Position Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)
Project Focus: The Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology is seeking to hire a postdoctoral fellow. The fellow will be part of a project that involves power system optimization, integrated energy systems, development of novel optimization algorithm for microgrid energy management The project aims to contribute to the global effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable development.
Location: Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Engineering, CPUT Bellville Campus, Symphony Way, Bellville, 7530 CPUT.
Responsibilities:
• Achieving research publications in accredited journals – A minimum of two (2) research output units for the Institution (accepted or published)
• Involvement in at least two (2) research projects (on-going or newly acquired) with focus on the use of novel optimization algorithms in the optimal design and management of microgrids and other related power system optimization problems.
• Assist in the writing of at least 1 (one) research funding proposal
• Initiate and seek funding for project.
• Assist with postgraduate supervision
• Disseminate research findings through conference presentation
• Perform any other tasks as may be instructed by the host
Requirements:
• A recently completed PhD in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering within the past 5 years
• Must have published at least (2) journal/conference papers during his/her doctorate degree programme
• must not be or plan to be the recipient of more than one post doctorate bursary at any given time,
• Strong research background focusing on integration of renewable energy resources in the power generation mix using existing optimization algorithms and the development of novel optimization algorithm.
• Extensive experience in the use of MATLAB simulation software tool
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Prior experience in publishing academic research is preferred
• Digital and technological competencies
• Adhere to all the Cape Peninsula University of Technology ’s policies, rules and procedures for postdoctoral research fellows and codes of conduct and rules governing research and intellectual property
Recommendations:
• Ability to interpret complex engineering concept into easy and comprehendible form using data analysis techniques
• Experience in the use of novel optimization algorithms for power system optimization
• Experience in conducting research on the design of hybrid renewable energy system
