Video compression expert

Two decades of commitment to outstanding standards and sustained research have given ATEME today the most advanced implementations of video compression technology. ATEME is the world leading provider of HEVC / H.265, MPEG-4 / H.264 and MPEG-2 –their encoding solutions are used widely for broadcast contribution links, distribution, multi-screen live streaming, OTT and VOD applications. Their home grown algorithms are at the heart of their products and solutions.

ATEME’s products include contribution encoders, distribution encoders, transcoders, integrated receiver decoders, multiplexers and network management systems. Headquartered in Bievres, near Paris, France, ATEME operates worldwide through its distribution channels and support offices. ATEME targets bandwidth sensitive applications where its unrivalled compression efficiency delivers an increased quality of experience for the audience, while reducing customer operating costs.

Building Momentum The global proliferation of viewing devices, the launch of multi-format and Over-The-Top services supporting those devices and the continued transition from SD to HD in many regions of the world have seen ATEME achieve significant milestones in customer adoption and corporate growth.

ATEME demonstrated a 50% increase in global revenues in 2012, with positive cash flow and return on equity across all product lines and international markets. The company experienced double-digit growth in North America and EMEA, and a near 100% increase in emerging markets including APAC and Latin America. The company’s pioneering MPEG-4 4:2:2 10-bit high quality encoding technology has now become the de facto standard for highend sports contribution applications. Major international sports events such as the London Olympics and the Euro Football Championship in the summer of 2012 led to substantial investments in broadcast contribution infrastructure, further bolstering the company’s financial metrics.

Industry analyst firm Frost & Sullivan recognised ATEME with the 2012 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Market Penetration Leadership, as one of the few companies that have shown outstanding growth in both encoding and transcoding product lines.

Performance Highlights:

Established regional operation centres in Miami, USA, for the Americas region and Seoul, Korea, for the Asia Pacific region to provide closer in-market sales support, customer engineering, repair and logistics services.

Strengthened the company’s product portfolio through continuing development of its Kyrion line of hardware encoders and its TITAN line of file and live content transcoding software for multi-screen delivery.

Recent Successful Projects Kyrion CM5000 for ISOL In December 2013, ISOL, the leading independent provider of satellite services in Beirut, Lebanon, chose the Kyrion CM5000 for its Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG).

Key Points Based in the centre of Beirut, ISOL operates its own fleet of vehicles and fly-aways. ISOL’s clients include leading news broadcasters in the Middle East and throughout the world such as Al Arabiya, Sky News Arabic, CNN, Al Hourra and the BBC.

ISOL selected ATEME’s Kyrion CM5000 encoder in a configuration that is dedicated to news professionals. The encoder includes satellite modulation to save costs and space in vehicles and fly-aways and additional features that effectively simplify field operations, reduce setup time and minimise the risk of configuration errors.

The Kyrion CM5000 delivers perfect picture quality even at low bitrates compared to other dedicated encoders that are used for news broadcasts. ATEME’s unmatched video compression performance allows ISOL to deliver flawless broadcasts to the most demanding news channels worldwide, despite bandwidth limitations.

TITAN powers combined IPTV/OTT service for Saudi Telecom Intigral chose ATEME’s TITAN carrier grade transcoding solution because of its support for both IPTV and adaptive streaming video, and its ability to deliver video content at the highest possible quality to multiple screens. A joint venture between Saudi Telecom Company (STC) and All Asia Networks (ASTRO), Intigral is a one-stop shop meeting all the content delivery needs of operators in the Middle East.

Intigral first deployed ATEME’s TITAN KFE standalone transcoding software early in 2012, for delivering VOD to STC’s IPTV customers in Saudi Arabia, but has now replaced that with TITAN File transcoding farm to increase throughput. High performance and excellent support from ATEME for the offline VOD transcoding makes TITAN the right choice for expanding into OTT streaming.

Intigral is currently aggregating content at its operation centre in Dubai and then distributing it to STC over a 155 Mbps fibre link. Intigral currently has 20

TITAN nodes and plan to install more as service expands. Currently the platform serves 70,000 STC IPTV customers, but aim to reach 200,000 to 300,000 by 2015. Intigral is planning to be an aggregator of content serving the wider Middle East region, as well as expanding in Saudi Arabia via OTT.

Apart from its support for both IPTV and OTT VOD, Intigral selected TITAN for its flexibility and ability to meet all transcoding needs at different formats and bitrates, all with optimal video quality. Other important factors, particularly relevant for Intigral, were the rugged design ensuring high reliability in the field, and ability to manage Arabic subtitles for content in other languages such as English. Kyrion dual channel encoder Leveraging a complete modularity, the Kyrion CM5000 platform can be provided as a dual channel encoder to optimise video contribution links. Single channel encoder with builtin modulation. To match tied DSNG trucks ecosystems, the Kyrion CM5000 platform is provided as a single channel with a built-in modulator.

Distribution encoders The AS2204 – AM2102 deliver pristine video quality at very low bitrates for IPTV, DVB-T, DVB-S, DVB-C and ISDB-T video headends.

Kyrion Modular encoder

The Kyrion CM5000 is a modular hardware encoding platform dedicated to contribution over satellite and IP/ASI networks. It can be mounted as a single or dual channels encoder. Transcoders TITAN Live and TITAN File/KFE enable live/file-based converging workflow for TV, web and mobile deliveries.

Integrated receiver decoders Professional IRDs DR8100, DR5000, DR8400, DR2100 and MC3000 offer powerful and cost-effective receiving and decoding solutions.

Multiplexers Modular platform MC3100 and dynamic statistical rate allocator SR1000 provide flexible scrambling in addition to multiplexing solutions.

Network management system DataMiner is an open and flexible supervision solution providing a fully customisable monitoring and management tool for Video Head Ends. It is the leading multi-vendor network management solution for IPTV, satellite, broadcast and cable.
