o visible glue lines, no need for hot melt adhesive, increased production quality and greater productivity are just some of the advantages offered by Döllken’s Fusion-Edge. The development of the new laser application process for narrow surface coating meant that there was a need for new edging technology - achieved by Döllken with the development of Fusion-Edge that creates a seamless union of edge and panel - without hot melt adhesive. The development has already been issued with the M Technology Award by iF Design, Hanover.

GET AHEAD WITH FUSION The technical brilliance of Fusion-Edge is concentrated in the functional layer. Döllken’s development engineers have succeeded in ensuring perfect compatibility with the customer’s lasers and FusionEdge, which offers the best initial adhesion combined with a low energy requirement when compared to other products on the market. Power fluctuations that are difficult and complex to adjust to by the processor using new laser settings are unknown when using quality products from Döllken. This ongoing production and application support is a direct result of the intensive testing of Fusion-Edge carried out on Döllken’s own laser edgeband machine. Döllken is the world’s first edgeband manufacturer to have its own laser edgeband machine. It is used for process monitoring and for the determination of performance parameters. Laser technology has been in use for over two years by customers. The straight line edgebander (KAM) for rectangular components has been running smoothly throughout this time and users report good processing and a flawless look. This technology is now available for working centres (BAZ), making it ideal for the office furniture industry. Laser BAZ machines are equipped with a diode laser and are similar to KAM machines but due to the increased complexity in terms of required laser power, joint quality and flexibility, Döllken has chosen to concentrate on the proven PP Premium quality for FusionEdge for the BAZ. The co-extruded Fusion-Edge in 28 by 3mm size has a very high initial adhesion coupled with good flexibility that ensures that tight radii can be realised. In experiments with machine manufacturers, external radii of 30mm at speeds of 3-4m/min were achieved. Fusion-Edge can be ordered in quantities as small as just one roll. The Instant Edgeband Program contains the most popular designs. For processors using small to medium batch sizes it is now possible to combine standard ABS edges with Fusion-Edge ABS Premium. The customer can order edgebands in any size, colour or embossing and combine the production of standard products with the laser edge variety.

SUPERMATT SENSATION

D

öllken has underlined its pioneering role in the field of edgeband innovation with a new effect that offers exciting new possibilities for contemporary furniture design. Supermatt is the world’s first nearly scratch resistant super matt surface for thermoplastic edgebands made especially for PP. Matt surfaces are now very much on trend after many years of domination by high gloss. Based on the latest technology, Döllken has created a near perfect surface with extreme scratch or marking resistance. This superior surface feature gives the processors trouble free production and the customer a durable piece of furniture. Döllken has placed particular emphasis on snag free production so the throughput figures of end users should show an improvement, even in super matt. In addition to the superior optical and mechanical properties of the coating, the new Supermatt surface also impresses with its tactile, velvety feel, which is similar to soft touch coatings. The Supermatt surface is subject to strict quality controls and is available as PP edgebands and PP Fusion Edge, both meeting the strict standards of the furniture industry and especially kitchen manufacturers

The robust qualities of Supermatt make it ideal for use by kitchen manufacturers.

The surface is highly scratch resistant.

H3753 ST22 Country Montana Larch.

The use of rustic woodgrain designs with features such as knots, cracks and saw cuts demonstrates the trend towards the natural look. This is clearly seen in the new H3753 ST22 Country Montana Larch, a next generation softwood design that could be considered a modern alternative to pine. Natural material such as metal and stone are also growing in popularity. F274 ST9 Light Concrete demonstrates this trend and is a realistic interpretation of concrete, ideal for creating urban or industrial style interiors.

Imperfections, especially in woodgrains, that would previously be seen as faults are now fashionable as designers seek a more authentic look. The variation in colour demonstrated in these new, more natural designs, allows them to work harmoniously with natural solid colours. With mix and match still very much a trend this creates more choice and individuality for the consumer. H3700 ST10 Natural Pacific Walnut is a new, highly realistic walnut reproduction with an authentic, natural character that is perfect for this trend.

