Carol Moore, who has served as executive director of The Newnan Centre since, well, there was a Newnan Centre, is exiting stage left after 11 years at the helm. She said she plans to “hang around” Newnan. We want to thank her for making the Centre one of the crown jewels for the city of Newnan. Taking her place, whom Carol calls her “mini me,” is Newnan native Peyton Shelnutt, who has worked with Carol for several years. We wish Peyton continued success.

Four outstanding Coweta County students have been named recipients of the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteer (MGEV) annual scholarship program. These students – Thomas Zamora, John Monnin, Mayson Glover and Catherine “Kitty” Yeager – were awarded a scholarship in the amount of $1,000. In addition, one student – Jaret Webb – received the $1,500 Pat Clayton Scholarship Award in memory of its namesake, who served as MGEV scholarship committee chairperson until her passing.

West Georgia Technical College President Dr. Julie Post named Steve Cromer as the new Vice President of Economic Development at West Georgia Technical College (WGTC). Cromer has been employed with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) since 1999.

Canongate Elementary’s Mollie Wilson was announced as Coweta County’s 2023 Teacher of the Year. Wilson, a third grade teacher at the north Coweta elementary school, was chosen from among three finalists and 33 Coweta school Teachers of the Year. Wilson will also serve as Coweta’s nominee for Georgia Teacher of the Year. Mary Amoson, a Kindergarten teacher at Brooks Elementary School, and Julie Eidson, a 6th Grade Science teacher at East Coweta Middle School, were also chosen as finalists for the annual honor. [ [ [
