Many great movies didn’t get any chance to be seen in the cinema because of Covid-19. This is why It was hard for most of us to keep up with the best movies of last year and the beginning of this year. But we are going to discuss some of the best movies that are honored and awarded by the Oscars.

Let’s start by saying that this movie won 3 Oscar Awards this year. The first one went for Chloe Zhao for Best Director and she is the second female director to get this award. The second one for Frances Mcdormand for Best Actress and her stunning performance and the main event is that Nomadland got an Oscar for Best Picture. The movie is based on a book and talking about Fern who lost everything and kept going around and live per-day surviving and battling for her life.

The Father

It was nominated for 6 Oscar awards but got 2 awards. This movie got Best Adapted Screenplay award which means that this movie or materials already exist but they have adapted it in a new way. Also got the Best Actor in a leading role for Anthony Hopkins, while the battle was powerful he managed to get it. Basically the movie talks about the father who got Alzheimer and how he see’s things.

Sound of Metal

A movie that got 2 Oscar Awards for Best Sound and Best Film Editing. This movie is about a guy who play drums in a band, and because it’s a noisy industry he get deaf. Here is where his journey in life begins, while he wants to continue his career and get back with his love. Staring Riz Ahmed as Ruben and Olivia Cooke as his girlfriend and his partner in the band Lou.

Soul

This movie is the only animation movie in the list. Since it talks about a musician, they were able to get 2 Oscar award for Best Original Score and the Best Animated Feature Film. Basically it’s an animation that you don’t want to miss. It talks about the purpose of life and how to find it although you might think that something is your purpose, in the end it could be something else. The movie is produced by “Pixar” which is the most famous animation studio.

Tenet

I personally didn’t like the story of this movie because it has a lot of twists and it’s not easy to understand. But this movie won the Best Visual Effects Award. It’s not a secret that Christoper Nolan is a genius when it comes to directing. So it’s a well deserved award for the process and the results seen in the movie.

Minari

A different drama about a Korean-American man who searches for a better living for him and his family in Arkansas State. Discussing many aspects of life like love and money. This Movie got an Oscar Award for Best Supporting Actress for Youn Yuh Jung and it was pleasing to see non-Americas actresses get an Oscar Award.

Judas and the Black Messiah

One of the realistic stories about the president of the Black Panther “Fred Hampton” starring Daniel Kaluuya. He won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar Award. It’s a great movie to see and well written and played with a lot of violence and true realistic events.
