• At the conclusion of the fall 2019 sport seasons, Cal Poly Pomona was ranked #11 nationally for athletic success (approximately 308 Division II institutions), and was the top CCAA institution in the standings out of the 13 conference schools.

• Women’s and Men’s Basketball both advanced to the NCAA West Regional – one of only two institutions in the West Region (other being UCSD) that had both basketball teams qualify. • CCAA 2nd place finishes were achieved by: 1) Men’s Soccer; 2) Men’s Basketball; and 3) Women’s Basketball. • Jay Mason, Women’s Soccer, and his coaching staff of Katie Smith and Dan Richards, were named the 2019 NCAA West Region Coaching Staff of the Year, and, Coach Mason was named 2019 CCAA Coach of the Year (the first for a CPP women’s soccer coach since 1999). • Jimmie Villalobos of Men’s Soccer was voted as the CCAA Offensive Player of the Year and the D2 CCA West Region Player of the Year.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS • Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night – On Thursday, February 13, honored 20 university faculty/staff during home basketball games. • Celebration of Champions (Hall of Fame) – On Saturday, February 29, hosted our bi-annual Broncos Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame and honored 4 new individuals into the Hall of Fame and also “re-recognized” 10 current Hall of Fame members who joined us for the celebration at Kellogg West and unveiling in Kellogg Arena. • Student-athletes made twenty pet beds out of donated materials and donated them to the Inland Valley Humane Society. • Student-athletes visited a local middle school and talked to 7th and 8th graders about college and college athletics. They also played sport specific games with them. • Created Beyond Athletics invited the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center to talk to our student-athletes about job search tips and resume workshop. Also invited the counseling center to present Transitioning Out of College. • Participated in the CCAA Food Drive and donated our donations to the Poly Pantry. Collected over 800 food items. • Created an Inclusion and Diversity Social Media Campaign. • Invited E&J Gallo to speak to the group about internship opportunities.
FACILITY IMPROVEMENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS • Developed and implemented Phase 2 Scolinos Field (Baseball) improvements – new backstop, safety netting system, artificial field turf branded halo, and internal fencing (Completed Summer 2019). • Installed a new Tifway 419 Bermuda natural grass baseball-specific playing surface (Summer 2019). • Installed a new Bandara Bermuda natural grass soccer-specific playing surface (Summer 2019). • Web streamed all home games with a three-camera “wireless” broadcast with closed-captioning and support from Information Technology for equipment purchase – which led to additional student employment opportunities at home athletic contests.
