welcome

P U B L ISHE R ’S WE LCOM E

Good morning, and welcome to Crain’s Third Annual [M]Power Manufacturing Assembly Dear [M]POWER 2016 Attendees, Nineteen percent of regional employment. Forty percent of our regional GDP. Over 268,000 jobs. That’s what manufacturing means to Northeast Ohio. That’s why MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, the Cleveland Engineering Society (CES) and Crain’s Cleveland Business have partnered to create the region’s largest manufacturing event, the [M]POWER Manufacturing Assembly. On behalf of MAGNET, CES and Crain’s, thank you for taking the time to join us for this pivotal event in the history of our economy. October is Manufacturing Month in Ohio and we know our economy sits at a crossroads: Can Northeast Ohio lead the advanced manufacturing revolution that is sweeping the world? How will we address the workforce challenges facing manufacturers? How can we as a community unite behind our manufacturers, so they can compete and thrive on a global scale? As members of the Northeast Ohio manufacturing landscape, we understand the vital role our industry plays as a principal driver of our regional economy – and the importance of answering those questions. There is no question that Northeast Ohio’s future depends on leveraging our manufacturing legacy into developing innovative new products and processes that will make us known as an acknowledged center of advanced manufacturing throughout the world. That’s why we’re holding this year’s event in Akron, the heart of our region geographically and a true model of a city that has reinvented itself for the 21st century. That’s why MAGNET has adopted the tagline, “Inspiring the Manufacturing Renaissance” – because the organization works tirelessly to ensure that our manufacturers, our legislators, our academic institutions, and all the players are aligned around accelerating the growth of Ohio manufacturers. Thank you for being with us today at the 3rd annual [M]POWER Manufacturing Assembly. We hope the information you learn, the new connections you make, and the energy you feel in the room today will inspire you for many months to come. Are you ready? Northeast Ohio’s “Manufacturing Renaissance” starts today. 37541 Gyro-Aflac

Warm Regards, Elizabeth McIntyre | Publisher & Editor | Crain’s Cleveland Business Ethan Karp | President & CEO | MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network Michael J. Schipper, P.E. | Board President, CES & Deputy General Manager, Engineering & Project Management, GCRTA

Helping bring progress and promise to communities since 1866. 150 years ago, we opened our first branch. There were no debit cards or mobile apps. Heck, there wasn’t even electricity. All we had were our bankers, their pens and a promise. A promise that we’d help build the community. A promise to communicate honestly with our customers. And a promise to do the right thing. Keeping this promise has led to some extraordinary things over the last century and a half, but none greater than the privilege of helping transform the lives of people right in our own backyard.
