HYBRID SOLUTIONS FOR SMOOTH WORKFLOW

The broadcast industry has been a dynamic space, constantly changing to meet rising needs and harnessing the latest technology to do so. Its current preoccupations are the cautious but inevitable adoption of IP infrastructures, as well as the constant pressure to production efficiencies across the workflow. Through the extensive industry experience of its staff and ongoing dialogue with customers, TSL Products remains committed to tackling these trends by developing practical, reliable and cost-effective solutions that work across an entire facility.

While the move to IP is becoming more attainable as the cost of off-the-shelf commodity IP switches and networking gear falls, the inability to agree on a complete set of standards is delaying this migration. As broadcasters seek answers about IP-ready and IP-capable equipment options and clarity about the new video/audio-over-IP standards, TSL Products have been designing hybrid solutions and platforms that facilitate a smooth, fluid transition, by supporting and integrating 3G and 12G-SDI for video and MADI for audio, right alongside video/audioover-IP capabilities.

Since it isn’t clear which of the standards will win out, TSL have chosen to support the leading standards. Its PAM-IP uncompressed video over IP audio monitors give customers a choice of connectivity, such as SMPTE 22026 and 2202-7 for uncompressed video over IP and Dante and Ravenna (AES67-based) protocols for audio over IP — in addition to SDI, MADI, AES-EBU and analogue signals.

Another important issue is that SDI offers a comprehensive set of tools, including systems

for control, monitoring, routing and other digital glue and infrastructure products. Since these capabilities make production, master control, quality assurance and broadcast much easier, TSL have been integrating IP protocols into their TallyMan control system so that broadcasters can leverage the same control and monitoring capabilities they have enjoyed in the SDI realm when they are working in a hybrid or all-IP workflow.

TSL Products continues to develop its MPA range of audio monitors, including the MPA1 Mix/Solo models both of which feature Dante integration. MIX is specifically designed for use where operators need to create a custom mix from a Dante stream or MADI input, while Solo has a simple, intuitive scroll to listen and is perfect for use in the OB environment or headend where a quick QC of audio is needed.

KEY COMMUNICATIONS ACROSS FACILITIES

Key to streamlining communications across facilities, TSL Products’ Intelligent Display System (IDS) offers a unique approach to digital signage and facility management. IDS is a genuine two-way system that receives information and through simple conditional programming, provide a sophisticated level of control. Not only does it display a wide range of information on a standard TV screen, it also allows users to interact with the system and control the environment around them via touch screen technology. The dynamic nature of IDS-connected screens mean they can be configured to suit any location and application at any given time and with the new Remora +, users can now display content on 4K screens, thanks to the high video processing capacity of the new processor. By automating many processes such as complex production timing, controlling lights, PTZ camera control and by linking IDS with TallyMan control, it also has the ability to work with third party equipment.

DATE CENTRE INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM

Data is a crucial part of life in the 21st century, and data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) systems have to keep up with the ever-increasing amount of data being created, searched, retrieved and archived. Fortunately, the hardware and software technology behind them is being developed constantly to improve reliability, increase automation and reduce power consumption. TSL Products’ InSite DCIM communicates with SNMP-enabled devices such as intelligent power distribution units, power metres, environmental sensors,

servers and routers, in order to track elements including power consumption, temperature, humidity, water ingress and much more. InSite provides monitoring, alarming, logging and reporting of all key parameters relevant to any facility, from broadcasters and data centres to hospitals and schools. Its userfriendly interface makes it easy to configure and operate, delivering the information to operators via fully customisable HTML5 based dashboards. For organisations that outsource IT maintenance, InSite enables external teams to diagnose and often solve an issue remotely, saving time and money on engineers driving back and forth. An alarm will trigger if a machine starts taking too much or too little power, or the environment temperature has exceeded limits. An engineer can then diagnose the issue remotely and immediately invoke back up plans to resolve the problem while the issue is fixed, without a break in service. Similarly TSL Products has developed a range of basic and intelligent power distribution units (PDUs) available in both horizontal and vertical configurations. All power management solutions from TSL Products offer fully configurable alarming, real-time measurement and on-board data logging. All this information is available either through the built-in webserver or via SNMP for alarming, monitoring and logging.

Whether solving communications challenges, enhancing broadcast control, ensuring audio quality or highlighting potential technical issues before they become problems, TSL Products works hard to remain a step ahead to ensure that its clients don’t fall behind.

TSL Products designs, manufactures and markets a range of hardware and software solutions that serve to simplify operations within the television broadcast, cable, satellite, IPTV and IT industries.

Specialising in audio monitoring, intelligent display systems, broadcast control systems, and power management tools, TSL Products’ solutions satisfy and exceed the commercial, technical and operational requirements that exist in IT-based and traditional workflows, helping its customers to lower costs, generate revenue and streamline operations.

TSL Products draws on over two decades of international systems integration experience to develop and deliver a range of top-quality, award-winning products that meet the needs of today’s broadcasters.
