HALLOWEEN SYMBOLS REVEALED People familiar with Halloween know that certain animals, symbols and imagery are commonly used as decorations, with a goal of setting a mysterious and frightful scene. But some of these same items are far more innocuous when examined after Halloween has come and gone. The following are some of the more frequently used Halloween images and the truth behind these oftmisinterpreted decorations. Bats Dracula can transform into a vampire bat and sneak inside of a home unseen, correct? Many people fear bats unnecessarily, and not just for their connection to horror folklore. Bats are small mammals, and the only mammals capable of sustained flight. Roughly 70 percent of bats are insectivores, and they can be quite helpful to have around. Bats begin to take flight at dusk and eat millions of insects, including pesky mosquitoes.
But many bats eat fruit. A few species, like vampire bats, do feed on blood, but largely prefer blood from other animals and occasionally birds. While vampire bats can feed on the blood of humans, such instances are rare, and a person would have to be sleeping where the bats live. Wolves Wolves communicate through a soulful howl, and such howls are often heard in horror films, which has helped paint a scary picture of wolves. But wolves often have more to fear from humans than vice versa. According to National Geographic, gray wolves that once populated large portions of North America, Europe and Asia were hunted to near extinction. Red wolves, which live in the southeastern United States, are endangered and actually became extinct in the wild in 1980. Many wolves are highly gregarious animals that prefer to interact with other members of their pack and are not
actually dangerous to humans, despite how they are portrayed in movies. Zombies Zombies do not exist in the real world, but they have frequently appeared in pop culture and are often more visible come Halloween. Zombies are supposedly resurrected dead that roam the earth and then turn others into zombies by biting them and passing infected saliva. In the real world, dead bodies cannot move and roam the earth, but air and gases in the body may be released and cause slight movement after death. Rigor mortis, or the stiffening of the body upon death, may also cause twitches or slight movement. This is natural and should not be mistaken for an impending zombie apocalypse. Halloween is associated with many different images, many of which are far less scary in reality than they are in the fictional tales common come Halloween.
THE BASICS
KOZZEEWRAP™ is used as an insulation against radiant heat transfer and can be used to its greatest advantage in instances where radiation is the predominant means of heat transfer. The bright aluminum surface of all KOZZEEWRAP™ products provide insulation properties in two ways: • As an excellent reflector of all long wave radiant heat that strikes it - up to 97% of all radiant heat. • By re-radiating only 3% of heat in which it comes into close physical contact, compared with approximately 90% reradiation of traditional insulating materials at the same temperature. How does KOZZEEWRAP™ work? Unlike mass insulation which only slows down or resists heat transfer, KOZZEEWRAP™ reflects heat. Heat naturally turns cold so the problem is to keep the heat in during winter and out during summer. There are three ways in which heat transfers from warm space to cold space: • Conduction: direct heat flow through a solid object like a wall or ceiling. • Convection: heat movement through air occurring when air is warmed. Warm air expands, becomes less dense and rises. • Radiation: movement of heat rays across air spaces from one warm object to another cooler one. The heat we feel from a wood stove or quartz space heater is an example of radiant heat. All objects and bodies give off radiant heat! Even the insulation in your attic gives off radiant heat to the cold attic space in winter and to the living space in the summer. Regular insulation won’t stop radiant heat loss. It must be reflected with a radiant barrier. What is the “R” Value of KOZZEEWRAP™? The “R” value depends on the number and size of the air spaces surrounding the Radiant Barrier and on the direction of the heat flow. Since KOZZEEWRAP™ is usually installed on top of the existing mass insulation, its R-value is a moot point. Its ability to reflect heat makes KOZZEEWRAP™ a great energy saver. How can KOZZEEWRAP™ keep me warmer in winter? Just like wrapping a baked potato in aluminium foil keeps it warm longer by holding in the heat, covering your attic insulation with Radiant Barrier holds the heat in the house. Another analogy would be that in winter Radiant Barrier works just like a space blanket, which, although very thin and lightweight, holds in your body heat. A thin space blanket can keep you warmer than several heavy blankets. How does it keep heat out in summer? Like a space suit, KOZZEEWRAP™ reflects the sun’s heat before it can warm up the insulation in your attic. When the insulation stays cooler, your house will too. Just like a space suit or thermos bottle, the reflective surface inhibits radiant heat transfer. If the bottle starts out hot, it stays hot because very little heat is transferred to the cooler outside. If it starts out cold, it stays cold because very little heat is transferred from the warmer outside. Will the roof be hotter with KOZZEEWRAP™ in my attic? No. Field tests in the south where Radiant Barrier is used extensively, shows no difference in roof temperature. Do I have to remove my old insulation to install Radiant Barrier? No. KOZZEEWRAP™ actually makes your present insulation more effective.

Isn’t foil-faced fiberglass just as good as KOZZEEWRAP™? No. The foil on fiberglass is in direct contact with the attic floor. Aluminium foil becomes more conductive when in contact with a solid surface. The air space facing the foil surface is of primary importance. I already have plenty of insulation in my attic. Do I really need KOZZEEWRAP™? Regardless of how much insulation you have in your attic, adding KOZZEEWRAP™ will save on heating and cooling expense and keep you much more comfortable. Energy savings for heating and cooling can vary from 1 0% to 45% depending upon a number of factors including climate, materials used, site, building configuration, family size, and lifestyle, etc
