THE SITUATION “Origin” Coal Seam Gas mine in Surat Basin QLD

BRIEF: Roma is a small country town in rural QLD. It is currently dwarfed by an adjoining corporate mining industry. There are three strands of individuals who inhabit the town in a co-existant state. one, The Roma community at large, second the Fly-In-Fly-Out mining community and thirdly specialists required to allow the mining community to run smoothly. There becomes an intersection between these three parties at an educational level. The roma community can benefit from a stronger educational facility to take on jobs that they are currently being overlooked, outsourced or not trained for. The aim is to join the mining industries’ utilised and unutilised work modes with the roma community under the pretence of education. Educational Facilities in rural areas are generally neglected compared with those in more densely populated areas due to funding. Because of this the students wishing to gain a university level of training are forced to go interstate or learn via correspondance. Those who train under a correspondance method are restricted in their means and interaction with tutors, lecturers, other students, aswell as other traditional methods of learning adopted in a university environment. The resulting building will allow for training of these students without disadvantaging them whilst engaging the wider community by programatic and locale based predictions.

Peak mining boom with peak population expectancies. Population should increase with the boom.
