introduction The CCBC Made by Hand is a commissioned work and rental program operated by the Craft Council of BC. We partner with our members (local, contemporary artists) to offer you a curated selection of artworks, and commissioned work for your projects. We also offer a free consultation to ensure that the works fit your vision. As a charitable arts service organization, CCBC aims to connect businesses to artists for the benefit of both. For our clients, the CCBC Made by Hand Program offers you the possibility to rent or commission artworks that stand out from the humdrum of mass produced merchandise, and helps support local artists. For participating artists, the program provides an additional avenue to generate revenue, as well as gain some incredible exposure. This brochure contains just a few examples of what is available from our members. The CCBC Shop & Gallery is a great place to visit if you would like additional inspiration for your order.

Ceramic Earthy and tactile, clay can take many forms. From being thrown on the wheel, slab-built or slip-cast, the sky is the limit with its ability to be transformed into sculptures, gifts, and home accessories. Silky-smooth porcelain, grainy earthenware, and all the textures in between… top it off with the perfect coloured glaze and you have something truly unique.

Fibre Intricate details created by handstitched or machine-sewn embroidery techniques, fibre manipulation, loom weaving, and hand-dyed yarns can make way for the creation of spectacular pieces. Products can be as varied as wearable items, small gifts, sculpture, and wall art - all uniquely tailored to your specifications.

glass Commonly thought of for its optical properties, glass offers great possibilities for design. It is a popular choice for awards as the material often allows the option of custom engraving and etching. Gifts and sculptural pieces can make use of the vast colour options available in this material, in both opaques and translucents, or simply let the material and form speak for themselves by opting for a clear finish.

metal work Glowing red metal from the heat of the torch, sparkling gemstones as they capture the light, a mirror-like shine or velvety-satin finish. These are some of the elements of forging metals that capture the heart of the maker. Materials in this category prompt endless possibilities for design. Casting processes lend themselves to larger, batch production, and one-off creations result in absolute showstoppers. Options include large-scale, functional objects, and sculptural pieces.

wood Its warmth is undeniable, with those rich tones of maple, cedar, cherry, and arbutus (to name only a few), it’s no wonder why wooden heirlooms are passed down through generations. Timeless pieces are crafted using age-old techniques, and many woods used by our artists have been locally sourced, without the need for additional logging.
