BroAdcAst video, Audio And control redefined
After nearly five decades of German innovation, Lawo leads the field in IP-based video, audio and control for TV and radio broadcast production. Extensively used in sports and entertainment and in theatres and houses of worship worldwide, the company’s products cover IP video core infrastructure, video processing and routing, audio-to-IP interfacing and digital audio mixing and routing. Lawo’s VSM open control system supports more protocols and devices than any other and excels in the most complex production scenarios. Lawo provides dry-hire and turnkey solutions for international sports and entertainment events.
Run by the founder’s son Philipp Lawo, the family-owned company employs staff in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Americas, with more than 40 international representatives and partners.
Lawo maintains its defining role in global sports broadcast with massive IP installations, used at last year’s events in France and Brazil. Also proving its industry redefining remote broadcasting concept, a ‘dream team’ tieup in Belgium has resulted in the Proximus League, broadcasting all football matches live using Lawo’s IP remote infrastructure. With more than 400,000 spectators gathered at the Eiffel Tower, Bastille Day’s celebrations demonstrated Lawo’s latest technologies in live sound and broadcast across France and beyond.
Lawo supports the MNA initiative for implementation of the AES67 standard across its full product range. Assisting the transition to IP-based infrastructures, Lawo encourages manufacturers to embrace interoperability and open standards. The company is founding member of Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), encouraging video- and audio-overIP solutions brought to market offer full interoperability.

Lawo’s VSM-System (Virtual Studio Manager) software offers IP-based control and monitoring, integrating management of all TV and radio production equipment in OB vans, studio facilities, and TV and radio MCRs. VSM uses a TCP/IP backbone and manufacturer-independent protocols to control all major brands and models of video and audio routers, video and audio mixers,
intercoms, UMDs and multi-viewers, glue and other third-party devices. theWALL configures any video monitor wall, routing signals, changing mosaic layouts and save/loading presets through an HTML5based app run on any mobile device. It enables operators and engineers to configure monitor walls in OBs or studios swiftly and on-thefly, saving setup time during production and bringing new levels of efficiency and usability.

Alongside an Emmy Engineering Plaque, Lawo’s awards include the IABM award for the EBU/ VRT Live IP project and the TVB Award for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 (together with ORF and EBU) in the category of Outstanding Broadcast. Further recognition includes awards from the Panorama Audiovisual (Brazil) jury and several Best of Show awards from TVBEurope and InstallationEurope. clean switching – like a legacy baseband matrix. Using generic high-capacity core processing blades, Virtual Modules can create any required functionality, enabling entire workflows to be remapped in minutes. Core processing blades retain physical connectivity to legacy SDI equipment through optional V__matrix I/O cards using Lawo’s VSM Broadcast Control and Monitoring system as the control layer.
V__remote4 is a bidirectional multichannel video/audio-to IP-interface for remote production, providing a one-box solution for all video and audio signal transport and processing in WAN-based remote productions. The ultra-compact rack unit includes everything from J2K video-over-IP coding to various monitoring and processing tools and allows parallel production-quality
encoding and decoding of four uncompressed, raw format video streams (SMPTE2022-6/-7 compliant) and four JPEG2000 video streams (VSF-TR01 compliant), as well as parallel encoding of four MJPEG and two H.264 video streams for monitoring applications. The device fully supports source-timed, frameaccurate switching of SMPTE2022-6 video, in combination with VSM control systems. Its robust J2K codec and SMPTE2022-7 compatible port redundancy ensure uncompromised signal availability and quality. V__pro8 is the ‘Swiss Army Knife’ of video processing, interconnecting signals in different video formats, as well as bridging between audio and video within a studio infrastructure via high-density audio connections (including MADI and RAVENNA/AES67). It features two-channel up/down/cross-format conversion, eightchannel colour correction, frame sync, separate video and audio delay on all channels, embedding/de-embedding with sample-rate conversion, 8x8 video matrix, 384x384 audio matrix, time-code insertion, test pattern generation, surround downmix stages, quad split multiviewer, plus additional tools. An HTML5 GUI ensures intuitive operation and monitoring. A DOLBY E encoding/ decoding option provides up to four en- or decoders for multichannel audio on a single AES3 connection with metadata handling. In combination with the unit’s Dolby E Auto Aligner, the V__pro 8 is the perfect transmission path gateway for multichannel productions.
Audio-to-iP interfAcing
Lawo’s A__line audio-to-IP rackmount interfaces for broadcast, live and install applications provide easy, reliable transport of analogue and digital audio using IP network environments. Based on RAVENNA technology, all devices are compatible with the AES67 audio-over-IP standard, and allow set-up of audio and video streams without deep IT knowledge.
A__mic 8 features eight Lawo-grade mic/ line inputs and four line outputs, A__digital 8 eight AES3 inputs and four AES3 outputs and A__madi4 four MADI interfaces. All units provide two RAVENNA/AES67 Ethernet ports and eight GPIOs. For largescale infrastructure installations Lawo also provides modular high-density audio-to-IP interfacing based on DALLIS I/O systems.

Lawo’s mc² series mixing consoles set new standards in audio broadcast, allowing operators to focus on work rather than equipment. Serving TV studio and mobile broadcast production, as well as live shows and events with a global TV audience, solutions are scalable and dependable.
The Lawo mc²36 is a flexible all-in-one mixing desk covering broadcast, theatre, house of worship, live and install applications. Along with Lawo-grade mic preamps, the mc²36 offers unprecedented value for money.
New to the mc² family, the mc²56XC comes in 32/48/64/80-fader versions with native RAVENNA/AES67 support and a Lawo HD core. It supports up to 888 fully configured DSP channels and up to 144 summing buses with an 8192x8192 mono-channel matrix. Operation uses an overbridge with superbright 21.5-inch HD touchscreens, buttonglow surface for colour-coding and enhanced user guidance.
The mc²56XT is the latest mc² desk, offering the audio and features of the mc²56, yet doubling the fader count within the same footprint. The mc²56XT can be configured with from 48 to 144 faders in a dual-fader layout. Natively equipped with RAVENNA/ AES67 technology, all mc² series consoles integrate seamlessly into future-proof IP infrastructures.
KICK 2.0 redefines audio production in live sports events played with a ball. Providing automated close-ball mixing of sports such as soccer, rugby and American football, KICK 2.0 ball tracking technology guarantees a consistent audio level without noticeable fades, with a mix that is 100% repeatable from match to match and remains highly accurate after 90 minutes of play. KICK 2.0 requires a standard host PC (Windows 7 or Windows 8) and an HTML5 capable browser for the user
interface. A Lawo mc² Micro Core engine is available for interfacing to third-party consoles via MADI and RAVENNA/AES67.
