2023-24 School Year starts August 2

The Coweta County School System will begin its 2023-24 school year on Wednesday, August 2.

Parents and students will be able to visit schools and meet teachers on Tuesday, August 1, before the start of the new school year:

• Middle Schools: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (all middle schools)

• Elementary Schools: 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (all elementary schools) will also be posted on the school system’s website before the start of school.

Parents who have transportation or school district questions can also call the school system’s Transportation Department at 770-254-2820.

Regarding the 2023-24 school year, it will have 180 instructional days, 90 in each semester with inclement weather days built in.

Summer is in full swing, and anticipation is building as the 2023 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair draws near!

This is one of Coweta’s favorite annual events and is set for September 14th to 24th. Folks need to prepare themselves for 11 days worth of unforgettable experiences filled with thrills, delectable food, captivating music, and boundless excitement. But hold on tight because there’s so much more to this fair than meets the eye.

Did you know that the fair hosts a variety of engaging livestock shows and competitions for all ages to participate in? Whether you’re a child or an adult, you’ll find a contest tailored just for you.

Let your inner Lumberjack or Lumberjill emerge in nail driving, crosscut, pulpwood toss, and pole climbing events, competing for the coveted Lumberjack/Lumberjill of the Year trophy and additional prize money.

Young ones in Pre-K through 7th grade can showcase their artistic flair in the Gingerbread House Decorating contest, provided with all the necessary supplies to create their most beautiful masterpiece in just thirty minutes. The winning gingerbread houses will be proudly displayed at the fair for all to admire.

Celebrate your happiest birthday by participating in the Youth Creative Birthday Cake Decorating contest, where you’ll bring your own baked cake and frosting supplies and transform them into a creatively designed birthday cake within an hour. Judges will evaluate your cake based on design, technique, appearance, and use of materials.

For school-age children up to seventh grade, the opportunity to decorate a Cookie Bouquet awaits, with supplies provided for them to craft a tasty bouquet to showcase. Youth have thirty minutes to bring their decorating skills to life without assistance

High Schools typically hold their orientations from 2 to 4 p.m. on that day, but have individual schedules that expand on those times Many elementary and middle schools also go beyond those times to hold additional open houses or other special back-to-school events. School websites, linked at www.cowetaschools. net, will include updated information for these and other school-specific activities in the new year.

Representatives from the school system’s transportation department will be available at all schools during the Aug. 1 Orientation, and on the first day of school on Aug.2, to provide information about bus schedules. School bus routes for the new school year

Parents who wish to enroll their elementary-age children in the school system’s tuition-based After School Program will also be able to do so on July 31 and August 1 at their child’s school. Representatives will be available between the hours of 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at each elementary school, and will also attend special back-to-school events for student sign-ups.

Parents who need to register their children for the first time can do so through the school system’s Central Registration Center. Parents whose children are not yet registered are urged to do so as early as possible, by going to the online registration system, or by contacting the center at registrationcenter@cowetaschools.net. The office may also be called at 770-254-5551.
