TITLE: THE INFLUENCE OF BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ON THE OPERATIONAL CAPABILITIES OF ORGANISATIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Dignity Paradza investigated the influence of Business Intelligence (BI) on the operational capabilities of South African (SA) enterprises. The qualitative study employed a conceptual framework comprising concepts from the Resource-Based View (RBV), Dynamic Capabilities (DC) theory, and the Technology-OrganisationEnvironment (TOE) framework. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group sessions involving three SA organisations, using a multiple case study strategy. The findings unveiled BI human resource capital, BI infrastructure, BI management, investment in advanced analytics, and management support as crucial for achieving business value (BV). The study provides an understanding of the relationship between BI adoption and BV in the context of the operational capabilities of organisations. It also reveals the practical implications for BI adoption and implementation in South African organisations.

TITLE: RELATIONSHIP BUYING: A NEW PARADIGM IN BUSINESS-TOBUSINESS MARKETING
The study developed a set of criteria that South African organisations can use to select and appoint appropriate vendors to procure need-satisfying inputs such as products and services. There are numerous generic vendor selection criteria that organisations use to procure need-satisfying inputs, but there is scant research on the impact of South African legislation, regulation, and procurement strategy on the vendor selection process. This study revealed that organisations need to forge longterm and mutually-rewarding ‘partnerships’ with their suppliers, focus on the treble bottom line, work within the confines of South African legislation such as BEE, AA and EE, and be ethical in their undertakings with supply chain partners to succeed in an ever-changing business world. The new supplier preference model (developed by this study) will be of benefit to all organisations and their suppliers.

TITLE: A STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION FRAMEWORK TO MANAGE THE EFFECT OF USER GENERATED CONTENT ON CONSUMER-BASED BRAND EQUITY OF MAJOR RETAILERS IN THE CAPE METROPOLE
The study developed a strategic communications framework that could assist retail brands in dealing with the influence of both negative and positive user-generated content (UGC) on consumer-based brand equity. The prevalence of the increased volumes of online content, categorised as UGC, is damaging for the reputation of retail brands, which formed the background of this study. A strategic communication framework (UG-5C model) was conceptualised which could assist major retail brands in dealing with the influence of UGC on consumer-based brand equity. The UG-5C model consists of five components, viz. customisation, community, consciousness, creation, and content. If supported by the propagation of positive user-generated content, this model could significantly reduce the damaging viral effects of particularly negative UGC on brand equity.

TITLE: A FRAMEWORK FOR A GENERIC RETAIL CHARTER IN SOUTH AFRICA
The study developed a framework for a generic retail charter as a guide for retail businesses in South Africa to align business operations with the expectations of their stakeholders. This study was conducted against the background that managers of retail businesses have a difficult and complex task without comprehensive formal guidance to manage their businesses successfully. This study used a Design Science Research model to design a framework for a generic retail charter that could be used as a guide for South African retail businesses and retail industry associations. The framework could also be used to develop customised retail charters with the purpose of gaining support and satisfying the expectations of relevant stakeholders.