E

lements from nature continue to be a source of inspiration for design ideas within the home as the use of natural woodgrains, materials and solid colours becomes increasingly popular. These trends are reflected in the Zoom 2012-2013 collection from Egger. Groundbreaking advances have been made to boost the quality and realism of Egger décors, offering a more competitive and low maintenance alterative to solid wood and real wood veneer products. For information, samples, décor combination advice visit www.egger.co.uk/zoom or call the Zoom Hotline on 0845 606 8888 (local rate).

DESIGN GOES NATURAL ST10 Authentic used with textiles and materials such as F425 Beige Linen.

Texture is also increasingly important as the trend to use more natural elements and to utilise texture to create contrast with solid colours continues. This is demonstrated by the inclusion of new textures such as ST10 Authentic which is a realistic rough matt finish for wood and material reproductions and ST18 Waveline – a new horizontal texture that adds new levels of depth to solid colours.

Always a trend-setter, David Clouting Ltd offers novel ideas and on-trend décors to manufacturers large and small. The company's recent participation in W12 saw several new décor designs make their UK debuts, among them a pair of stunning African Walnut foils, contrasting light and dark stone effects which provide solid surface feel and effect at much less cost - and a brand new interpretation of Sawcut embossed into unicolours. ustria based FunderMax has a mission statement to be among the best trend and décor masters in Central Europe and beyond – and has achieved this aim with its current interior collection. The company has identified four highlights of this new collection. Documents and samples for FunderMax's entire product range are available from their long time partner in the UK, Decormax Limited, who have two depots, one in Wakefield, and the other in Leicester - strategically placed to offer UK customers a prompt, first class service. Please email sales@decormax-ltd.co.uk, phone 01924 267979 or 0116 253 0555 or visit online at www.decormax.co.uk or www.fundermax.at

Highlight one… versatility

FunderMax now offers all plain colours and wood décors as thin laminates (HPL) and as Star Favorit MFC material. This opens up new perspectives for designing interiors as well as for further processing since the previous limits in the application of the décors now cease to exist. Whatever you want, all the way, from Noce Nero to Radiant White can be implemented creatively to suit customers. They can also obtain the doors as Compact Interior Panels (pictured). Highlight three... the collection’s breadth

There are 28 new Fancy décors, some with breathtaking visual effects, plus 22 exciting Art décors. FunderMax has developed these finishes using a digital printing process. In addition, 23 new wood décors, five new metal décors and seven new plain colours represent a new level of quality and choice in design. These additions have boosted the collection by 30 percent.

Highlight two... the innovative surface finish

The new Mirror Gloss surface finish is a high quality effect that is 20 percent glossier. The Structura surface finish reveals its strength with the wood and design décors that feature longitudinal patterns. The design décors also have a tactile surface. The Royal Matte surface is elegant, discreet and unmistakably regal.

, more choice, more design flexibility.

Highlight four... panels with white core

The Max Thin laminate (HPL) Star Favorit Superfront with white core and Max Compact Interior with white core are new products especially for furniture construction. Dark edge corners on laminated furniture or commercial furnishings can be avoided, giving a uniform appearance. In Max Compact interior with white core, form and function correspond to Compact panels with black core. Applications using the solid white coloured panel core make new designs possible. New millings within the surface are achievable as are targeted edge designs. With the new white core panels, top surfaces can be created in many different ways thanks to the abundance of décors in the current collection.

Hearts of oak… Trojan PA (left) has a warm golden brown colour with a pearl element, giving added vitality to the finished look. This modern, fresh oak is an intricate design with subtle planking, fine wood ticking and precise detailing, bringing depth and variety to the overall effect. The design is finished with a new wood touch emboss, giving a realistic natural effect. Luan Oak Tobacco (right) has a natural looking threedimensional crosshatched design embellished with a saw cut emboss. Large planked cathedrals add structure to finely grained sections which alternate with stripes and gentle growth rings. Shown here with Luan Oak Tobacco is Mountain Larch Cappuccino P, a deep embossed linear textured design. Restrained planks separate alternating sections of bi-directional graining, creating movement within the design. This décor will suit a variety of different furniture styles and rooms including bedrooms, living areas and kitchens.

