Introduction
INTRODUCTION With pride I present you our 2nd Rapido Pride Magazine, fully dedicated to the 15th edition of the Amsterdam Pride. Who could have imagined that the first Amsterdam Canal Pride in 1996 has developed into a major worldwide event that draws crowds from all around the globe and offers non stop entertainment during the hottest weekend of the year with sports, culture and unforgettable parties. The slogan of the 2010 Pride is : “Celebrate”. After 15 years we are more proud to be gay than ever and that will not go unnoticed in Amsterdam. One of the absolute highlights is without doubt the 6th Rapido Pride party on Sunday August 8 in Paradiso with spectacular dj’s, dance performances and the world release of Inaya Day’s version of ‘’Rapido’’. But there is so much more to offer! On Friday we kick of with ‘’The Masterbeat World Tour’’ in the Melkweg where dj’s Brett Henrichsen and Herbert Tonn will be the center of a world of light and visual effects and set the scene for the rest of the weekend. On Saturday Tony Moran will shine in Amsterdam’s newest club ‘’Air’’, Rapido has secured the exclusive use of this amazing venue for our Pride Celebration. Come and witness a sound sensation you have never experienced before.

On Sunday we offer you Rapido in Paradiso and simultaneously the Pride version of our ‘’Cowboys ‘N Angels’’ Tea-dance. Rapido tickets ran out so quickly this year that we have created this very special event with star DJ Herbert Tonn from ‘’The Week’’ in Sao Paolo, Latin America’s most celebrated club venue. I am very proud to host this world renowned Brazilian experience which will be the talk of the town! I am looking forward to welcome you to our parties and to close this special weekend with you on Monday morning in the ‘’Wester Unie’’ where the unique industrial atmosphere will be the perfect ambience for the new Rapido After Experience which will include the launch of Pagano’s forthcoming new digital compilation ‘’Music for the Podcast Generation’’ and a special appearance from London’s Stewart Who? Other things to do
Other interesting things to do during Pride. Amsterdam Pride has built its reputation on great parties and the world famous Canal Parade, but there are many other interesting things to do during this special weekend. Many well known establishments are organizing special events during Amsterdam Pride. Here are some of the highlights. Cake Carrousel with delicious cakes served by the funniest and most adorable cake girls. Try a piece – or more – of one of the many mouthwatering cakes. All revenues will go to the Aids Foundation. The Cake Carrousel can be found at the Westermarkt, close to the Gay Monument and the Anne Frank House on Friday August 6 and Sunday August 8 from 6 pm to 10 pm. Pride Tennis Toss Smashing Pink has it’s 10th edition in Sport Center Amstel Park close to the Amsterdam Forest. Tournaments will take place on Friday August 6 from 4 pm to 9 pm and entrance is free to everyone. Will give you also a chance to explore the beauty of Amsterdam ‘outdoors’. Rugby is one of the most masculine sports performed by great hunks. The perfect chance to get acquainted with them is at the rugby clinic of The Amsterdam Lowlanders, the gay rugby club of Amsterdam. Getting the hang of it? Who knows, you might perform at the Union Cup 2011, the bi annual European gay rugby tournament. Come, watch and enjoy on Friday August 6 in the Westerpark from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

Cinema Rialto is organizing the 4th edition of it’s Gay & Lesbian Summer Tour, which started on June 18 and continue until August 5. On closing day August 5 the most popular gay & lesbian films of the summer tour will be shown again from 5 pm to 9.30 pm at Rialto, Ceintuurbaan 338. Move quickly to the Nieuwmarkt on the same evening where the open air cinema will offer free performances of short African Pride & European Pride movies. The evening starts at 09.30 pm and ends with a large gay blockbuster. No Gay Pride is complete without a visit to the Canal Parade on Saturday. Share the space with ‘’Tout Amsterdam’’ and cheer at the glamorous boats in an amazing atmosphere. Start is at 2pm at Westerdok and following Prinsengracht towards Amstel and Oosterdok. Make sure to secure a good spot early as huge crowds are expected. Fancy street activities. Various outdoor street parties are organized during the weekend near Amstel, Zeedijk, Rembrandtplein, Reguliersdwarsstraat and Stopera and the Gay Monument/Westermarket area.
