A recently published itinerary of a two month period that included Italy, London, France, Mexico, Iceland, Australia, Los Angeles, New York and Maine should give you a pretty good idea of how restless Dion Agius is. Never one to move around without a surfboard and a wide and rare of collection of 35mm and medium format cameras, Dion has become surfing’s most entrepreneurial and artistic star. Most recently Dion produced a one-of-akind short film in Dubai that was shot in what is considered to be the world’s best wave pool, conceptualizing, planning and starring in the project himself, Electric Blue Heaven went on to reach over 700k views and garnered a variety of magazine covers and editorial. Dion is always one step ahead of the pack in everything he does. Wasson’s meteoric 15-year modeling career continues aflame she was the face of the fall campaigns for Esprit and is starring in One Teaspoon’s first global campaign but she’s increasingly known as a design talent, as well. Her jewelry line, Low Luv, is sold in more than 200 stores around the world, including Opening Ceremony and Satine in Los Angeles, where she has lived since 2003. She collaborated on clothing for several seasons with RVCA, the Costa Mesa-based surf/skate clothing company. Then she went luxe, presenting a capsule collection with French label Zadig & Voltaire. “The sky was the limit, says Wasson.

Ask any skateboarder about Dylan Rieder and you’ll receive either a look of disgust, or look down and note their jeans are cuffed way above the ankle. Indeed, Rieder’s career and personality are some of the more polarizing topics in skateboarding today. Ever since his barrage of coverage in 2010 and 2011, the most notable of which come in the form of an Epicly Later’d series and a ‘short film’ by Gravis, Rieder has been the subject of both heavy criticism (‘he’s the worst kind of hipster’) and high praise (‘he’s the second coming of Heath Kirchart!’). Regardless of one’s stance, ultimately, the skateboarding community has its eyes firmly affixed on the 24-yearold professional. For its 10th anniversary, Desillusion Magazine released a six-part series in which they honor the people they find most inspiring in skateboarding, surf and fashion. Considering that Rieder has been in the spotlight for such a long time, it is often overlooked that the pressures of being a “professional athlete” in an era where ‘marketing’ is synonymous with ‘branding everywhere’ would be stifling for most people. Resenting this parallels with the resentment of authority and confinement that attracts many people to skating in the first place. Rieder hints at this and more in the interview as he explores the meaning of professionalism, and like everything else, does it in his own unique way. amien Hirst retrospective in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples on a dull, rainy day in late autumn of 2004. The light was grey. The pieces were installed in a sequence of severe galleries along the open courtyard, and the Wtour ended in a high stately hall with – memorably – the huge sculpture ‘Hymn’, a perplexing, painted-bronze male torso, partly exposed to show the organs inside. The work’s impressive position presented it, colossal and commanding, like an ancient god in the apse of a temple. Its colours, the gaudy hues used in Victorian decoration, made the quaint realism of ‘Hymn’ discreetly artificial. I also remember the rigour of that installation, and how well it worked with the austere architecture of the granite building. Here, I began to see the art of Damien Hirst in a new light. Many of his gallery shows presented, as would be expected, works that were recently made, and similar in vein, and the result was surprising and often spectacular. But the retrospective exhibition revealed his works as they had settled in time. Seeing a selection of pieces from different periods displayed together, I began to notice, more than before, the strong symphonic unity that binds them.Together they made, strangely maybe, a much less spectacular impression than when they first appeared. To me, they seemed content, thoughtful and gratified. In a poem about what men require from women (and vice versa), William Blake suggested: the lineaments.

Zenica

Kozara “The Kozara is a modern take on an old classic. Taking inspiration from the tea shades of the 1960s. The traditional round shape has been a favourite for many over the last century, from Harold Lloyd and Sigmund Freud, to Ozzy Osbourne and John Lennon. With a reinforced stainless steel and alpaca frame, the Kozara also combines an extruded cellulose acetate upper brow and temple tips to create an extremely unique and highly wearable shape that is guaranteed to turn heads.” -Dion Agius

Ram Blood The word “deer” was originally broader in meaning, but became more specific over time. In Middle English der (Old English dēor) meant a wild animal of any kind. This was as opposed to cattle, which then meant any sort of domestic livestock that was easy to collect and remove from the land, from the idea of personalproperty ownership (rather than real estate property) and related to modern chattel (property) and capital.[1] Cognates of Old English dēor in other dead Germanic languages have the general sense of “animal”, such as Old High German tior, Old Norse djur or dȳr, Gothic dius, Old Saxon dier, and Old Frisian diar. Deer are widely distributed, with indigenous representatives in all continents except Antarctica and Australia, though Africa has only one native species, the red deer, confined to the Atlas Mountains in the northwest of the continent. However, fallow deer have been introduced to South Africa.

Death Racer A sport race is the a competition of speed, against an objective criterion, usually a clock or to a specific point. The competitors in a race try to complete a given task in the shortest amount of time. Typically this involves traversing some distance, but it can be any other task involving speed to reach a specific goal. A race may be run continuously from start to finish or may be made of several segments called heats, stages or legs. A heat is usually run over the same course at different times. A stage is a shorter section of a much longer course or a time trial. Early records of races are evident on pottery from ancient Greece, which depicted running men vying for first place. 17

Dane Reynolds’ entry into this year’s Hurley Pro atTrestles was the most interesting thing to happen since, like, John John’s oop in Bali. In the semis of Hurley’s video trials, Dane faced comparatively unknown Cam Richards. Cam leveraged social media. Dane activated Instagram and entered the fray. All of a sudden, it felt like high school president election, with Jaden Smith,Tony Hawk and Kelly Slater backing campaigns. In the end, ordeal done with, Dane won. And then he beat Luke Davis in the finals. Balance restored, etc. And now, four days before the waiting period begins, it’s likely Dane’s wrist injury will keep him from firing at top speed. While surfing Macaronis in the Mentawais last week, Dane tried a heelside grab air, didn’t grease it and landed with his hand wedged between his leg and his #4.

Dane again took to social media to reveal that he has a spiral fracture on the metacarpal, and sprained TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex, a ligament group). He captioned with: “diagram of my injured hand for DGO global (though, Stab believes Dane means DJO Global, makers of sports braces). tryin to get a suitable brace so i can be see this is the time that we need to stay together and surf like there is know surf in trestles comp next week.”Not all hope is lost. John John surfed in a brace after returning from ankle injury, even noting that it made him feel safer. And, Dane’s message suggests that he has every intention to compete. It’s not entirely surprising that he’s prepared to grit his teeth through a coupla heats, though, considering his exhaustive levels of preparation (by Dane Reynolds standards) – when Stab asked Dane about his measure of confidence at Lowers, he said: “I’m gonna try my best. I’ve been trying to eat right and not drink. I mean, not train, but just not be a lazy fat-ass. Well, I was never lazy, but I just have a sweet tooth and like junk food n’ shit. So I’ve been trying to eat right and exercise and get back to, uh, athletic shape (laughs).” If Dane does withdraw, his spot will go to video trials runner-up, Luke Davis. Other change-ups include Pat Gudauskas, Yadin Nicol and (real life trials runner-up) Ian Crane filling spots that injured Owen. 18 18
