Our Story Craft Boat is a multi disciplinary design cum manufacturing space. Based in Jaipur, India our roots are tied to the multitude of art and design this city harbours. Working extensively with Recycled Paper & Natural Fibre Textile, we organically connect these endevours with traditional Indian craftsmanship. Since our founding in 2015, Craft Boat has made an intentional effort to embrace all things handmade, sustainable, and analog. Collaborating with artisan businesses from all around the world, we hope to make space for kinder choices to exist and ﬂourish, creating a sense of harmony and ﬂexibility that radiates well beyond our studio walls.

As we come out of this long phase of pandemic, which made us pause and rethink our actions, we found a new pace in the process of creating and making at our studio. Getting out of bed, making breakfast, going to get groceries, a lot of these mundane tasks became a challenge admist our reality. How is anyone supposed to do anything? But, with every change of season, we hoped for better days ahead. We collected our thoughts to create, to stitch, to draw, to paint, to dance, to walk, to only come back to a good home & gentler life. Our collection is nurtured by a group of hopeful designers and artisans, from India.

Kantha Hand Quilting An age old stitching technique that originated with the idea of recycling old textiles by making layers of fabric and stitching them in different patterns and using them to hold the layers

Natural Dyeing The method of extracting dyes from natural sources to color papers and textiles - it’s one of the oldest craft of India. For this collection we’ve worked extensively with Indian Madder and Himalayan Rhubarb. About Indian Madder: A plant from the coffee family, this plant is the oldest known source of natural dye. About Himalayan Rhubarb: A medicinal herb,

this plant is found in the Himalayan range and the roots of the plant give the deep golden yellow dye.

Handmade Paper Making It’s a handcrafting process of making paper using recycled cotton textile waste generate from garment industries. The paper is further used to create objects for home, ofﬁce, packaging, gift wrapping and everyday stationery.

Hand Marbling It’s a unique art of creating beautiful abstract ﬂow of lines and colors on a tray of water with oil paints. These patterns are then transferred on a sheet of handmade paper. We picked the shades of Lilac, Dusty Red and Ochre Yellow from the Saffron Valley and various tools were used to translate the patterns on the tray of colors.

Process & Material In this collection we have used a variety of craft techniques from papermaking, kantha stitching, hand block printing, natural dyeing, screen printing, and more. All these skills are brought together by artisans and designers who want to usher in gentler lifestyles. Process is at the heart of everything. For us, this is the stage of production where most of our creativity and regenerative design process can be honoured. Here, we expand our craft techniques and the skills to ensure the process is circular and regerenative.

Using waste materials was a very organic approach to our design process from the begining. This circular appraoch makes us adaptable and ﬂuid to changes in design and technique as new materials are generated as waste. With every production we aim to close the loop and minimise waste generation by imagining shift of form. We develop products of high quality that are timeless and analog. And so, the materials we use are uncompromising on durability.
