award-winning technology. Forward-thinking solutions boast multiple industry awards for innovation, deployment and flexibility.
The transition to a more diversified pay TV market will continue in 2017 following some significant developments in the region. beIN Media Group has added entertainment content, OSN has struck new content deals with its studio partners, Netflix launched its set of services helping the over-the-top (OTT) video delivery momentum and 2016 marked the 14th IPTV service provider across 10 countries to offer video services.
Enhanced competition is prompting all service providers to better understand what consumers are willing to pay for and what the right business models are to deliver those services. It is also placing a bigger spotlight on the need for anti-piracy approaches. AT
Kearney has reported that out of 27 million households across MENA that have access to pay TV services, fewer than seven million are actually paying subscribers. Furthermore, among the non-subscribers, 52 percent cite the availability of free — possibly pirated — content as a reason not to pay.
Therefore, forensic video watermarking is becoming increasingly crucial to fight piracy. The advent of ultra HD (UHD) content offers greater scope for pirates to copy, even just by camcording and then redistribute over the internet. These threats are amplified by the parallel rise of OTT video, turning redistribution into the biggest threat to premium content revenues, taking over from control word sharing. beIN Sports, for example, is requiring watermarking in order to broadcast their premium sports content and other major operators in the region who want to deliver UHD content are also focused on meeting more stringent security requirements.
Verimatrix is the global leader in the practical application and commercialisation of video watermarking solutions – a component of VCAS Ultra and Verimatrix’s revenue security approach. In fact, Verimatrix is the only company to offer fully integrated encryption, key management and watermarking solutions for both managed and unmanaged networks.

VIDEOMARK
Verimatrix VideoMark technology offers a set of tools that can be used to address the market needs of video watermarking for forensic tracking and live events. The patented VideoMark technology is designed to embed watermarks in client devices. This approach is proven to be a more scalable approach compared to server-side watermarking. While VideoMark only uses a fraction of the device processing power at the device level, it does not require any preprocessing of the video content or specific integration with the headend.
VideoMark is an integrated component of VCAS Ultra and a required component of the ultra-security profile for UHD service delivery. The tight integration with VCAS makes it ideal to support premium 4K/UHD services and early release window content marking and tracking. With VideoMark,

operators are not only able to protect their premium content, but also able to trace content that has been illegally redistributed to its source.
