Guitar Lessons

It is estimated that two out of three households have a computer and access to the internet. While this means access to many valuable resources, it also means that there are risks involved. Think about this: 26% of kids ages 9 to 15 went to meet a friend that they met online without the permission of their parents. What that tells us is that kids either don’t know the rules, or don’t understand the seriousness of the threat. Cyber Safe covers the topic of internet safety through interactive, non-threatening and entertaining lessons. Course includes Cyber Safe student book. Location: Kerry Park

The Dancing Fingers Acoustic Guitar program is designed to take participants from an introductory level to building a solid musical foundation upon which you can build musical competency. Focus will be both on theory and practical while examining many styles including classical, folk, and pop music. Participants must bring a classical (nylon string) guitar or acoustic (steel string) guitar. Classical guitar is strongly preferred for beginners because the nylon strings are much easier on young fingers. Instructor: Darryl Alsbrook Location: George Bonner School

Gentle Flow Yoga

Yoga Programs

with Lise Duncan

Lise Duncan

Lise has over fourteen years of diverse experience in the health and fitness industry which she directs into her yoga practices and studies. Her training focuses on developing customized programs that complement and benefit individual lifestyles. Lise directs her teaching style by stressing safety and technique while she provides an environment that is light-hearted and noncompetitive.

Lise’s Slow Flow Power Yoga

The original Flow style of Power Yoga that you’ve come to love, open to all levels as always, and never the same class twice. Improve balance, coordination, stamina, and strength, while focusing the mind to better manage stress, pain, and fatigue. The main goal of yoga is to practice presence of mind on and off our mats; through mindful movement and breath control, we move with awareness through challenging pose sequences that are still profoundly relaxing. Lise’s Slow Flow Power Yoga is excellent for developing physical and mental discipline in a safe, non-competitive environment. Some experience in yoga and/or a moderate fitness level are highly recommended for this class. Instructor: Lise Duncan Location: Kerry Park Recreation Wednesday 6:00 - 7:00 pm 8 Sessions $92

Nov 2 - Dec 14

Gentle Flow Yoga is done in Lise’s original flowing Hatha style, slowed down and modified for beginners. Extra time allows for attention to breathing techniques, body awareness, and proper alignment, making this practice suitable for those recovering from injuries. In focusing the mind through careful control of breath and body, you can expect improvements in strength, stamina, balance, flexibility and general well-being. This class is energizing, rejuvenating and relaxing - a great mid-week addition to any health and fitness program! Please speak to Lise directly with questions/ concerns at 250-701-3731. Poses are modified to every body type and level of ability, with extra time spent doing gentle stretches to warm up the neck, back, shoulders, feet, and hands. It is more essential than ever in the senior years to keep your spine flexible since “you are only as young as your spine is flexible”. In each class there is ample time spent on deep breathing exercises to increase lung capacity and to bring focus and attention to your body in the present moment. Exercises, once learned, can easily be applied at home or anywhere with only a yoga mat and a desire to keep the aches of aging at bay. Belly Dancing offers us the chance to gather with women friends, which has been shown to improve our health. Like all exercise, it also encourages our bodies to release endorphins, thus moderating stress and feelings of frustration. Yesca’s goal is to inspire and cultivate “elegant power” in the dancer, and to reassure her that her body will learn the moves, given time, practice, patience and a sense of fun. Come experience the joys of Belly Dancing and improve your life at the same time! Wear comfortable clothes. Instructor: Jessica North O’Connell Location: Kerry Park Recreation

Parenting Class

Notwithstanding our conscious hopes and desires for our children, our unconscious programming; those things brought forward from our own childhoods that have not been effectively resolved and that we experience in our current lives as fears, blocks to happiness or as painful, will inevitably have an impact on our parenting and on our children. In an atmosphere of acceptance and curiosity, with no judgment or blame, we examine and heal those places deep inside where the parent still feels like a hurt and frightened child. The parent, healed, is then free to create a relationship with his or her children in a new, loving and supportive way rather than creating yet another generation of hurt and frightened children. Instructor: Leslie Kleiman & Joe Barton Location: Mill Bay Hall Saturday 10:00 am - 4:00 pm 1 Session $100 Or $150 per couple.

She maintains a consulting practice in Mill Bay and can be heard on www.Newsforthesoul. com every Wednesday morning at 11:00.
