can achieve with determination. It has been great to see so many of you supporting our school pantomime, Robin Hood and his Merry Men and this week of performances has brought us joy, entertainment and fast and furious fun. Year 6s joined us from across our feeder primaries for the dress rehearsals and we were thrilled to have so many feeder students join us for this. I would like to personally thank all those involved in the production – it looked effortless in performance but a huge amount of work goes into making a production seem this way. Thank you as always to all the parents who have so far joined me for a parent surgery since September or met me at other times during the weeks. A reminder that I hold surgeries twice weekly on a Tuesday afternoon from 1pm – 2.30pm and from 3.30pm – 5.30pm. Attendance is by pre-booked appointments only. Please either email dharrison@cowesec.org or phone the school on 01983 203103 asking for Donna Harrison to book in a slot in advance of each Tuesday. CAR PARK SAFETY

PARENT VOICE

Drop off and collections should be made on Crossfield Avenue remembering that that no parking is permitted on the white ZigZag lines surrounding the pedestrian crossing outside the Academy.

Caterlink, the academy’s catering provider will be joining us for our next parent voice meeting. This will be held on Friday January 10th 2020 from 9am – 10am. If you would like an opportunity to speak to their representative, find out what the provision is and give them some feedback then you are very welcome to come along and join us. Please email parentvoice@cowesec.org if you will be attending.

Please do not use the Academy car park to drop off and collect students without prior agreement from the Academy for you to do so. Please could we also remind parents that the disabled bay spaces are for holders of valid Blue Badges only.

UNIFORM REMINDERS VISITORS TO THE ACADEMY Please could we remind all parents and carers of our uniform expectations. We are beginning to see non-uniform trousers appear in the Academy. Please ensure that trousers are loose fitting and about the same width from knee to ankle, as stated in the Academy Uniform Requirements, available on the website. A reminder also that black jumpers should be completely black, V-neck with no visible logos. They should not be round necked sweatshirts. Skirts should not be rolled up and should be fitted to knee length or below. Jewellery and facial piercings of any description are NOT allowed. This includes nose piercings. The only jewellery allowed in school are one simple stud or sleeper in the lobe of each ear and a wristwatch. Any additional jewellery will be confiscated and securely stored to be collected by students at the end of the day.

Please could we remind all parents and carers that when visiting the Academy, they must come to Reception and be signed in by a member of staff. Visitors cannot expect to see a member of staff without a prior arranged appointment. Click here for contact information for pastoral teams Click here for contact information for teaching staff

If a student is absent, parents and carers should telephone the academy on 01983 203103 and select Option 1 before 8.30am on each day of absence, informing of the reason of absence and when their child will be returning to the academy. Phone calls need to be made every day of the student's absence. Parents are required to send a letter of explanation of absence when their child returns to school. This should be handed into reception. This letter should detail the duration and reason for absence.

COWES ENTERPRISE COLLEGE MOCK GENERAL ELECTION Following from our Climate Change Debate last week, we are offering students the opportunity to vote for the candidates that they felt would do the things on the island that students would like to see happen. We want students to experience what it is like to register to vote, complete a ballot paper, cast their vote and wait for the result. On Monday, students will be able to register to get a ballot paper from their form tutor. Only one ballot paper will be issued so please remind students to keep these safe! On election day (Thursday 12th December) mock polling booths will be open from 8.00am until 12.45pm. Students will need to cast their vote outside of lesson time. Votes will then be counted and the winner of the vote will be announced on the TV screens at the end of the day.

CHRISTMAS JUMPER DAYS On Friday 13th December we invite students to wear a Christmas jumper in place of their blazer. Only Christmas jumpers may replace a blazer. If students do not wish to wear a Christmas jumper they should wear their blazer as normal please. This will be for a suggested donation of £1 which will go to Save the Children. We will have another Christmas jumper Day on Friday 20th of December, no donation needed. Again, only blazers are to be replaced by Christmas jumpers and only Christmas jumpers are allowed. The rest of students’ uniform should follow the uniform guidelines as normal for both days.
