2018 VISION AWARD HONOREE: ANNE WILKES TUCKER Each year, the Center for Photography at Woodstock recognizes an outstanding figure in the photography community with the Vision Award. Established in 2004, past honorees have included Dr. Deborah Willis, Nathan Lyons, Vince Aletti, Kathy Ryan, Sandra S. Phillips, Willis E. Hartshorn, Fred Baldwin & Wendy Watriss, the photo agency VII, W.M. Hunt, Lilo Raymond, Neil C. Trager, Kenro Izu, Howard Greenberg, John Dugdale, and Colleen & Kathleen Kenyon. CPW is pleased to recognize Anne Wilkes Tucker with the 2018 Vision Award for her outstanding dedication and service to the field as an curator, writer and advocate. Curator emerita of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Anne is one of the most celebrated curators in the field and has shaped the careers of countless artists. She has created appreciation and understanding of the photographic arts through seminal exhibitions, such as WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY, has written over 130 books and exhibition catalogues, and contributed to countless magazines. Anne created a legacy by expanding a modest photography collection of 150 photographs to over 30,000 images. Join us as we celebrate her extraordinary career and continued contributions to the field.

Celebrating Anne Wilkes Tucker Anne Wilkes Tucker is the curator emerita of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, having, in 1976, become founding curator of the photography department for which she acquired over 30,000 photographs made on all seven continents. She curated or co-curated over 40 exhibitions, most with accompanying catalogues, including surveys on the Czech Avant-garde, a history of Japanese photography, and a history of war photography as well as exhibitions with catalogues on works of Robert Frank, Brassai, Catherine Wagner, Joel Sternfeld, Richard Misrach, Ray Metzker, Louis Faurer, George Krause, and Chen Changfan. She has also contributed articles to over 150 magazines, books and other catalogues and has lectured throughout the North and South America, Europe and Asia. Her honors, fellowships, and awards include being selected as “American’s Best Curator” by Time Magazine in 2001 in an issue devoted to America’s Best as well as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College’s, Alumnae Achievement Award in 1993. She has been a trustee of FotoFest since 1990 and the Philip and Edith Leonian Foundation since 2016 and served as a trustee of Randolph College between 2008 – 2018. Robert Morris, architect and painter, has been her partner for 15 years. She is joyful guardian for her brother’s middle son, Alexander Tucker. While continuing to work in retirement (friends have pronounced her a failure at retirement), she is an active gardener, Astros fan, movie buff, and reader.

2018 AUCTIONEER: LUCAS HUNT Lucas Hunt is the president of HUNT Auctioneers and a celebrated American poet, who was born and raised in rural Iowa. He graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering, has a Benefit Auctioneer Specialist (BAS) designation from the National Auctioneer’s Association, and plays an auctioneer on stage, television and voiceovers. He has published work in The New York Times, and won a John Steinbeck Award. He lives in New York. His auctioneering career began seven years ago, when the president of a charitable organization thought his natural generosity, outgoing nature, and excellent public speaking abilities would make him the perfect person to oversee a black-tie fundraising event, including a high-stakes live auction. As auctioneer, Lucas Hunt shattered all previous fund-raising records and far exceeded the expectations of the board of trustees. Word quickly spread through the Hamptons and New York area, and he was flooded with requests by top-tier organizations for his abilities and outstanding professionalism. In 2016, he founded HUNT Auctioneers, who continue to exceed the expectations of clients, in how they are able to command generous financial commitments from persons in attendance—and their unique ability to put the room at ease by creating an exciting atmosphere of friendliness and good-will.

Thank you for your support of the Center for Photography at Woodstock, whether you are attending our annual benefit event on September 29, 2018 in person or are placing an absentee bid. Please take a moment to read the conditions of sale below that will assist you in par ticipating in CPW’s 40th Annual Benefit Auction. The auctioneer will accept bids from bidders present at the Auction who raise their paddles to signify bidding interest and from absentee bidders who make bids with CPW in advance of the Auction. The highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer will be the purchaser ; in the event of any dispute between bidders, the auctioneer will have final discretion. The auctioneer may act either by placing consecutive bids up to the amount of the reserve, open bidding at the reserve, enter bids in response to salesroom and order bids. CPW staff, board members, and volunteers may bid at the Auction for themselves, and/or they may execute bids for absentee buyers. If the auctioneer decides that any opening bid is below the value of the ar ticle offered, s/he may reject the bid and withdraw the article from sale. CPW will record the name or paddle number of the successful bidder upon the fall of the hammer. Each lot is sold “as is” and all purchases are final. CPW does not make any expression or implied warranty or representation as to the condition of any lot offered for sale, and no statement made at any time, whether oral or written, shall constitute such a warranty or representation. Descriptions of condition are not warranties. The descriptions of the conditions of ar ticles in this catalogue, including all references to damage or repairs, are provided as a service to interested persons. Accordingly, all lots should be viewed personally by prospective buyers or an authorized representative to evaluate the condition of the property offered for sale. Unless a lot is identified as part of a limited edition, no edition limit should be assumed. Unless a lot is identified as having been printed in a certain year, no date of printing can be warranted. All prints are shipped unframed, unless noted otherwise. Payment is due at the evening of sale unless otherwise agreed with CPW staff. Absentee Bidding CPW’s auction will be posted online at www.artsy.net/cpw-benefit and viewers will be able to place absentee bids electronically. The service is secure and no charges will be placed to your credit card until you have be notified of your successful bids. We encourage you to use this service. You may access it by visiting www.ar tsy.net or by downloading the Artsy app to your phone. Ar tsy bidding for the live and silent auction will begin at 12:00pm EST, Friday, September 14, 2018. The silent auction will close online and on the Ar tsy app at 8:00pm EST, September 29. The live auction will close online and on the Artsy app at 2:00pm EST, September 29. Live auction proxy bids will be placed by an Ar tsy representative during the live auction at the event. Interested persons attending the event or planning to place bids long distance are encouraged to register through Artsy.net or by downloading their app, Artsy: Buy & Sell Original Art. All rules per taining to online absentee bidding remain the same as for absentee bids submitted via mail or via telephone.
