New Year, New Beginnings by Melissa Henderson

Have you heard that phrase, “New Year, New Beginnings?” Especially during the past year, when we looked forward to a time with no pandemic, thoughts may have popped into your mind around the beginning of December as you thought about what could happen in the new year. A faith-filled positive outlook can help us through tough times.

With “to do” lists and busy lives and dealing with a pandemic, we might look at the new year a bit differently this time. Perhaps you are a person who enjoys journaling and recording your thoughts, dreams, and hopes for the future.

Have you ever wondered what God was thinking when He created the world? A new beginning. Everything was new. Was each creation like an adventure for Him? Can you imagine God smiling as He created each plant, animal, and more?

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1: 1 (NIV)

Because we are not God, we can’t know the full emotions of God when He brought the world into being. We can only imagine with our human minds. I like to think of God smiling as each of His creations came into being. What wonder! What majesty! What glory!

In Scripture, we read how God created the world, and then He rested. When we try to create something, we are embarking on something new and often different from usual. There may be smiles and there may be signs of frustration.

God had a purpose for His creations. New beginnings all around. What a glorious time He must have had placing the bright sun, the full moon, numerous planets, vast bodies of water, the expansive land, and more in just the right places.

What things make you think of new beginnings? A rainbow? Clouds in the sky? A sunrise? A hummingbird drinking nectar from flowers while their wings rapidly move? A newborn baby? The list is endless for me.

When we create something unique, we have the opportunity to thank Him for giving us the ability to use the talents and gifts He has given us.

Let’s go on an adventure today. Let’s look for God’s glory in every moment. A new beginning. A new adventure. God is with us always.
