Nestled in South Africa’s home to wildlife, the Kruger National Park is known for its outstanding wildlife, unrivalled diversity of life forms, and historical and archaeological sights. The juxtaposition of integrating the modernity of Mercure brand identity into the traditional African safari aesthetic to create the memorable Mercure safari edition. The space honours the local’s food and drinks by breaking away the barriers between the guests, locals and staff to share life’s pleasures and learn amazing skills including weaving, cooking, foraging and nature awareness to conserve wildlife. Mercure safari edition celebrates authentic design by focusing on every detail of the hotel to respect its surroundings by telling a story about the African bush and its locals’ cultural heritage through scenes, sights, sounds, smells, and tastes. Mercure safari edition carefully considers locally sourced recyclable and durable materials, low water consumption fittings and uses design to lower the building’s energy usage by harvesting the sites’ natural daylight and ventilation. The interior design is adaptable and flexible while carefully considered palettes, soft textures, generous upholstery, collapsible and mobile furniture & intelligent lighting systems are used to create flexible multisensory, lively, and welcoming spaces.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN INTERIOR DESIGN AWARDS FOR 2023 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: BLT Built Design Awards – International Salvia Medical Center Salvia Medical Center was designed to offer solace amid the challenges of the 2020-2021 COVID-19 pandemic. Healthcare workers and patients alike experienced anxiety, exhaustion, and post-traumatic stress during this period. To combat this, the clinic aimed to create a safe and welcoming environment. Private examination rooms and collaborative spaces struck a balance between safety and social interaction.
Biophilic design principles inspired the incorporation of natural elements, including colors and materials reminiscent of the salvia plant's health benefits. A soothing palette of pale greens akin to sage promotes tranquility. Earthy curves and timber slats add a natural touch. Blues accentuated wayfinding and staff areas, while patient examination rooms featured vibrant South African wallpaper, mirroring salvia's seasonal flowering hues, providing visual variety.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN INTERIOR DESIGN AWARDS FOR 2023 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: BLT Built Design Awards – International Coastal Primary Care Clinic Take the floorplan provided and come up with a new name, concept, space plan and design for a new Primary Care Clinic. No changes may be made to the exterior walls, columns and windows. The concept behind the design, logo and name of Coastal Primary Care Clinic was inspired by the well-known coast found in the Western-Cape. The Western-Cape is widely known for its coast and famous beaches set up all around, where the locals as well as tourists go to relax during the summer or even during winter. To South African’s as well as to people from all over the world, the ocean is a powerful symbol. It is a symbol of calmness, hope and life. The entire space is linked together with the concept and the colour scheme seen throughout all the rooms, the finishes, the elements of the ocean and the passage that connects everything together to ensure a space that is calm, peaceful and full of hope. ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN INTERIOR DESIGN AWARDS FOR 2023 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: BLT Built Design Awards – International Good Hope Primary Care Clinic My proposal for the renovation of the clinic focuses on creating a welcoming environment for patients. Visiting a doctor when feeling ill can bring stress to a patient. Through my design choices, I aimed to put the patient at ease, while creating a pleasant workplace for the staff. As part of my design language, I introduced curved edges and designs. In plan, these curved edges bring a soft fluidity to the walls and joinery and provide a safety measure from sharp corners to those who may be unsteady on their feet. In elevation, the windows along the passage in a pill shape break up the monotony of the long passage while providing access to daylight from the exam rooms.
The Cape Peninsula is known as the Cape of Good Hope. To contextualize the space in the Western Cape, I wanted to draw from our landscape having both mountains and oceans. I used blues, greens, and golden yellows and combined this with timber accents to add a natural warmth to the interiors.
