What I found at the Thrift Store by Pamela McCormick

My husband and I had been hiking at Deep Creek in Bryson City. On our drive back to the motel, I saw a thrift store on the left side of the road, and because I love thrift stores, I asked George to turn the car around. We had gone long past it, but he turned the car around and proceeded to take me to this place. I did not understand the draw this place had on me.

I opened the door and the song, “The Never Ending, Overwhelming Reckless Love of God” was playing. I had not felt like being close to God. I hadn’t heard Him answer any of my prayers, and I just was plain angry. Was He not listening?

It says in the Bible that Jesus will leave the 99 sheep to go find the one that is lost and bring it back to the fold. God knew where I was at. God met me where I was at. He was calling me back.

I found a lot of things at the thrift store that day. Nothing I saw compared with God calling this wounded soldier back to Himself.

“The believer cannot be removed from the supporting, comforting presence of his Almighty friend. No outward circumstances can separate him from his Lord.” Matthew Henry

“Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God. Oh, it chases me down, fights til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine. I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away. Oh the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.” From Reckless Love by Cory Asbury.

“If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.” ~Psalms 139:8 KJV

“Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.” ~Lamentations 3:23 NLT
