Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in the Applied Microbial and Health Biotechnology Institute (AMHBI) at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
Project Focus: AMHBI at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology is seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow. The fellow will be part of a project that involves elucidating the bioactivities of Rooibos herbal tea with specific focus on ergogenic aid and cardiovascular health. The project aims to develop and disseminate high-level knowledge on the health promoting properties of Rooibos.
Location: AMHBI laboratories, CPUT Bellville Campus, Symphony Way, Bellville, 7530 CPUT.
Responsibilities:
• Achieving research publications in accredited journals – A minimum of two (2) research output units for the Institution (accepted or published)
• Involvement in at least two (2) research projects (on-going or newly acquired) with focus on rooibos
• Assist in the writing of at least 1 (one) research funding proposal
• Initiate and seek funding for project.
• Assist with postgraduate supervision
• Disseminate research findings through conference presentation
• Perform any other tasks as may be instructed by the host
Requirements:
• A recently completed PhD in a relevant field of science such as biomedical sciences within the past 5 years
• Must not be or plan to be the recipient of more than one postdoctoral bursary at any given time,
• Strong research background focusing on bioactivity of rooibos
• Extensive experience in use of in vitro and in vivo models on oxidative stress and disease development and/or health promotion
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Prior experience in publishing academic research is preferred
• Digital and technological competencies.
• Adhere to all the Cape Peninsula University of Technology ’s policies, rules and procedures for postdoctoral research fellows and codes of conduct and rules governing research and intellectual property
Recommendations:
• Knowledge of oxidative stress induced in the sport environment
• Ability to perform various clinical chemistry analyses
• Experience in using and applying various molecular techniques.
• Experience in conducting human intervention studies
