Welcome Again it is our pleasure to welcome you to our annual bull sale. We would like to take this moment to thank all our valued customers and dear friends we have made along the way. Your support for our program, we are truly thankful for and we do not take it for granted.

Mother nature again this year has given us very little to no moisture so needless to say cost of feed is through the roof, we had to make a big decision to cull bulls really hard in the fall and pick only 25 to sell. We feel we have a good strong set of red & black yearling bulls on offer and we feel confident that they will go out and work in any program or conditions. Each year we work hard to bring our highest quality of herd sire prospects to the sale and this year is no exception. We have always maintained a high standard for our female program and always work to keep our program moving forward, ultimately providing our customers cattle that will go home and work as hard for them as we would like them to work for us. As for our herd sire’s we have a very uniform group of bulls that have tremendous amount of natural muscling and very thick made.

We develop our yearling bulls slowly to maximize their longevity. Our bull pen is hand feed 12 lbs of bull ration and free choice of grass/hay mix, so they are ready to go to work when you need them. This year we have decided to change things up by selling the bulls online March 5th & 6th on DLMS.ca Farm Gate Timed Auction. All the info for the sale and how to get on and bid is offered in the catalog. Feel free to call us or DLMS if you are needing any help with it. Well where do we start with this guy. Just very impressive and eye appealing. We purchased Gage from Kraft Gelbvieh in North Dakoda as a calf and he has proven himself to be a great contender for a good solid herd sire. He is a very soggy made individual with tremendous thickness to his hind quarter and rib. We are very impressed with his progeny they are super charged with lots of substance, style and eye appeal. The bulls are very masculine and thick the heifers are super soggy made as well. He is a good fit for our program he profiles pretty much the same as the Craftsman bull we had.

Big, growth herd sire prospect who has topped the scale at weaning with his extra length of spin, thickness and just good body structure. UNDERSTANDING EPD’S CALVING EASE DIRECT (CE)

CALVING EASE MATERNAL (CEM)

CARCASS WEIGHT (CW)

Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd.

Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW)

Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s first-calving daughters. A higher number represents more favorable calving ease. This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals pro-duce daughters with a genetic predisposition to calve unassisted as heifers.

Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.

STAYABILITY (ST)

MARBLING (MB)

Predicts the genetic difference, in terms of percent probability, that a bull’s daughters will stay productive within a herd to at least six year of age. The stayability EPD is one of the best measures currently available to compare a bull’s abil-ity to produce females with reproductive longevity.

Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.

WEANING WEIGHT (WW) Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

YEARLING WEIGHT (YW) Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

MILK (MILK)

YIELD GRADE (YG) Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio.

RIBEYE AREA (REA) Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.

FAT (FAT) Differences for fat thickness, in inches, for a carcass over the 12th rib, smaller numbers of fat thickness are preferable as excess fat can be detrimental to yield grade.

The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.

Visit dlms.ca and follow the link to the DLMS Farm Gate timed auction site www.farmgatetimedauctions.ca, click the LOGIN/ REGISTRATION button. First time users will select the REGISTER button from this page. Fill out the registration form to signup for a free user account and it allows you to select a username and password for use on all Farm Gate Timed auctions. This program will send you text and email messages whenever there is activity on your favorite lots, or someone challenges your proxy bid and this is why you will be asked for both your current email and cell phone number. If you are a past participant in the Farm Gate Timed auctions simply enter your username and password to continue. This takes you to a list of both current and upcoming Farm Gate Auctions. You can choose your favourite lots in this sale at this time and the program will allow you to open either all sale lots or just your favorite lots on your screen. Any time there is active bidding on a lot you have identified on your favorite list you will get a text and/or an email noting this activity. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. FAQ WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE? Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK? When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
