The Secret

One grey and stormy day I went for a stroll in the Surrey Hills. I felt the light drops of rain on my face and, just as I was looking for shelter, I came across a daunting looking house with a strange smell creating a pungent atmosphere. Slowly I tiptoed closer, and closer, across the dank ground to the gloomy house. I could see the rows of trees surrounding the house were so close together it was as dark as the nighttime. I saw a skinny black cat sit down right beside me, but it didn’t even glance at me. The house had jagged walls, a broken window and shattered roof tiles. A ray of sunlight broke through the trees. I looked behind myself but there was no shadow. I opened the door and went inside the creepy house, suddenly the door slammed behind me and it was pitch black again. I heard a woosh in front of me, but I couldn't see where the sound was coming from. Suddenly, I fell backwards and screamed! I realised I had fallen into a chair, so I calmed down.
The lights turned on and it took me a while to adjust to the dark when in the corner of the room I saw a cracked mirror, but I could see my reflection. All I could hear was the howl of the distant wind. There was a crackle upstairs. I thought something had moved. I walked cautiously up the broken stairs, but I couldn’t hear my footsteps. Strangely, I wasn’t thirsty even though I hadn't had water all day.
I felt so spooked that I was almost tempted to walk out, but I carried on walking through the house. All was silent apart from the sound of the wind blowing through the holes of the worn-down house. So far, I was petrified by all the tension. Suddenly I screamed out loud once again when I saw a ghost hover right in front of me. I was shocked with disbelief. All I could hear was the howling of the wind. The menacing atmosphere almost made me go mad as all I could think about was the thought of the ghost whirling and whirling around in my mind. Out of the blue I heard an eerie noise saying, “You are the ghost I am the human." and then the words were repeated even louder “YOU are the ghost I am the human.” With shock I took the glass of water the human had been carrying, through it over myself and the water passed through me and formed a puddle on the floor.