Something special The new Moulins design is reminiscent of a concrete structure and has a two-colour square print. Given its very subtle printed design, the finish can also be used as a pseudo solid colour. The natural grey makes it suitable for combining with various plain shades. Cobra is a fantasy design that picks up on the current trend towards irregular stripes and geometric patterns. The design is modern and contrasting. It is most suitable for combination with the three colours that feature within the design - greys, coffees and blues all work well.

Leading by design – more best new looks from 2012 Take a shine to gloss Named in Italian after popular varieties of plants that feature their colour, the 15 Renolit Alkoren high gloss colours cover an extensive spectrum. From whites and creams, beiges and greys to strong vibrant orange, red or lime green and dark, sophisticated shades of grey, aubergine and black, this range has a colour to fill every space with flamboyant character.

From left to right: 1. Nera, Billbergia, Agave. 2. Peonia, Cappuchino, Rosa Tea. 3. Gerbera, Peperoncino Rosso, Edera, Aubergine.

Swiss Elm is full of character with strong cathedrals, light linear graining and minute expressive detail. It is available in three colour variations, ranging from the atmospheric and stylish Swiss Elm Dark through the natural tones of Swiss Elm Warm to the pale Swiss Elm Bleached with soft grey undertones which is also with a high gloss finish to provide an ultramodern stylish design.

Pacific is a striking modern walnut that combines an interesting and visually stunning combination of wood design styling. It is produced with the new Woodtex emboss to give a super realistic appearance. It is available in lighter Pacific A and darker Pacific B.

L

eading by design has always been the philosophy at Renolit with imaginative designs key to the company’s success in the market for thermoforming 3D veneers. Highly realistic woodgrain designs, on trend solid colours in matt and high gloss finishes and modern textured surfaces all have their place. In the current difficult economic climate it has never been more important than it is now to inspire and encourage the market with exceptional new décors. With this in mind. Renolit has launched 16 new designs and ten high gloss colours into the already impressive Renolit Covaren and Renolit Alkoren 3D stock ranges. The new additions include outstanding woodgrain designs, printed effects, surface textures and high gloss solid colours. The new introductions are listed here: Elm: Swiss Elm in three colours, one in high gloss. Walnut: Pacific with a light and dark choice. Textured solid colours: Elegant Ash, Okasha and Saw Cut textured surfaces. Conifers: Mountain Larch Cappuccino P. Oak: Luan Oak Tobacco, Trojan PA and Foscari Oak Pale Nat. Special effects: Modern effects of Cobra and Moulins SC. High gloss solid colours: A modern selection of ten fashionable colours.

of the 2 A touch of texture Three new textured surface structures have been introduced to meet the growing need in the market for improved visual and tactile structured surfaces.

3.

Elegant Ash is a detailed ash textured surface with a matt finish to replicate a painted wood look. It is available in Platinum White and Soft Cream. Okasha White is a unique emboss that combines a widely spaced distinctive ash with an authentic oak woodgrain in the interlying flat areas. Saw Cut White reflects the surface of freshly sawn wood. Its tri-dimensional character and deep structure perfectly meet this new trend. Deep horizontal and vertical saw marks create an irregular angular structure above an underlying oak pore within the open surface spaces of the rich white background.

Eight of the designs are available as PAR-KY veneered flooring. Shinnoki is supplied 19mm thick in a board size of 2790 x 1240mm. HIF-Finesse is a revolution in conventional timber veneer panelling that gives dimension, depth and texture to an otherwise flat surface. Available in a mixture of contemporary designs and patterns, HIF-Finesse offers 11 embossed MDF panels which are supplied with their own textured finish. Manufactured in Germany, the panels are produced by applying 100,000 tonnes of pressure per square metre in a specialist press, creating the unique appearance of the product, which would otherwise have a flat surface. HIF-Finesse is available from James Latham in profiles and thicknesses from 1050 x 2450 x 18/21mm, 635 x 2450 x 21mm and 1270 x 3135 x 21mm, depending on the pattern.
