SWASHBUCKLING PIRATES A HIT

Woman escapes kidnap attempt KEVIN ROTHBAUER CITIZEN

Police are trying to track down a man who tried to confine a hitchhiker to his truck in an incident in mid-January. The female hitchhiker was given a lift on Chemainus Road from a man in a small, blue pickup truck — possibly a Ford Ranger. The driver attempted to grab the woman’s leg and refused to allow her to exit the vehicle. She managed to jump out, however, when the truck slowed down near the highway, and she ran to safety. The truck continued southbound down the highway. The driver is described as about 45 years old, with grey hair and a goatee. He had a medium build and rough, worn-looking hands. Anyone with information should contact Ladysmith RCMP at 250245-6070 or Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477).

‘Poor wandering one,” sings the lovely young Mabel (Hanna Seinen) to her pirate beau, Frederic, (Rupert Koyote) in the South Island Musical Theatre Society’s production of The Pirates of Penzance, which continues this weekend at the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre.
