Dear parents/carers and students, Welcome back to the second issue of the student led newsletter!
We are delighted to hear the news of the wonderful achievements and trips the students of Cowes Enterprise College have undertaken in the last three weeks! From trips to the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth, to study maritime history and students were able to experience live theatre at both island and mainland theatres to enhance their English and Drama studies.
We also wanted to highlight the success of our students competing in Netball and Football tournaments. We are immensely proud of all those who have taken part in these; whether for the first time, or the hundredth time. Well done! We hope you enjoy this week’s issue of our newsletter

REMEMBRANCE SERVICE
Last Friday Remembrance service
The music department and school choir, led by Mrs Brihmani, sang a beautiful rendition of ‘Say Something’ accompanied by the flute to open the service.
Members of the school cadets then marched into the assembly followed by the Principal, Mrs Kitley, who gave a talk. Mr Wiltshire read his piece, ‘Faulkands 40, a war lasting 74 days’ to highlight the importance of remembering those who fought for us today.
Jess Claridge-Law then read the well-known poem, ‘For the Fallen’, followed by the musical rendition of ‘The Last Post’ played by Nathan S B.
The school body then observed a two minute silence at 11am in order to reflect on those who had sacrificed their lives for our freedom today.
Illy T B then read the Koshima poem, followed by a speech by Mr Palmer. He spoke about Elie Wiesal, a survivor of the Holocaust and later a writer, sharing his story with world.
Finally, we were delighted to welcome Rev Elizabeth Moxley who gave us a brief blessing We thank ger greatly for being part of our service.
The service was closed by Seb Waitt’s on piano, as the Cowes CCF and cadets were guided out of the service.

Student review
The hype really is justified a quantum leap forward from my experience as an undergrad at Durham. Don’t assume Russell Group are all pretty much the same. Not least, the reaction from potential employers is very different. Sure, you’ll be resented and accused of supporting elitism. But that’s inevitable and a small price to endure. And there is significant pressure to perform, but mostly from seeing how your peers perform. Staff are mostly highly supportive, with the odd exception (sometimes very odd!) who’s brilliant but socially dysfunctional. You learn to deal with it. Net result is an environment that has enabled me to achieve significantly more than I thought myself capable of. And in a privileged and cosseting environment. If you’re offered the opportunity, don’t hesitate.

Student Review
The city is fantastic. It's vibrant and diverse with a lot of things to do. My lecturers are really inspiring and driven by passion. The communication with students could be improved, things can get confusing sometimes. The housing crisis is big in Bristol and it's sad to see the university isn't trying to do anything about it.

The facilities are wonderful and the staff are exceptionally supportive, there are still buildings being built on campus as I type for the sports students. The music department has professional industry standard equipment and so does the media department, it is a pleasure to study in.
