RELIABLE SOLUTIONS ACROSS THE GLOBE
One of the fastest growing satellite operators in the world, ABS operates a global fleet of satellites including the latest ABS-2A at 75°E. ABS provides capacity to support video and television distribution, cellular backhaul, broadband trunking and maritime connectivity. Its extensive teleport network provides comprehensive coverage to 93% of the world’s population. Coverage includes Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Russia/CIS and the Americas.
ABS recently completed its satellite build investment of approximately $750M in launching three new satellites – ABS-2 in 2014, ABS-3A in 2015 and ABS-2A in 2016. The latter two launches heralded the era of highly capital efficient all-electric satellites.
ABS-3A at 3°W is a new pillar for high profile broadcast contribution for Europe, MENA, Africa and the Americas. It has opened up opportunities to support European service providers and to challenge established operators who have historically dominated the European market. Its wide European and pan-African C-band coverage in a single beam provides huge opportunities for European service providers who wish to leverage their European teleports. Verticals such as VSAT, video contribution and video distribution are among some of the applications that are being used on the wide MENA Kubeam covering the whole of the Middle East. Similarly the Ku-band wide beams of Europe and Africa have extended new possibilities for video distribution across Europe and pan Africa.
ABS-2A, which entered commercial service earlier this year, is the latest highcapacity satellite. It provides expansion capacity and continuity of satellite services at ABS’ prime gateway over the Indian Ocean region. It is co-located with ABS-2 at the premium DTH neighbourhood at 75°E and is optimised for video services for the growing CATV and DTH business.
